[OVERVIEW]

Lurantis is a good utility choice for teams with its decent defensive typing, good support options, access to the ability Contrary, access to recovery, and most importantly access to Defog. A pure Grass typing and decent mixed defenses make Lurantis a sought-after switch-in for attacking types such as Ground, Electric, and Water while also giving it good matchups against many Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock. Additionally, access to Defog gives Lurantis the ability to remove entry hazards from the playing field for its teammates. On top of all of that, Lurantis is not as passive as some other Defog users, as it has a strong STAB option in the form of Leaf Storm and the ability to raise its Special Attack through Contrary. However, Lurantis faces strong competition from other hazard removers such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan, which generally have more utility, such as priority or simply the ability to absorb Toxic Spikes, and are immediately more threatening by being more powerful and faster. Lurantis also struggles with weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Fire and Flying from threats like Pyroar and Oricorio-G, reliance on low-PP moves like Leaf Storm and Synthesis, and susceptibility to residual damage from the hazards it is trying to remove, especially Toxic Spikes.

Moves
========

Defog is the main reason to use Lurantis, and it removes entry hazards from the entire field. Leaf Storm combined with Contrary gives Lurantis a strong STAB option that also increases Special Attack to keep Lurantis from being passive. Superpower is the preferred option in the third slot, as it can increase Lurantis's Defense and provides excellent coverage to hit common Grass-resistant Pokemon such as Pyroar and Ferroseed. Toxic can also be used to get reliable chip damage on most switch-ins like Eelektross. The last move is Synthesis, for healing Lurantis and making sure that it stays around for as long as possible.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment with a Bold nature is given to increase defenses as much as possible to keep Lurantis as bulky as possible. Leftovers is chosen as the item for more healing so Lurantis doesn't rely on Synthesis as much, as switching in on hazards can wear it down over time. Contrary should always be the ability, as the powerful boosts with the use of Leaf Storm and Superpower are one of the main niches of Lurantis.

Usage Tips
========

Lurantis should be kept as healthy as possible to remove as many entry hazards as possible throughout the match. As a result, playing conservatively and using Synthesis whenever Lurantis is below 50% health is recommended. The best time to bring in Lurantis is either against a resisted move, like Golurk's Earthquake, or with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch from a teammate like Mesprit or Lanturn. Using Defog on a turn where Lurantis forces a switch is ideal, but Defogging on an opposing Pokemon that cannot do more damage than Lurantis can heal with Synthesis is also acceptable. It is important to remember that, even with Leaf Storm, Lurantis is not a wallbreaker or sweeper. The boosted Special Attack very rarely results in a sweep and instead finds a primary purpose in warding away less bulky attackers that may want to try and set up or other threats that may try to take advantage of Lurantis's perceived passivity such as Gurdurr. Lurantis is forced out by many threats in the tier, so making use of the turn that Lurantis is out by predicting threats to switch in and using the appropriate move is key to Lurantis's success.

Team Options
========

Teammates that patch Lurantis's weaknesses are always a good option, so teammates such as Lanturn for helping with the Fire and Flying weaknesses or Weezing to cover the Poison weakness work well. Lurantis generally lets in common Grass-type switch-ins, such as Ferroseed and Oricorio-G, so teammates that can take advantage of these switch-ins, such as Gurdurr and Carracosta, to set up is a good idea. Additionally, Lurantis can fairly reliably get rid of entry hazards, so teammates like Jynx that appreciate having them removed are also good picks for teammates. Lurantis also acts as a reliable Ground- and Water-resistant Pokemon, so partners such as Pyroar are excellent choices. Lurantis is weak to both status and chip damage, so having a cleric such as Audino to use Heal Bell and pass Wishes is an effective strategy. Audino also has an additional bonus of helping Lurantis deal with a lot of special attackers, most notably Abomasnow. Lurantis will also occasionally get rid of your own Stealth Rock, so having a reliable Stealth Rock setter such as Mesprit or Regirock is also recommended. Mesprit in particular also provides a slow U-turn to to bring Lurantis in safely without taking damage from an incoming attack.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Physically based defensive Lurantis is an option to utilize its higher Attack stat and boasts powerful options like Superpower and Knock Off; however, due to the low power of STAB Leaf Blade and the Contrary Special Attack boosts of Leaf Storm, specially oriented Lurantis actually outputs more damage faster even with Superpower factored in. Specially defensive Lurantis is also an option to better take potential Water- and Electric-type hits from threats such as Lanturn, but physically defensive Lurantis is preferred due to the overall benefit of being able to freely switch in on the many powerful Ground-types in the tier such as Golurk. Hidden Power Fire, Ice, and Rock are also options for coverage but are generally for more specific switch-ins such as Ferroseed, Alolan Exeggutor, and Oricorio-G, respectively. Aromatherapy is an option over Toxic to heal status from Lurantis and its teammates, but Lurantis would usually rather use both the turn and the moveslot for something else, like Defogging away entry hazards or poisoning a switch-in. A set with Rest and Sleep Talk is also a possibility for maintaining healing and getting rid of status, but forces Lurantis into one attack or foregoing Defog. Giga Drain is also an option, giving Lurantis a second STAB attack with more PP and healing utility, but is not recommended over Toxic and Superpower, which are more useful in more situations. A Relaxed nature is also an option to not lower the damage of Superpower, but doing so means that Lurantis no longer outspeeds threats such as Throh.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-type threats such as Pyroar resist Lurantis's Leaf Storm and can force it out with a super effective STAB attack of their own, though they fear Superpower or Toxic.

**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Oricorio-G resist Grass and can force Lurantis out with super effective Flying-type attacks or in some cases even set up directly in front of it.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Skuntank and Weezing resist Leaf Storm and are immune to Toxic and can force out Lurantis with super effective STAB moves.

**Toxic Spikes**: Toxic Spikes can cripple Lurantis by giving it poison. The poison damage can slowly drain the HP of Lurantis, and since it is an entry hazard, Lurantis cannot avoid getting hit by it when it comes in to get rid of said Toxic Spikes. Toxic Spikes setters such as Weezing also resist both Superpower and Leaf Storm, making setting Toxic Spikes easier.

**Strong Attackers**: Lurantis has decent defenses but is not particularly bulky. As a result, even neutral attacks from a strong attacker such as Choice Specs Mesprit can overwhelm Lurantis.

Moves

  • Defog is the main reason to use Lurantis, and it removes entry hazards from your and your opponent's field of play or just say the field
  • Leaf Storm combined with Contrary means that Lurantis has a strong STAB option that also increases Special Attack to keep Lurantis from being passive
  • Giga Drain is an option over Leaf Storm, trading power for more pp and healing utility. this isnt worth it lol. healing utility? you have syth and its not like you gain much back w/o spa boost you arent doing any damage
  • Hidden Power Rock hits Fire and Flying types, while Hidden Power Fire hits Grass, Steel and Bug types, all of which resist the STAB option list the pokemon
  • Toxic is also an option over Hidden Power what hidden power? to get reliable chip damage on most switchins, but doesn't benefit from the Contrary Leaf Storm boost and what switch-ins? you should be more specific
  • Last move is Synthesis, for healing Lurantis and making sure that it stays around for as long as possible

Set Details
========
  • Max HP and Defense are given to increase defenses as much as possible to keep Lurantis long-term not sure if "long-term" is the correct term lol maybe just say "as bulky as possible"
  • Bold is chosen as the nature to increase Defense further and lower Attack in the event of confusion
  • Contrary should always be the ability, even if you are not running Leaf Storm. but you should always run leaf storm ]: Leaf Guard has no use outside of Sunny Day, and the occasional stat drop from the opponent's attack can turn into buffs for Lurantis with Contrary
  • you didnt mention lefties

Usage Tips
========

  • Lurantis should be kept as healthy as possible to remove as many hazards as possible throughout the match. As such, playing conservatively and using Synthesis whenever Lurantis is below 50% health is recommended
  • The best time to bring in Lurantis is either against a resisted move, like Golurk's Earthquake, or with a slow Voltturn from a teammate like Lanturn or Mesprit. bringing lurantis on waters/grasses like qwilfish and gourg-xl is a good idea too
  • If you want power, then use Leaf Storm, as even without any EV investment Leaf Storm hits hard and boosts your Special Attack even higher. If you want longevity, then Giga Drain is the best option thanks to having twice as much PP and healing utility. no it really isnt. giga drain is piss weak and you arent healing shit back. syth is for longevity
  • It is important to remember that, even with Leaf Storm, Lurantis is not a wallbreaker or sweeper. The boosted Special Attack very rarely results in a sweep, and instead finds a primary purpose in warding away less-bulky attackers that may want to try and set up or other threats that may try to take advantage of Lurantis's perceived passivity. like..?

Team Options
========
  • Teammates that patch Lurantis' weaknesses are always a good option, such as Lanturn for helping with the Fire and Flying weakness or Weezing to cover the Bug weakness
  • Lurantis generally lets in common Grass switchins, such as Magmortar and Oricorio-G, so teammates that can make use of these switchins, such as Carracosta to set up, is a good idea
  • Lurantis can fairly reliably get rid of entry hazards, so teammates like Archeops who appreciate having them removed are also good picks
  • Lurantis is weak to both status and chip damage, so having a cleric such as Audino to use Heal Bell and pass Wishes is an effective strategy
  • when is slow voltturn a bad idea. honestly.
  • lurantis is a very reliable ground resist for teams so i feel like you need to add pokemon that appreciate it

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Physically-based Lurantis is an option to utilize the higher Attack stat, however thanks to the low power of Leaf Blade specially-oriented Lurantis actually does more damage.
  • Swords Dance is also a potential set, however Lurantis is not fast enough to fully utilize the boosted Attack and is generally outclassed by other setup attackers like Type: Null, Carracosta, or Lilligant
  • Specially Defensive Lurantis is also an option to better take potential Water and Electric hits, but Physically Defensive is preferred due to the overall benefit of being able to freely switch in on many powerful Ground-Types in the tier. huh? you resist water/elec unless you mean icebeam from like lanturn. either way you should expand. also what ground-types?
  • Aromatherapy

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-Types**: Fire-Type threats such as Magmortar resist Lurantis's STAB and can force it out with a super-effective Fire STAB attack of their own; however, Magmortar has to come in on entry hazards most of the time.

**Flying-Types**: Flying-Types such as Oricorio-G resist the Grass STAB and can force Lurantis out with a super-effective STAB attack, or in some cases can even set up directly in front of Lurantis. i mean oricorio-g takes a fair amount from leaf storm and rocks damage. why not just mention something else?

**Poison-Types**: Poison-Types such as Skuntank and Muk resist Leaf Storm/Giga Drain and can force out Lurantis with super-effective STAB. You may notice a pattern.

**Sap Sipper**: Threats such as Drampa, who can carry Sap Sipper, have an immunity to Lurantis's STAB, usually do not fear the occasional Hidden Power, and can retaliate with a strong attack.

**Toxic Spikes**: Ironically, Toxic Spikes can cripple a Lurantis by giving it poison. The poison damage can slowly drain the HP of the Lurantis, and since it is a hazard Lurantis cannot avoid getting hit by them when it comes in to get rid of the said Toxic Spikes.

**Strong Attackers**: Lurantis has decent defenses but is not particularly bulky. As such, even neutral attacks from a strong attacker such as Choice Specs Mesprit can overwhelm Lurantis

something about predicting switchins, lurantis is hard walled by plenty of things and ur gonna wanna do diff stuff in diff situations like double when facing drampa, toxic on magmortar, etc.

  • Hidden Power Fire and Rock are also options for coverage, but are generally for more specific switchins. Ice still lets Lurantis beat Ferroseed and hits Flying- and Grass-type threats, so Ice is best in the most situations
  • Aromatherapy is an option over Toxic to heal status off of Lurantis and its teammates, but usually Lurantis would rather use both the turn and the moveslot for something else, like Defogging hazards or poisoning a switchin. (also makes it extremely passive and struggles far more against things like articuno and magmortar for example)
  • Giga Drain is also an option, giving Lurantis a second STAB attack with more pp and healing utility, but is not recommended over Leaf Storm and Toxic/Hidden Power Ice are more useful in more situations

for a Contrary Hidden Power i would suggest HP [Rock], Because Rock hits everything minimum Neutral.
Hidden Power Ice has a lot more utility and allows Lurantis to take on Pokemon like Alolan Exeggutor, Ferroseed, and Drampa far easier compared to Hidden Power Rock. Hidden Power Rock does hit Fire-types but it'd more prefer to Toxic them, as Toxic has more utility in comparison.

Hi there, I'm new to the tier so I am curious what are the differentiating factors between using lurantis and servine? Both are defoggers with access to Contrary Leaf storm, is it a matter of power and speed?

[OVERVIEW]

Lurantis is a good utility choice for teams with its decent defensive typing, good utility options, access to the ability Contrary, recovery, and most importantly Defog. Lurantis's pure Grass typing and decent mixed defenses provide sought-after switchins for attacking types such as Ground, Electric, and Water. (Also gives it a good matchup against a decent amount of SR setters)Additionally, access to Defog gives Lurantis the ability to remove entry hazards from the playing field for its teammates. On top of all of that, Lurantis is not as passive as some other Defog users, as it has a strong STAB option in the form of Leaf Storm and the ability to raise its Special Attack through Contrary. However, Lurantis faces strong competition from other hazard removal users such as Skuntank and Hitmonchan who generally have more utility, such as priority or simply absorbing Toxic Spikes on switchin, and are immediately more threatening by being more powerful and faster. (So what's Lurantis' niche over them?)Lurantis also struggles with weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Fire- and Flying-Type from threats like Magmortar and Oricorio-G, (Also has to watch out for common coverage moves)and can be crippled by residual damage from the hazards it is trying to remove, especially Toxic Spikes.
(Maybe mention how PP sucks between Leaf Storm, Synthesis, and Superpower)

Moves
========

Defog is the main reason to use Lurantis, and it removes entry hazards from the entire field. Leaf Storm combined with Contrary means that Lurantis has a strong STAB option that also increases Special Attack to keep Lurantis from being passive. Superpower is the preferred third slot, as Superpower can increase Defense and provide excellent coverage (Examples?)when combined with Leaf Storm. Toxic can also be used to get reliable chip damage on most switchins like Magmortar. Last move is Synthesis, for healing Lurantis and making sure that it stays around for as long as possible.

Set Details
========

Max HP and Defense are given to increase defenses as much as possible to keep Lurantis as bulky as possible. Leftovers is chosen as the item for more healing so it doesn't rely on Synthesis as much.(Also makes it harder to wear down through hazards) Bold is chosen as the nature to increase Defense further and lower Attack in the event of confusion.(Don't need to specify the confusion for the attack drop) Contrary should always be the ability, as Leaf Guard is largely useless and (No need to mention Leaf Guard)Contrary combined with Leaf Storm and Superpower is one of the main niches of Lurantis.

Usage Tips
========

Lurantis should be kept as healthy as possible to remove as many hazards as possible throughout the match. As such, playing conservatively and using Synthesis whenever Lurantis is below 50% health is recommended. The best time to bring in Lurantis is either against a resisted move, like Golurk's Earthquake, or with a slow Voltturn from a teammate like Lanturn or Mesprit. It is important to remember that, even with Leaf Storm, Lurantis is not a wallbreaker or sweeper. The boosted Special Attack very rarely results in a sweep, and instead finds a primary purpose in warding away less-bulky attackers that may want to try and set up or other threats that may try to take advantage of Lurantis's perceived passivity such as Oricorio-G (Doesn't seem like the best example, cuz Oricorio can just KO Lurantis)or Gurdurr. Lurantis is forced out by many threats in the tier, so making use of the turn that Lurantis is out by predicting switchins of threats and using the appropriate move is key to Lurantis's success.
(Maybe give situations when and when not to use Defog)(also to be wary of coverage and toxic and stuff)
Team Options
========

Teammates that patch Lurantis' weaknesses are always a good option, so teammates such as Lanturn for helping with the Fire and Flying weakness or Weezing to cover the Poison weakness work well. Lurantis generally lets in common Grass switchins, such as Magmortar and Oricorio-G, so teammates that can make use of these switchins, such as Carracosta to set up, is a good idea. Additionally, Lurantis can fairly reliably get rid of entry hazards, so teammates like Archeops who appreciate having them removed are also good picks for teammates. Lurantis also acts as a reliable Ground and Water switchin, so partners such as Magmortar are excellent choices as Lurantis can absorb attacks meant for the partners. Lurantis is weak to both status and chip damage, so having a cleric such as Audino to use Heal Bell and pass Wishes is an effective strategy. Audino also has an additional bonus of helping Lurantis deal with a lot of special attackers, most notably Abomasnow.
(Yeah I see what Yogi means, the content is solid but could still be a little more "beefed up". Maybe mention some more spedef walls, Mesprit is always p good, and other phys walls that can help against things like Archeops. IDK, just throwing around ideas.)

Other Options
=============

Specially Defensive Lurantis is also an option to better take potential Water and Electric hits, (Such as?)but Physically Defensive is preferred due to the overall benefit of being able to freely switch in on many powerful Ground-Types in the tier such as Golurk. Hidden Power Fire and Rock are also options for coverage, but are generally for more specific switchins.(Such as?) Hidden Power Ice lets Lurantis beat Ferroseed and hits Flying- and Grass-type threats. (IK this is nitpicky, but any reason why you're putting HP Ice as separate from HP Fire and Rock? If its more relevant I'd put it before the other two) Aromatherapy is an option over Toxic to heal status off of Lurantis and its teammates, (Also helps with TSpikes)but usually Lurantis would rather use both the turn and the moveslot for something else, like Defogging hazards or poisoning a switchin. Giga Drain is also an option, giving Lurantis a second STAB attack with more PP and healing utility, but is not recommended over Leaf Storm and Toxic/Hidden Power Ice (Why mention HP Ice here if it's only an OO?)are more useful in more situations.
(I saw you had physical here, IDK why you removed it. At least mention Knock Off utility.)(Also maybe running Relaxed alongside Superpower on the main set)
Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-Types**: Fire-Type threats such as Magmortar (Maybe one or two more examples?)resist Lurantis's STAB and can force it out with a super-effective Fire STAB attack of their own.(Tho doesn't like switching in on a Toxic)

**Flying-Types**: Flying-Types such as Oricorio-G (Maybe one or two more examples?)resist the Grass STAB and can force Lurantis out with a super-effective STAB attack, or in some cases can even set up directly in front of Lurantis.(Also doesn't like switching in on a Toxic)

**Poison-Types**: Poison-Types such as Skuntank (Maybe one or two more examples?)resist Leaf Storm and can force out Lurantis with super-effective STAB.(Also immune to Toxic)

**Sap Sipper**: Threats such as Drampa and Miltank(Sad face), who can carry Sap Sipper, have an immunity to Lurantis's STAB, usually do not fear the occasional Hidden Power, and can retaliate with a strong attack or outstall Lurantis with Toxic and Heal Bell.(Drampa has to watch out for Superpower)

**Toxic Spikes**: Ironically, Toxic Spikes can cripple a Lurantis by giving it poison. The poison damage can slowly drain the HP of the Lurantis, and since it is a hazard Lurantis cannot avoid getting hit by them when it comes in to get rid of the said Toxic Spikes.(Examples of mons that can set them?)

**Strong Attackers**: Lurantis has decent defenses but is not particularly bulky. As such, even neutral attacks from a strong attacker such as Choice Specs Mesprit (I think you get the gist)can overwhelm Lurantis.
Kinda lacking in examples, but otherwise good job. 3/3. Bop.
