  1. DuskMod: A major modification to the standard metagame

I'd like to solicit opinions on EVing Hitmonchan. While less intimidating than Hitmonlee, 'chan has better coverage and survivability. Of course setting up a physical attacker that isn't immune to burn requires some team support such as a cleric like Bronzong, or something like Heatran. The EVs...
  2. Pet mods and fragmentation

That's because, while some are underpopulated, the things in that list aren't even mods. GenNEXT and DuskMod have even more posts. They are still pet mods. Joim presents: Joimmons--a Joim project hosted on Joim's Lab is not going to stop being a pet mod by hitting page three in it's thread. It...
  3. Versatility & Efficiency

Well, it would be more efficient than OU's progress, as they've been at it for what, a couple years now, yet they keep making bans. It's hard to solve the complex puzzle of metagame balance. It's harder to solve it with only a hammer at your disposal.
  4. Pet mods and fragmentation

Very apt. By the same logic, any format that had mechanic changes (changes other than bans) in the past would also be a mod, so finalized mods would still constitute mods.

  6. Pet mods and fragmentation

It's a palimino! Indeed, there's nothing quite like the experience of trying a new meta--not just new personally, but new absolutely. A complete unknown. For many people, that is the chief promise offered by mods. For myself... I abandoned OU because I saw my problems with it would never...
  7. Pet mods and fragmentation

On the contrary. Of course things can become more popular than they are. What I am saying is the concepts put forward in any particular mod are almost certainly present in any other mod, or could be added to an existing one. Therefore, a new mod becomes uninteresting because A: it would be a...
  8. Pet mods and fragmentation

I have more experience with DuskMod than others, so I'll speak to that and hope that this is transferable. I have gotten into more metas that I have some knowledge of by observing games than I have making clueless teams. Once, I made an absurdly ambitious attempt to make analyses for modded...
  9. Would anyone be interested in a 12 vs 12 metagame?

Am I the only one that thinks stall might be helped more than offense? Since we're all slinging theorymon let me hit you with this: 1v1 is the worst for stall. It is pure offense. 3v3 is also quite bad for stall. Stall is better in 6v6. Extending the trend, stall would be better the more...
  10. Joimmons [OM no longer in development]

Posting my feelings on this in another thread, since they are not necessarily specific about Joimmons. http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3480511 I have specific things to say about Joimmons, I suppose. I don't feel this is a very compelling "mission statement." I have seen a lot...
  11. Pet mods and fragmentation

Heads up, wall of text that may be harsh. Just today, a new pet mod was introduced. http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3480501 Perhaps this is par for the course in Other Metagames. Perhaps you take what you can get when you leave behind the behemoth of standard OU. But I can't help...
  12. DuskMod: A major modification to the standard metagame

Haven't played in a while, but have been poking at my BST formula periodically and I think it's in a pretty good form now. Physical bulk is the square root of the product of uninvested HP and uninvested Def, similarly for special bulk. Attack is the higher uninvested attacking stat multiplied by...
  13. Sketchmons (NOW PLAYABLE on PS)

Nice thinking, also focus sash Shell Smash gets 260 Base power and 759 SpA with a Speed beyond any scarfers. A bulkier Quiver Dance with Reflect support could definitely get multiple boosts. Spore would be on every team. Spore Sableye could be quite nasty. The OP refers to Dragon Dance...
  14. DuskMod: A major modification to the standard metagame

Pretty sure Crobat, Aerodactyl, Scyther, Gengar, Durant, the Musketeers (minus Viriz maybe), Sawk, Primeape, Archeops, and Leavany aren't OHKO'd by unboosted Xspeed. Now at +2 it's a different matter, but my point wasn't that the best way to handle ChloroSawsbuck was more speed, just pointing...
  15. DuskMod: A major modification to the standard metagame

Mmm, well it's difficult to comment on. Centralization, frankly, is probably inevitable on a statistical level because of the small number of people and therefore teams. I've made teams and had success with and without one of those five pokemon, and they aren't the first five I would list as...

  17. DuskMod: A major modification to the standard metagame

An ability like Drought can't be considered secondary to flavor. Getting more recovery needs a more compelling reason than because it's a fox. It would only serve to slightly increase the importance of weather.
  18. No Hax/Luck Metagame Concept

As for WIFOM, that is completely different. It seems to be the fad to suggest prediction is no better than guessing. If that's the case you must explain why there are Rock Paper Scissors championships and not "Coin Flip" championships. Predicting the subtle patterns of an opponent is so...
  19. No Hax/Luck Metagame Concept

It doesn't even out if risk management causes the more skilled player to win one extra time against a weaker player and hax causes them to lose ten extra times. Those numbers are just an illustration, but it's impossible for it to fully "even out" no matter how few games the weaker player wins...
  20. Simple Questions & Simple Answers & General Resources (OU Edition) MK II

Mmm, thanks for trying. I agree it is an oversimplification, I am just trying to produce slightly less of an oversimplification than BST, which would call 200 base attack equivalent to 100 attack and 100 special attack. I will just have to make my best guess.
