Introduction

DPP NU is a fantastically balanced tier with a high focus on offense based around fast and powerful Fire-types and primarily backed by strong Normal-, Dark-, Psychic-, and Fighting-types. Stall is rare and normally weather-based when it is seen. Offensive sun teams are an extremely powerful team archetype and hail, sand, and rain are all present as well. Finally, the lead metagame is highly diverse, featuring decent Spikes and Stealth Rock leads, Fake Out leads, and various anti-leads.

Offensive Threats

Banette
Typing: Ghost
Base Stats: 64 HP / 115 Atk / 65 Def / 83 SpA / 63 SpD / 65 Spe
Ability: Frisk / Insomnia

Banette stands out in DPP NU as the only physically-based Ghost-type available, and in a tier where Ghost-types are rare, it certainly appreciates the niche. Trick Room is a very viable strategy in the tier, and Destiny Bond, Will-O-Wisp, and Trick are all good disrupting moves in general. You'll normally see Banette as a Trick Room lead with the goal of setting up the field effect immediately and eliminating the opposing lead with Destiny Bond, which is a great niche it possesses as Banette is immune to Fake Out and Quick Attack. You may also encounter the rare Choice Band set that makes use of its massive Attack stat, STAB Shadow Claw, and access to Trick to rip apart standard stall teams.

Cacturne
Typing: Grass / Dark
Base Stats: 70 HP / 115 Atk / 60 Def / 115 SpA / 60 SpD / 55 Spe
Ability: Sand Veil

Cacturne is one of the few Spikers in the DPP NU metagame and probably the most offensive of the bunch. You'll typically see it as a lead thanks to its frailty and access to Sucker Punch. It also fits perfectly onto sandstorm teams thanks to its resistance to Water and opportunity to make use of its Sand Veil ability. Cacturne has a lot of flexibility in what its other moveslots are occupied with thanks to its massive mixed attacking stats; Leech Seed, Substitute, Energy Ball, Dark Pulse, Seed Bomb, Low Kick, and a whole mess of different Hidden Powers are all possibilities you'll encounter.

Camerupt
Typing: Fire / Ground
Base Stats: 70 HP / 100 Atk / 70 Def / 105 SpA / 75 SpD / 40 Spe
Ability: Magma Armor / Solid Rock

Camerupt exists almost only on Trick Room teams where its sweeping prowess is next to none thanks to its great mixed attacking stats and super low Speed. It has amazing coverage in just its STAB moves and it ensures that the Trick Room team doesn't lose momentum by Exploding on the last turn on Trick Room, almost ensuring a last-ditch KO and getting in the next setter safely. You may also encounter Camerupt outside of Trick Room using Rock Polish. Both special attacking and physical attacking Rock Polish sets exist, and it's hard to know which you're facing until it attacks, but rest assure either will likely feature Explosion as well.

Charizard
Typing: Fire / Flying
Base Stats: 78 HP / 84 Atk / 78 Def / 109 SpA / 85 SpD / 100 Spe
Ability: Blaze

Say hello to the best Pokemon in the DPP NU metagame. Amazing power and speed, a perfect offensive movepool, fantastic mixed options, and extreme variability combine to make a ferocious threat that requires every team to carry a counter or check to. A simple offensive Life Orb set featuring Fire Blast, Air Slash, Hidden Power Grass, and Roost is the most common set you'll encounter and the most immediately dangerous. Luckily, this simple set is also the easiest to counter. Unfortunately, Charizard has plenty of options to work around many of its counters. Sunny Day and SolarBeam decimate its Water-type counters, particularly Slowking. Dragon Dance and Swords Dance allow Charizard to turn the table on many of its specially defensive counters in a single turn. Rarely, you might encounter a Specs, Scarf, or even Belly Drum Charizard that all have specific normal would-be counters they eliminate. Overall, if you want Charizard to do it, it can probably effectively do it.

Dodrio
Typing: Normal / Flying
Base Stats: 60 HP / 110 Atk / 70 Def / 60 SpA / 60 SpD / 100 Spe
Ability: Early Bird / Run Away

There are a number of Normal/Flying types in the DPP NU metagame, but Dodrio is the only one worth using for a number of reasons. Most potently, it has the best combination of Attack and Speed out of the other birds. What's more, it also retains access to both Brave Bird and Double-Edge, unlike Fearow. Plus, it's ability Early Bird isn't completely useless, allowing it to switch into Grass-types a bit better than the other birds. You'll most commonly encounter the Choice Band set, as Dodrio's movepool doesn't extend far beyond those two moves. If not Choice Band, it'll likely be a Taunt disrupting set or Agility + Life Orb set to sweep late-game. Finally, always be wary of Quick Attack, as it really hurts coming from the Choice Band set.

Drifblim
Typing: Ghost / Flying
Base Stats: 150 HP / 80 Atk / 44 Def / 90 SpA / 54 SpD / 80 Spe
Ability: Aftermath / Unburden

That massive HP stat is undermined by those horrible defenses, but Drifblim is by far the most versatile Ghost-type you'll encounter in the tier. While a defensive support set is still viable, SubCM and Choice Specs are far more common and potent thanks to its good Speed and Special Attack stats. General offensive Substitute sets are also possible. Explosion is a fantastic tool for Drifblim and it packs a whallop thanks to its decent Attack stat. Be wary of Will-O-Wisp and Destiny Bond when facing Drifblim, as well as Aftermath, although sets making use of Unburden are a bit more common.

Electrode
Typing: Electric
Base Stats: 60 HP / 50 Atk / 70 Def / 80 SpA / 80 SpD / 140 Spe
Ability: Soundproof / Static

While the lead Rain Dance set is the most common and perceived as the only way to use Electrode, it's its late-game Life Orb sweeper set that truly sets Electrode apart from the pack and makes it worth using in NU. Base 140 Speed puts it well above everything else in the tier by a large margin, even most Choice Scarf users, which means it come in late-game and sweep up the opposition with its decently-powered STAB Thunderbolt. Hidden Power Grass and Ice are both equally used as coverage options, but if Hidden Power Ice is chosen Signal Beam is almost always used to complete neutral coverage on the tier. Taunt is a common sight on all Electrode, and Explosion is mandatory.

Roselia is not a bad pokemon. it's the only Spiker with some sort of defensive utility, and it can set up TSpikes too, even though they're pretty bad in this tier. I think you should add it

You should also probably add Jumpluff to offensive threats too, SD pluff is a p good cleaner.

Add Gardevoir to defensive, it's not as reliable as Hypno but it's still a pretty good special wall and has plenty of advantages in Will-O-Wisp, Heal Bell, and usable offenses.

Add Sandslash to offensive, it often runs SD, and is always offensive when it appears on sand teams.

Perhaps add Porygon2 to offensive as well, it's an ok OTR mon or LO tank.

Move Poliwrath from defensive to offensive. It's not bad as a bulky attacker with Encore and/or Bulk Up and/or Sub (or BellyWrath ofc), but as a wall Quagsire completely outclasses it.

I'm not sure Piloswine should be included at all, but if it is it should be under offensive. It's pretty terrible defensively. I probably wouldn't use it offensively either though.

IMO Cradily also falls more under offensive than defensive although I could see that one either way. I think of it more as an incredibly bulky sweeper than as a wall.

Remove Whiscash from defensive, I'm assuming that was a mistake.

Not too passionate about any of these, but I'd include em:

Flareon in defensive
Shedinja in offensive
Pikachu in offensive
Kadabra in offensive

made those changes Honko, I had put tanks/bulky attackers in defense but I changed some to offensive

also added Flareon and Kadabra, but I'm not gonna add Shedinja or Pikachu

A thing yes but on the backburner until I get some ADV NU stuff onsite. If Honko or someone wants to take the OP for now that's fine otherwise I will get to it ~eventually~ even though I know I said that 2 years ago apparently e.e

I'm not interested in taking this over (though I'm happy to help review it when it's ready). I'd rather work on getting analyses up. Leave this to the Ogleman.
