Copyediting Articuno (1v1) [QC 1/2] [GP 0/1]

[OVERVIEW]

Reaching one of the highest Special stat in the game along with the most powerful move, Articuno is a decent offensive threat. Articuno's bulk helps it against physical attackers like Tauros and Snorlax, and some special attackers like Chansey, letting it to spam its Ice-type moves, increasing the chances of freezing the opponent and ending the game. Thanks to its Ice-typing Articuno is immune to freeze, and that combined with its solid bulk and great power allows it to matchup well into a lot of the bulkier metagame. However, Articuno's movepool is very limited, with only Ice- and Normal-type moves to choose from, leaving it unable to deal with foes that resist its STAB Ice-type moves.

Blizzard is Articuno's main STAB attack capable of threatening foes weak to it like Rhydon, and dealing good amount of damage to neutral targets like Tauros. Ice Beam is a weaker alternative than Blizzard, but it is viable thanks to its PP and better accuracy, letting Articuno fish for a freeze against bulky targets like Chansey. Reflect is useful against targets like physical Snorlax, and it's one of the few solid moves that is included in Articuno's movepool. Rest keeps Articuno healthy against bulky Pokemon that Articuno gets a good matchup like Chansey and Snorlax without Thunderbolt, giving it also more chances to fish for a freeze.

Articuno needs to be paired with Pokemon such as Snorlax and Tauros that can handle foes unbothered by Articuno's Ice-type attacks such as Jynx, Slowbro, and Lapras. Rhydon is a good option as it can take on troublesome Electric-type foes such as Zapdos and Jolteon. Jolteon is another solid option, being a teammate that is able to threaten bulky Water-type Pokemon such as Lapras and Starmie. Jolteon can also handle Zapdos for Articuno well. Alakazam is a really solid option as well for partner, being able to handle Starmie, Lapras, Jolteon, Jynx, and Chansey with Thunderbolt.

Articuno's movepool isn't great, and it is usually limited to the four listed moves. Hyper Beam is the only move that is worth using as an alternative, but it's only useful against only one foe, being Jynx, which is frail to physical attacks and resists Articuno's Ice STAB moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Amnesia**: Snorlax and Slowbro can set Amnesia up, tank a few hits from Articuno, and eventually 2HKO Articuno at +6. However, they have to be weary of getting frozen.

**Electric moves**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Jolteon and Zapdos, and Pokemon with strong electric coverage like Starmie and Gengar hit Articuno really hard and can tank a Blizzard.

**Ice-types**: Lapras and Jynx don't take much damage from Articuno and they are able to hit it hard in return. Thanks to their Ice-typing, they are immune to freeze, so Articuno really struggles against them.

**Slowbro**: Slowbro can set Amnesia up, take Ice Beams and Blizzard, and 2HKO Articuno at +6. However, Slowbro has to be weary of getting frozen.

[OVERVIEW]

Articuno's access to the most powerful unboosted special attack in this generation in Blizzard makes it a decent offensive threat. This, combined with its incredible Special stat, gives Articuno a decent niche in the metagame. Articuno's bulk and access to Rest allows it to take some hits from foes like Chansey Rest isn't really a special trait, try to mention how it is very bulky on both sides, so it can take on physical attackers like Tauros and Snorlax, and some special attackers like Chansey., and spam its Ice-type moves, increasing the chances of freezing the opponent and ending the game. However, Articuno's movepool is very limited, with only Ice- and Normal-type moves to choose from, leaving it unable to deal with common foes such as Starmie. Mention how Articuno's Ice-typing makes it immune to freeze, and that combined with its solid bulk and great power allows it to matchup well into a lot of the bulkier metagame. Also when talking about its power, talk about its high Special stat first, since that combined with Blizzard's high power is what gives Articuno the strongest unboosted special attack in the game.

Blizzard is Articuno's main STAB attack, and the strongest special attack in the generation, this was already mentioned in the overview capable of threatening foes weak to it like Exeggutor and Rhydon, and dealing good amount of damage to common targets like Tauros. It is optimal to use Ice Beam against Exeggutor, as they both 2HKO it. I would mention that Blizzard is good into Rhydon and neutral targets like Tauros and Snorlax (also with Tauros make sure to mention that you use Ice Beam into Blizzard) Ice Beam is a weaker alternative than Blizzard, but it is viable thanks to its PP and better accuracy, letting Articuno fish for a freeze against bulky targets like Chansey. Reflect is necessary as a move option, allowing Articuno to take on physical Snorlax and Tauros, making them rely on critical hits Reflect isn't useful against Tauros, and its not like super necessary, though it is very useful since Articuno doesn't have many options. Its really only useful against Tboltless Lax. Paralysis can be devastating in this tier, so Rest is crucial as last move for Articuno, allowing it to make more use of its decent bulk, and it works really well with Reflect. Rest is not necessarily for Paralysis, its mainly just to keep Articuno healthy against bulky Pokemon that Articuno prays on like Tboltless Chansey and Lax. It gives you many more chances to fish for a freeze against them.

Also mention that Jolteon can handle Zapdos for Articuno as well. It is also worth mentioning Alakazam, who can handle Starmie, Lapras, Jolteon, Jynx, and Tbolt Chansey.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Jynx**: Jynx is probably the worst matchup for Articuno, as it is able to take any hit from it and spam Psychic.

**Amnesia Snorlax**: This is a threat that Articuno has to rely on getting an early freeze. If Snorlax manages to set Amnesia up, then Thunderbolt becomes very threatening.

**Fellow Birds**: Both Zapdos and Moltres beat Articuno in 1v1. They are faster and both of them use STAB moves that deal super-effective damage to Articuno.

**Water-types**: Common Water-type Pokemon like Starmie, Slowbro, and Lapras have no problem taking on Articuno's attacks while also being able to hit it right back with their respective attacks such as Psychic and Thunderbolt.

**Electric-types**: Jolteon and Raichu hit Articuno with Thunderbolt and can afford to tank a Blizzard.

Try to group these differently. Pokemon with Electric moves (both Electric-types like Jolteon and Zapdos and Pokemon with strong electric coverage like Tbolt Amnesia Lax, Chansey, and Starmie), opposing Ice types (Jynx, Lapras) since they are immune to freeze and don't take much damage from Articuno while hitting hard in return, and Slowbro, who can Amnesia up, take Ice Beams, and 2HKO Articuno at +6, though it does have to be weary of getting frozen.

Let me know when you implement these changes, and I'll take another look.

Articuno's movepool isn't great, and it is usually limited to the four listed moves. Hyper Beam is the only move that is worth using as an alternative, allowing Articuno to Jynx, that is frail to physical attacks and resists Articuno's Ice-type moves. Reword this a little bit. Hyper Beam is really only useful for one mon, being Jynx, for the reasons you listed. The wording is just very off.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Amnesia Snorlax**: This is a threat that Articuno has to rely on getting an early freeze. If Snorlax manages to set Amnesia up, then Thunderbolt becomes very threatening. This and Slowbro can be combined into an Amnesia section, since both Pokemon have a very similar Articuno matchup (boost with Amnesia, 2HKO, hope for no freeze)

**Fellow Birds**: Both Zapdos and Moltres beat Articuno in 1v1. They are faster and both of them use STAB moves that deal super-effective damage to Articuno. Remove this and add Zapdos to the Electric moves section. Moltres is not common enough to be mentioned here.

**Electric moves**: Electric-type Pokemon such as Jolteon, and Pokemon with strong electric coverage like Starmie and Gengar hit Articuno really hard and can tank a Blizzard.

Once this is implemented, GC 1/2
