Fossils are tied for the most powerful items for Fling other than Iron Ball, so they could use that to avoid the speed drop. Still an odd choice on Sceptile, though a little less crazy than it sounds otherwise.

Has anyone considered Own Tempo Avalugg as a counter to this kind of thing?

Leaf Blade and Quick Attack are retained as egg moves (both from Leafeon, in this case).

Ice Shard is retained as an egg move; I used Mamoswine. This also disproves Icicle Crash, Earthquake, and Rock Slide as potential egg moves.

Power Whip is retained as an egg move; I used Ferrothorn. This also disproves Curse, Pin Missile, and Gyro Ball.

Weather Ball is retained as an egg move; I used Roserade. (This also disproves Mega Drain, Growth, and Stun Spore, unsurprisingly.)

I can confirm Spearow retains Tri Attack as an egg move from Dodrio.
