Chatot (QC 1/3)

he dropped on his profile -zard

[OVERVIEW]

  • Its main niche is as a Choice Scarf user that can clean offense with a powerful, STAB Boomburst that at least 2HKOes nonresisted offensive Pokemon while also being able to provide momentum with U-Turn.
  • Its speed tier is decent for a scarfer, allowing it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame.
  • However, its bulk is terrible, and it can be 1HKO'd by many offensive Pokémon (like Lycanroc, Oricorio-G, and Pyroar), especially if rocks are up, meaning if it doesn't kill the target it will likely die in return.
  • It lacks a powerful Flying STAB, preventing it from making the most out of its secondary type.
  • While it has a decent Speed tier, it still falls short of outspeeding key threats such as Choice Scarf Primeape and +1 Speed Jynx.
  • Despite being a Choice Scarf user, it is unreliable at checking setup sweepers that it outspeeds such as Lilligant and Carracosta.
  • Faces competition from other Normal type breakers like Drampa and Pyroar, which have more bulk, better secondary STABs, and more speed in the case of the latter.
  • It struggles to break through bulky Rock and Steel types, as well as special walls like Lanturn and Miltank.
  • Incredibly vulnerable to priority due to its poor bulk, Lycanroc's Accelerock and Abomasnow's Ice Shard being notable examples.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Boomburst is its most spamable move, at least 2HKOing offensive Pokémon that don't resist it, such as Pyroar, Floatzel, and Lilligant.
  • Chatter is its secondary STAB that deals decent damage to Ghost types like Oricorio-G and Gourgeist that are immune to Boomburst. The guaranteed confusion can annoy enemies as well, such as giving +1 Speed Lilligant a chance to hurt itself.
  • Hidden Power Fighting is its preferred coverage to hit Rock and Steel types super effectively, OHKOing Aggron and 2HKOing Lycanroc.
  • Heat Wave is an alternative option to deal more damage to Steel types, Ferroseed in particular as it can easily wear Chatot down with chip damage as it tries to U-Turn. However, you will be unable to do much of anything to Rock types, forcing you to click U-Turn against them.
  • U-Turn allows Chatot to provide its team momentum and pivot out of bad matchups, such as against bulky Pokémon like Regirock and Lanturn.

Set Details
========

  • Max Speed and Special Attack EVs to make it strong and fast as possible.
  • Choice Scarf allows it to perform well against offensive teams.
  • Timid nature to outspeed +1 Lilligant as well as every scarfer below its speed tier.
  • Alternatively, Modest can be used as you still outspeed the unboosted tier (aside from the niche Ninjask and Electrode) as well as max Speed Carracosta at +2. It achieves notable KOs, such as Skuntank after rocks and a good chance to 1HKO Pyroar. However, you lose to a few max Speed scarfers (most notably Mesprit and Passimian) as well as +1 Lilligant
  • All of its abilities are really situational and have little use. Tangled Feet can help it slightly if it somehow gets confused, but still not very useful.

Usage Tips
========

  • This set should be used late-game to clean weakened teams.
  • Early-game it should usually be clicking U-turn because of bulky walls and Ghost types. Though, it can be used to pick off a weakened threat if necessary, such as a Nasty Plot Alolan Raichu.
  • Make sure all Normal resists/immunities are gone before attempting to sweep.
  • Aside from Boomburst, its moves are rather weak, so only use its other moves on Normal resists/immunities as Boomburst would usually be stronger.
  • Fishing for Confusion with Chatter is an unreliable strategy, as it is only a 1 in 3 chance to gain a free turn, as well as Chatot's bulk being so poor.
  • Switch it in safely, through VoltTurn or after a Pokémon is KOed, as even a tiny amount of chip damage can turn 2HKOes against Chatot to OHKOes.
  • If Chatot can't OHKO the enemy it's facing, it should use U-turn, as even decently powerful neutral hits such as Pyroar's Fire Blast and Oricorio-G's Hurricane can be fatal against it.

Team Options
========

  • It is not a reliable check to certain setup sweepers like Jynx and Carracosta, so secondary answers are needed. Gastrodon walls most Carracosta variants, while Life Orb Hitmonchan with Bullet Punch is a reliable Jynx answer.
  • Hazard removal is important, as after rock damage Chatot has a chance to be OHKOed by things like Skuntank's Sucker Punch. Skuntank and Hitmonchan are good hazard removers.
  • Pursuit trappers like Skuntank and Absol can trap and remove problematic Ghost-types like Oricorio-G.
  • Hazard setters like Qwilfish and Ferroseed can help Chatot secure important KOes such as against Skuntank. The latter also checks Rock-types such as Archeops and Lycanroc.
  • Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, and Primape can break through Rock- and Steel-types such as Regirock and Ferroseed as well as checking Abomasnow.
  • Slow VoltTurn pivots like Mesprit and Lanturn to give it free switches.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Toxic cripples walls such as Regirock and specially defensive Carracosta, although being locked into it can be a momentum drain
  • HP Grass to revenge kill Carracosta. However, boosted Aqua Jet variants OHKO you so why bother. Also, you lose coverage against Steel types.
  • Choice Specs is pressured very easily in a meta filled with Archeops, and still cannot reliably break Rock-types and other Specially Defensive walls such as Type Null.
  • Substitute and Nasty Plot, but you safely set up against virtually nothing and generally outclassed by Oricorio-G
  • Ominous Wind 2HKOes Oricorio-G, a major threat to Chatot on offense, but otherwise accomplishes little.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-types**: Chatot simply lacks a reliable way to deal with these. Regirock is not even 4HKOed by Modest Chatot, and specially defensive Carracosta or Cradily also easily wall Chatot. Lycanroc is at least 2HKOed by HP Fighting, but Accelerock forces Chatot out. Although Boomburst is powerful enough to put Archeops in Defeatest range, Stone Edge still OHKOes Chatot after the Defeatest drop.

**Ghost-types**: Oricorio-G and Golurk are not 2HKOed by Chatter and can 1HKO with Hurricane and Ice Punch, respectively. The former can set up a Substitute on a choicelocked Chatot, while the latter can set up Stealth Rock reliably against Chatot. Ghost types are especially problematic since it leaves Chatot easily punished if it uses its best move, forcing it to click U-turn until said threats are removed.

**Ice-types**: Abomasnow's Ice Shard forces Chatot out, and Jynx has no issues with it after a Z-Lovely Kiss.

**Priority**: Its poor bulk means even neutral priority can be dangerous. Hitmonchan's Mach Punch and Skuntank's Sucker Punch both 2HKO it and a +2 Aqua Jet from Carracosta will OHKO it. Kangaskhan's Fake Out into Sucker Punch is a KO against Chatot after Stealth Rock.

**Faster Choice Scarf users**: Scarfers like Primeape, Pyroar, and Manectric all outspeed and OHKO Chatot with Stone Edge, Fire Blast, and Volt Switch, respectively.

**Special Defense Walls**: Chatot struggles to break through walls like Type: Null, Audino, and Lanturn. Type Null can safely set up on it, Audino can safely Wish pass, and Lanturn threatens it with Volt Switch, though the latter lacks reliable recovery and can only switch in on Boomburst once unless it has an Assault Vest.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Its main niche is as a Choice Scarf user that can clean offense with a powerful, STAB Boomburst while also being able to provide momentum with U-Turn
  • Its speed tier is decent for a scarfer, letting it outspeed +1 Lilligant and +2 Carracosta. (Carracosta isnt a good mention because +2 Aqua Jet can kill after rocks and Chatot cant do much back if it isnt running hp fighting)
  • However, its bulk is terrible, and it can be 1HKO'd by many offensive Pokémon (like? stuff like lycanroc on offense is notable), especially if rocks are up, meaning if it doesn't kill the target it will likely die in return. (give an example)
  • It lacks a powerful Flying STAB, preventing it from making the most out of its secondary type.
  • While it has a decent Speed tier, it still falls short of outspeeding key threats such as Choice Scarf Primeape and +1 Speed Jynx.
  • Despite being a Choice Scarf user, it is unreliable at checking setup sweepers such as Lilligant and Carracosta. (Yeah, so why did you mention outspeeding liligant/ costa as a postive? add different examples please)
  • Faces competition from other Normal type breakers like Drampa and Pyroar, which have more bulk, better secondary STABs, and more speed in the case of the latter.
  • (boomburst struggles to break special walls like lanturn/miltank. also maybe something about boomburst isnt as spammable this gen because oriocrio-G usage)
  • (its terrible bulk leaves it weak to common priority such as kang's fake out, lycanroc's accelrock etc)

Moves

  • Boomburst is its most spamable move, at least 2HKOing offensive Pokémon that don't resist it. (you really need examples because boom burst is def not spamable this gen)
  • Chatter is its secondary STAB that deals decent damage to Ghost types like Oricorio-G and Gourgeist-XL(that are immune to Boomburst.)The guaranteed confusion can annoy enemies as well. (this is too vague i feel. mention an example when the confusion can be annoying. chatter can disrupt and potentially make a +1 speed liligant hurt itself)
  • Hidden Power Fighting is its preferred coverage to hit Rock and Steel types super effectively, 1HKOing OHKOing Aggron and 2HKOing Lycanroc and -1 Carracosta. (costa is never really at -1 so remove that)
  • Heat Wave is an alternative option to deal more damage to Steel types, Ferroseed in particular as it can easily wear Chatot down with chip damage as it tries to U-Turn.
  • U-Turn allows Chatot to provide its team momentum and pivot out of bad matchups (against bulky pokemon like lanturn/ audino)

Set Details
========

  • Max Speed and Special Attack EVs to make it strong and fast as possible.
  • Choice Scarf allows it to perform well against offensive teams, as well as providing its team momentum. (a choice scarf does not provide a team with momentum lol. U-turn does.)
  • Timid nature to outspeed the entire unboosted tier as well as +1 Lilligant.
  • Alternatively, Modest can be used as you still outspeed the unboosted tier (save for Ninjask and Electrode) (<- What do you mean by "save for"?) as well as max Speed Carracosta at +2. It achieves notable KOs, such as Skuntank after rocks and a good chance to 1HKO Pyroar.
  • All of its abilities are really situational and have little use. Tangled Feet can help it slightly if it somehow gets confused, but still not very useful.

Usage Tips
========

  • This set should be used late-game to clean weakened teams.
  • Early-game it should usually be clicking U-turn. (why should it be clicking u-turn? you need to add the detail maybe say because of bulky walls/ ghost types) Though, it can be used to pick off a weakened threat if necessary. (like?)
  • Make sure all Normal resists/immunities are gone before attempting to sweep. (mention some normal resist ex: regirock, oricorio-g)
  • Aside from Boomburst, its moves are rather weak, so only use Chatter/HP Fighting/Heat Wave on Normal resists/immunities. (what?? this lacks so much detail that it could be said for any normal resist. if the normal resist is regirock are you going to heatwave?? make it clear please)
  • Fishing for Confusion with Chatter is an unreliable strategy, as it is only a 1 in 3 chance to gain a free turn, as well as Chatot's bulk being so poor.
  • Switch it in safely, through VoltTurn or after a Pokémon is KOed, as even a tiny amount of chip damage can turn 2HKOes against Chatot

  • Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan, Gurdurr, and Primape can break through Rock- and Steel-types such as Regirock and Ferroseed as well as checking Abomasnow.
  • Sticky Web support from Leavanny or Masquerain can slow down Choice Scarf Primeape, allowing Chatot to OHKO it, as well as preventing Jynx from getting to +1. It also lets Chatot more comfortably run a Modest nature.
  • (mention some pivots that form volturn cores such as lanturn or mesprit)
  • (you have a bunch of support but you never mention what chatot can do for its teammates)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Toxic cripples walls such as Regirock and specially defensive Carracosta. (mention drawbacks)
  • HP Grass to revenge kill Carracosta. However, boosted Aqua Jet variants OHKO you so why bother. (also trading coverage isnt worth it)
  • Choice Specs is pressured very easily in a meta filled with Archeops, and still cannot reliably break Rock-types. (??? rock types is so weird to say. I think you should mention that it cant reliably break specially defensive mons like clefairy/audino/lanturn/typenull)
  • Substitute and Nasty Plot, but you safely set up against virtually nothing and generally outclassed by Oricorio-G
  • Ominous Wind does slightly more damage to Ghost types such as Oricorio-G. (this is terrible and i would remove it especially since you didnt bother mentioning drawbacks)

**Rock-types**: Chatot simply lacks a reliable way to deal with these. Regirock is not even 4HKOed by Modest Chatot, and you're not doing much to specially defensive Carracosta or Cradily either. Lycanroc is at least 2HKOed by HP Fighting, but Accelerock forces Chatot out. (this section does not get written up so i think you should put in a little more effort)

**Ice-types**: Abomasnow's Ice Shard forces Chatot out, and it just loses to Jynx after a Z-Lovely Kiss. (same thing with this its too short. maybe mention that icetypes have to come in on rocks or something)

**Ghost-types**: Oricorio-G and Golurk are not 2HKOed by Chatter and can 1HKO with Hurricane and Ice Punch, respectively. (they can also setup on chatot with moves such as sub/ rocks)

**Priority**: Its poor bulk means even neutral priority can be dangerous. Hitmonchan's Mach Punch and Skuntank's Sucker Punch both 2HKO it and a +2 Aqua Jet from Carracosta will OHKO it. (kangashkan's fake out is worth a mention)

**Specially defensive Pokemon** (Lanturn, type:null, audino etc)

**Stealth Rocks**

**Faster Scarfers**: Scarfers like Primeape, Pyroar, and Manectric all outspeed and OHKO Chatot. (expand. this is minimal effort)
am check. this analysis lacks a lot of detail but implement what you want

  • Its speed tier is decent for a scarfer, allowing it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame.

Checks and Counters
=================== this isnt really written up in "proper analysis language" or w/e, not an actual problem until 2/3 but still u could work on it now (if u dont know what i mean, informal bits like "you're not doing much to" or "it just loses to" arent rly the standard)

Although Boomburst is powerful enough to put Archeops in Defeatest range, Stone Edge still OHKOes Chatot after the Defeatest drop.

**Ice-types**: Abomasnow's Ice Shard forces Chatot out, and it just loses to Jynx after a Z-Lovely Kiss.

**Ghost-types**: Oricorio-G and Golurk are not 2HKOed by Chatter and can 1HKO with Hurricane and Ice Punch, respectively. The former can set up a Substitute on a choicelocked Chatot, while the latter can set up Stealth Rock reliably against Chatot. also they make clicking any move with chatot instantly a big guessing game because ur only decent one might be worthless. also move this section above ice types, they're worse for chatot

**Faster Scarfers Choice Scarf Users, not scarfers**: Scarfers like Primeape, Pyroar, and Manectric all outspeed and OHKO Chatot with Stone Edge, Fire Blast, and Volt Switch, respectively.

===================

I'd still mention Steel-types since you have to predict w heatwave / hp fight

  • Faces competition from other Normal-type breakers like Drampa and Pyroar, which have more bulk, better secondary STABs, and more speed in the case of the latter.
  • It struggles to break through bulky Rock- and Steel-types, as well as special walls like Lanturn and Miltank.
  • Incredibly vulnerable to priority due to its poor bulk, Lycanroc's Accelerock and Abomasnow's Ice Shard being notable examples.
solid overview overall. just emphasise how it hates being locked into its coverage because of how weak both hidden power fighting and chatter can be.

Moves
========

  • Boomburst is its most spamable move, at least 2HKOing offensive Pokémon that don't resist it, such as Pyroar, Floatzel, and Lilligant.
  • Chatter is its secondary STAB that deals decent damage to Ghost-types like Oricorio-G and Gourgeist (i'd specify xl, as that's the most common version in our meta) that are immune to Boomburst. The guaranteed confusion can annoy enemies as well, such as giving +1 Speed Lilligant a chance to hurt itself.
  • Hidden Power Fighting is its preferred coverage to hit Rock- and Steel-types super effectively, OHKOing Aggron and 2HKOing Lycanroc. (lycanroc isn't something i'd mention, just because of how weak you are to accelerock. maybe another rock-type instead?)
  • Heat Wave is an alternative option to deal more damage to Steel-types, Ferroseed in particular as it can easily wear Chatot down with chip damage as it tries to U-Turn. However, you will be unable to do much of anything to Rock-types, forcing you to click U-Turn against them.
  • U-Turn allows Chatot to provide its team momentum and pivot out of bad matchups, such as against bulky Pokémon like Regirock and Lanturn.

Set Details
========

  • Max Speed and Special Attack EVs to make it strong and fast as possible.
  • Choice Scarf allows it to perform well against offensive teams.
  • Timid nature to outspeed +1 Lilligant as well as every scarfer below its speed tier. (combine all three into one bullet point)
  • Alternatively, Modest can be used as you still outspeed the unboosted tier (aside from the niche Ninjask and Electrode) as well as max Speed Carracosta at +2 (pretty sure carracosta ohkos you with a +2 life orb aqua jet). It achieves notable KOs, such as Skuntank after rocks and a good chance to 1HKO Pyroar. However, you lose to a few max Speed scarfers (most notably Mesprit and Passimian) (passimian doesn't run choice scarf, so mention something else) as well as +1 Lilligant
  • All of its abilities are really situational and have little use. Tangled Feet can help it slightly if it somehow gets confused, but still not very useful.

Usage Tips
========

  • This set should be used late-game to clean weakened teams. (it can also be used earlier if the opponent has a more offensive team, due to how powerful boomburst is)
  • Early-game it should usually be clicking U-turn because of bulky walls and Ghost types.
(basically it doesn't want to be locked into a weak move)
  • Fishing for Confusion with Chatter is an unreliable strategy, as it is only a 1 in 3 chance to gain a free turn, as well as Chatot's bulk being so poor. (also mention that a normal boomburst is stronger than a super effective chatter, so only use it if the opponent is immune)
  • Switch it in safely, through VoltTurn or after a Pokémon is KOed, as even a tiny amount of chip damage can turn 2HKOes against Chatot to OHKOes. (specifically mention slow volt turn here, as it cannot get in safely via something like a pivoting primeape for example)
  • If Chatot can't OHKO the enemy it's facing, it should use U-turn, as even decently powerful neutral hits such as Pyroar's Fire Blast and Oricorio-G's Hurricane can be fatal against it.

Team Options
========

  • It is not a reliable check to certain setup sweepers like Jynx and Carracosta, so secondary answers are needed. Gastrodon walls most Carracosta variants, while Life Orb Hitmonchan with Bullet Punch (no, you will never use bullet punch hitmonchan. life orb mach punch ohko's after rocks anyways) is a reliable Jynx answer. (it's a check at best, jynx doesn't really have reliable answers)
  • Hazard removal is important, as after Stealth Rock damage Chatot has a chance to be OHKOed by things like Skuntank's Sucker Punch. Skuntank and Hitmonchan are good hazard removers. (you already mention hitmonchan earlier, don't repeat) (merge this point with the below point so you avoid repeating it) (also talk about how chatot is helping these pokemon please)
  • Pursuit trappers like Skuntank and Absol can trap and remove problematic Ghost-types like Oricorio-G. (main issue here is, neither are good at removing oricorio-g because of substitute + z hurricane, so you maybe should use a better example)
  • Hazard setters like Qwilfish and Ferroseed can help Chatot secure important KOes such as against Skuntank. The latter also checks Rock-types such as Archeops and Lycanroc.
  • Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan (already mentioned earlier), Gurdurr, and Primape can break through Rock- and Steel-types such as Regirock and Ferroseed as well as checking Abomasnow.
  • Slow VoltTurn pivots like Mesprit and Lanturn to give it free switches. (definitely elaborate on how they help, because they do way more than just slow pivot)
you need to talk about what chatot does to help these teammates please

Other Options
=============

  • Toxic cripples walls such as Regirock and specially defensive Carracosta (carracosta is never a specially defensive set), although being locked into it can be a momentum drain
  • HP Grass to revenge kill Carracosta. However, boosted Aqua Jet variants OHKO you so why bother (too casual here) (also say +2 offensive variants not aqua jet variants). Also, you lose coverage against Steel-types.
  • Choice Specs is pressured very easily in a meta filled with Archeops (I wouldn't quite say it's a meta filled with archeops), and still cannot reliably break Rock-types and other Specially Defensive walls such as Type: Null.
  • Substitute and Nasty Plot, but you safely set up against virtually nothing and generally outclassed by Oricorio-G (because of the typing oricorio-g has)
  • Ominous Wind 2HKOes Oricorio-G, a major threat to Chatot on offense, but otherwise accomplishes little. (remove this)
  • mention encore

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-types**: Chatot simply lacks a reliable way to deal with these. Regirock is not even 4HKOed by Modest Chatot, and specially defensive Carracosta (not specially defensive, this isn't a set) or Cradily also easily wall Chatot. Lycanroc is at least 2HKOed by HP Fighting, but Accelerock forces Chatot out. Although Boomburst is powerful enough to put Archeops in Defeatest range, Stone Edge still OHKOes Chatot after the Defeatest drop. (stone edge isn't that common on archeops, so mention stone edge versions)

**Ghost-types**: Oricorio-G and Golurk are not 2HKOed by Chatter and can OHKO with Hurricane and Ice Punch, respectively. The former can set up a Substitute on a choice-locked Chatot, while the latter can set up Stealth Rock reliably against Chatot. Ghost-types are especially problematic as they punish Chatot for using Boomburst, forcing it to click U-turn until said threats are removed.

Looks good. QC 2/3.
