  1. Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver - The Offical Competitive Discussion Thread

I have to agree, Bologo. I ran a Jolly set because of it's dismal speed, and it still has trouble getting the edge on Scarfers and the likes. I ran Brick Break, Waterfall, Crunch, and Focus Sash, but constantly found myself pinned down by priority moves and outright bulk. Perhaps with a Jolly...
  2. New and "creative" moveset/EV spread thread. Mk. 4

I've been using a pretty unique Gyarados lead for a few months. Thought I'd post it up here since there's nothing on it in the analysis as far as I know. Gyarados @ Leftovers Nature: Impish EVs: 252 HP / 24 Attack / 232 Defense Thunder Wave Taunt Substitute Waterfall At first, you see a huge...
  3. CAP 8 CAP 8 - Part 10a - Name Discussion

There have been a few that I really like, but I thought I'd just throw up my input. A lot of people's art shows the 'electric' feeling through positive/negative charge, much like a battery. Dragons are generally known in mythology for their destructive reign over the land. Battereign. I know...
  4. HGSS Megaspeculation Thread

I think half the reason Gold/Silver were so amazing is because it added so much to the series. When there was 151 Pokémon, adding another 100 felt like a ton more. Adding new types, a whole new area, a plethora of new features like shinies, breeding, berries, etc. I would love a remake, but I...
  5. CAP 8 CAP 8 - Art Submissions

I've been around Smogon forever lurking, and CAP since Syclant. This is my first time ever getting the motivation to try myself. Based on the concept of a Veiled Chameleon: (Lizards of all kinds to me have always seemed dragon-esque) I know it's a blurry shot, but it was done on lined paper...
  6. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

Bumping this up because I am still considering this team. It seems to synergize pretty nicely. Edit: Celebi is a welcome addition over Meganium, although I still dislike the Pursuit/4X Bug weakness that welcomes Heracross and Scizor, two really hard-hitters that force me out and take a hard hit.
  7. What was the hardest part of the metagame for you to understand?

Quoted for truth, because I honestly don't think I could say it any better. However, I do put less limitations on myself (mainly due to personal preference; I think Heatran's awesome looking). Still, things like Skarmory, Blissey, Cresselia, Salamence, etc. would never find a place on my teams...
  8. The Power of Poison!

They're just putting logical reasoning behind supporting the terrible types. Actually, in my opinion, Poison isn't that bad offensively. Compare it to Grass, for example. Sure, Grass hits 3 types for super effective (Water, Rock, Ground) but it also hits 7 for not very effective, and thus 7...
  9. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

I'll consider the changes for Mesprit. As of now my team has had no problem dealing with Tyranitar, but I will likely switch it for Reflect if I do find myself getting raped by them. I'll try it out. :) While Muk is a good switch-in to Zapdos, After a Curse or two Poison Jab isn't all that...
  10. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

...and provide support for the team with Leech Seed/Aromatherapy. If you're going to quote me, might as well quote all of it. xD Trust me, Tangrowth did not go unused. He has great defenses and walls Swampert and Gyarados to no end, but does not get Aromatherapy (or *cough* Heal Bell). While it...
  11. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

I'm not really the person who you would want to have critiquing your team. Still, please leave comments like "rate my team now" to PMs, and only post here if it's about this team (Sorry to be a jackass about it).
  12. OU Warstory: Good close match between two competent battlers

Great game, and great team. I like your Charizard, but of course, I dearly hope that Starmie has Rapid Spin. All in all, it was well worth the read in my opinion. : )
  13. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

Heh, I completely forgot about Heal Bell. Go figure. How's this for a similar Celebi over Meganium?: Celebi @ Leftovers Nature: Bold Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe Grass Knot Leech Seed Heal Bell Recover Team is in need of something that can take care of Swampert if...
  14. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

Celebi doesn't get Aromatherapy, which is an important purpose for Meganium. If Heatran or Gallade became Paralyzed, the team is severely limited in sweepability.
  15. First RMT: A mix of tiers in one

Background Information: I wanted to make a new team with the Platinum releases, but not too devoted to countering the new threats. I attempted to make a team that synergized well, and it won 9 out of 10 games when I just started testing (the loss due to stupid prediction to a BP team). I also...
  16. Ask a simple question, get a simple answer - mark 15

Is it possible to use the Union Room / Local battles to have your own guys set to level 50 / 100 for IV checking purposes? I have a WPA2 code on my computer and can't get my DS to connect using the USB connector, so Wi-Fi is out of the question for now.
  17. New and "creative" moveset/EV spread thread "Mark 2"

I've always loved this Meganium set, although it's not 100% recreated, it's somewhat different from the (only) set in the analysis. Stall / Support Meganium Meganium @ Big Root Ability: Overgrow Nature: Bold EVs: 216 HP / 148 Defense / 144 Sp. Attack Giga Drain Aromatherapy Leech Seed Reflect...
  18. What style of play do you use?

My teams generally seem to be Balanced / Defense-Oriented. One of my most successful teams before Platinum that I used in OU was Hitmonchan / Mesprit / Meganium / Banette / Porygon2 / Hitmontop (I have yet to try it with the Platinum changes). Through just watching other people's playstyles...
  19. New and "creative" moveset/EV spread thread "Mark 2"

A couple days ago I was swept by a Bulk Up Gallade that I couldn't touch, so I attempted to make one that would work similarly. It's similar to Chaos Blade's, so I thought I'd post it: Gallade @ Leftovers / Salac Berry / Lum Berry Nature: Careful EVs: 252 HP / 200 Defense / 56 Sp. Defense Bulk...
  20. Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Can Magnet Rise be Baton Passed? Jolteon switching in on Gyarados can Sub on the switch out, Magnet Rise, then pass to Heatran.
