Don't use that, use this [OU Edition]

But there is no need to post that a thread is bad. Obviously you have your opinions on this thread but the thread has been successful in other tiers and no one has complained about it. The point of the thread is to help noobs pick the pokemon who is best for their team over a pokemon who could make the team worse. It is also a place for experienced players to vent on the dumb stuff they see on the ladder and why another pokemon should be used over it. What's wrong with that?
Venting on dumb stuff can be done on the "Silly things you see on the ladder" thread.

Don't use this:

Venomoth @ Black Sludge
Trait: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 Spe/252 SpA/4 HP
Timid Nature
-Quiver Dance
-Sleep Powder
-Bug Buzz
-Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power Ground

Venomoth, with Sleep Powder and QD, becomes extremely powerful after a few turns, and Tinted Lens neuters many would-be counters. Unfortunately, there are many reasons not to run this set. First of all, after a Quiver Dance Venomoth already outspaces most of the OU Metagame; being only outsped by Scarfers and Swift Swimmers/Chlorophyllers/Sand Rushers, and without a +Special Attack Nature, Venomoth doesn't hit terribly hard. It's nice to be able to use HP Ground and KO Heatran, but running that leaves it open to Skarmory, another would-be counter. Sludge Bomb gives trouble with Gengar, who is going to see a lot of usage this Generation. You might be thinking "but it's for Fairies!" Tinted Lens removes the Bug resistance that Fairies have, making Sludge Bomb trivial and niche. It does get a nice STAB boost, but it's not reliable because it only gets two attacking moves. Black Sludge is useless because Venomoth is frail and the added bulk doesn't help it at all, and it really relies on that extra power to deal damage. Plus Volcarona outclasses this set completely, so if you want to have some sort of reason to use Moth over Volc, then...

Instead use this:

Venomoth @ Life Orb
Trait: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 Spe/252 SpA/4 HP
Modest nature
-Quiver Dance
-Sleep Powder
-Bug Buzz
-Psychic

A much better set. With Life Orb and Modest, Venomoth 3HKOs or even 2HKOs Blissey at +4 (which Venomoth isn't too unlikely to achieve) without much trouble. With Black Sludge and Timid, it barely 3HKOs. Psychic OHKOs Skarmory (and it can't really switch in on a Bug Buzz as it 2HKOs) while it 2HKOs even the most Specially Defensive of Heatran. It is 2HKOed by Fire Blast even when it's at +3 Special Defense, but it hardly matters because Venomoth outspeeds. Unfortunately this set is more difficult to use than QD Volcarona, but Sleep Powder and a smaller Stealth Rock weakness gives Venomoth its own niche over it.

To be honest, the only thing that would make Venomoth viable in OU is Baton Pass. As an attacker it is incredibly outclassed by Volcarona, which is a threat even without boosts, and the SR weakness is easily solved with roost/Giga Drain. Also Wonder Skin is so much more useful, since Roars and Whirlwinds will very often miss.

Don't use that:
ON A SUN TEAM
Xatu @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Bold Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Roost
- Night Shade/ Heat Wave/ Toxic

Xatu really has subpar stats all around, such that, if you miss a prediction on Stealth Rock, it really loses most of it's utility, especially because it has an SR weakness itself. Xatu really lacks any offensive presence, and relying on Night Shade reduces your utility once SR is up. And with a lack of Sp. Def, it can be taken down before setting up screens. The only major saving grace Xatu has is access to Roost.

Use this:
Espeon @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Psychic/Psyshock
- Morning Sun
- Light Screen
- Reflect
If you are in the sun, Espeon pretty much takes up Xatu's only redeeming factor and does it better. Morning sun lets it recover massive amounts of HP, such that it can stick around on Blisseys, Forretresses, and Ferrothorns, while setting up screens and hitting with a massive base 130 Sp. Atk supported Psychic. Espeon also has a pretty decent base 95 Sp. Def, so it can afford to fully invest in Defense and HP. If you mispredict, and SR does go up, you still have a very powerful and reasonably fast Psychic type on your team that can take both physical and special hits, and recover lost HP. Fast Bulky Espeon also exists, but as a direct comparison to bulky recovery Xatu, Espeon just does the job better for Sun teams.
