first few Flare battles were ok XD insanity hadn't learnt Confuse Ray yet XD. PS if i phase a pokemon so it isn't on the battle anymore, does insanity still do his thing?

Eh, loophole abuse, but yeah, however, if the pokemon comes back out, or the pokemon who got whirlwinded in isn't confused next turn, Insanity comes in.

Ok XD just attempting to annoy shenanigans when grinding and getting Explorer's whirlwind stuff. Also what is the rule for Double battles?

Double battles...hmmm...well, one pokemon has to be confused each turn, since it would be impossible to confuse them all. Basically, you have to get the pokemon confused within 2 turns.
