The Smog is a community project that's always looking for writers to write new content, along with people to help with other steps of the process such as grammar checking, HTML coding, and art. But as of late, we on The Smog staff has begun to notice that we don't have as much time available as we used to have, and are therefore looking for new people to fill our shoes. If you have worked with The Smog before and feel that you want to help out more behind the scenes, then feel free to shoot us an application through PM to all of the Smog Staff members ( Toast++ skylight Flora Vacate Bummer ). Here are some more specific credentials we're looking for:

  • Having earlier experience with working in The Smog's workshop, regardless of activity. The more issues you've contributed to, the better.
  • Using IRC regularly, as it makes for easier direct communication between staff members as well as being able to answer questions in The Smog's channel.
  • If you have proven yourself in other areas of Smogon, this will obviously speak in your favor.

What are the duties a Smog Staff member is expected to perform? Well...

  • Looking through and either approve or reject article applications for future Smog issues. While all staff members partake in this, it's good that all applications get an early reply and then work from there. We also have various consultants, so there's no requirement for specific knowledge about our various tiers, so a general knowledge will do just fine.
  • Being able to work with people and solve issues with articles or other problems that may arise, so being sensible and self-composed goes a long way. We also try to bump articles to make sure that they're being worked on, and if we have the opportunity, read through the articles through all their phases to find flaws or problems early.
  • Knowledge about HTML, GP, or art is not a requirement, but if you do have such knowledge, you can follow the articles through their various stages and help finding people to work on them (or if you have time, doing said work yourself). Intermediate CSS skills and some Javascript knowledge in particular is a big plus.
  • Helping new contributors with their questions, or just generally helping them set up their articles work stations so that everything runs smoothly (ie janitor stuff).

If you are interested to help out more with The Smog, then feel free to contact us, where you share basic information of yourself and the experience you have on these forums. If you are what we're looking for, we'll be happy to show you the ropes and the new duties that open up for you. :)

**ALSO**

We're specifically looking for someone to help out in our Art department. In addition to the stuff above, this staff member is also expected to:
  • It is not required to be an artist, but you do need to be able to offer constructive critisism and have a sound understanding of what's appropriate and expected of the illustrations we receive.
  • Manage the thread we have each issue that catalogues all articles and what artists are working on what, as well as making a judgment on what articles are in bigger need for art than others. The art leader is also expected to communicate with the artists and see if they have enough time to complete their work, or if someone else need to step in. And contrary to what out current art leader may have implied, the art leader is not required to contribute with art of their own if the art for an issue runs short.
  • The two official art leaders, Bummer and Zracknel , will still handle the approve the artists to draw for The Smog, but The Smog's art leader will have access to the same forum and offer their thoughts as well.
