[OVERVIEW]

Meloetta is one of the best Calm Mind sweepers in the tier, with both high bulk and offensive stats and a unique defensive typing to aid it in its role of sweeping. The combination of Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, and Psychic hits every Pokemon for at least neutral damage, and an immunity to Ghost and resistance to Psychic allow Meloetta check other bulky Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Cresselia and Doublade. In addition, Meloetta's ability in Serene Grace doubles the chance of secondary effects occurring; this means it can often weaken a foe's Special Defense simply by attacking and makes it harder to deal with defensively. Being a bulky Psychic-type itself allows Meloetta to effortlessly set up on weak or resisted special attacks from Pokemon such as special Necrozma, bulky Moltres, and Espeon while allowing it to take stronger hits, unlike other premier sweepers in Salazzle and Feraligatr; this doesn't come at the cost of its power either, as Meloetta sports base 128 Special Attack and base 90 Speed and is capable of ravaging anything slower. Even with these strengths, Dark-types and Dark-type moves such as Knock Off and Sucker Punch are prevalent and scare Meloetta into not boosting if they're present on the opposing team. General offensive pressure directed at Meloetta lowers the number of opportunities it has to set up, as many threats are still faster than it. Furthermore, Meloetta's lack of recovery limits its usability, meaning it is easily worn down from status and entry hazards should one try to preserve it, and Meloetta relies on boosting its Special Attack in some way or Special Defense drops to break open vital defensive walls on opposing teams.

Moves
========

Calm Mind boosts Meloetta's Special Attack in order to increase its damage output. It also increases Meloetta's solid Special Defense stat, letting it tank a few special hits before it goes down. Psychic is Meloetta's best STAB move and most spammable attack, capable of OHKOing Nidoqueen, Roserade, and Bewear and 2HKOing Quagsire without a single boost. Focus Blast is a must-have coverage move for Meloetta, smacking Rock-, Dark-, and Steel-types for super effective damage. Shadow Ball weathers down bulky Psychic-types and Doublade, as a boosted chance to drop their Special Defense means they cannot simply sponge attacks and set up.

Set Details
========

252 EVs in Special Attack and Speed maximize Meloetta's offensive capabilities in order for it to sweep as well as it can. A Timid nature is used so Meloetta can keep a jump on positive-natured Mega Blastoise, Rotom-C, and Feraligatr while still Speed tying with Roserade and Life Orb Moltres. Fightinium Z is used in order to net a KO with +1 All-Out Pummeling on key defensive Pokemon such as Mega Steelix, Snorlax, and Umbreon as well as Stealth Rock users like Gigalith and Rhyperior. Serene Grace grants Meloetta a doubled chance of dropping a Pokemon's Special Defense through Shadow Ball, Psychic, and Focus Blast.

Usage Tips
========

Bring Meloetta in with U-turn and Volt Switch from the likes of Rotom-C and Gligar, or switch in on Pokemon it can sponge an attack from and threaten out such as Nidoqueen and Mismagius. When Meloetta is unable to boost, it can try to get some Special Defense drops with Shadow Ball to help soften up its checks for a sweep later. Toxic and Thunder Wave ruin Meloetta's effectiveness, so make sure to weaken or rid the field of bulky status spreaders like Cresselia, Milotic and Registeel or have a cleric on hand. Don't attempt a sweep until faster physical attackers that could serve as a threat to Meloetta are removed, as they can easily stop an attempt cold. Due to All-Out Pummeling being one-time use, make sure to time its use well, as the opponent could predict it.

Team Options
========

Fighting-types such as Bewear, Chesnaught, and Pangoro give Meloetta a much-needed switch-in to Knock Off, aid in breaking the opponent's team by checking opposing Steel- and Dark-types, and lessen its reliance on Focus Blast. Mega Glalie is a notable partner, as it can chip at bulky Steel-types and aid Meloetta's breaking ability by setting up Spikes. Gligar is an especially handy partner, being able to Defog away entry hazards that would otherwise wear Meloetta down and pivot Meloetta in safely with U-turn. Gligar can also chip at Steel-types with Earthquake so Meloetta can blast them away more quickly.

Other Options
=============

Electrium Z with Thunderbolt is an option to allow Meloetta to OHKO Mandibuzz and physically defensive Milotic at +1, but this comes at the cost of having Shadow Ball to hit bulky Psychic-types for super effective damage and makes Meloetta less reliable versus Umbreon and Snorlax. Choice Specs grants Meloetta more immediate power, allowing it to become a powerful special wallbreaker that is able to catch unprepared special walls. However, it faces stiff competition from Gardevoir, as while Gardevoir doesn't have access to U-turn and a Normal typing, it has Healing Wish and access to the very spammable Moonblast, giving it a slight edge. A bulkier Substitute + Calm Mind set can tank more hits and avoid status but misses out on a necessary coverage move in order to sweep. Assault Vest increases Meloetta's special bulk, turning it into an effective tank; this decreases Meloetta's greatest asset as an offensive presence, however. Choice Scarf is an option that allows Meloetta to revenge kill a swath of offensive threats, such as Salazzle, Feraligatr, and Swellow, but it comes at the cost of presence versus bulkier teams and is often strapped for moveslots.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Escavalier**: All variants of Escavalier are too bulky for Meloetta to get rid of with a +1 All-Out Pummeling and KO Meloetta in return with Megahorn or can Pursuit trap it for big damage. However, Escavalier's lack of recovery means it can be worn down into the range of +1 All-Out Pummeling.

**Mandibuzz**: Specially defensive Mandibuzz's high bulk means Meloetta has to boost to +3 to even have a chance at OHKOing with All-Out Pummeling, but this is very risky given Foul Play and Knock Off can 2HKO and 3HKO Meloetta respectively. Even if Meloetta should survive the encounter, it will likely be heavily weakened and susceptible to being revenge killed.

**Faster Attackers and Priority**: Faster attackers, such as Zygarde-10%, Mega Glalie, Yanmega, and Flygon, all heavily threaten Meloetta with strong attacks before it is able to move. Sucker Punch Honchkrow also threatens Meloetta with an OHKO and gains a Moxie boost in the process.

Banned deucer.
remove doublade from checks and counters. literally not a check at all. same with regi and zong. regi has to win a 50/50 to even hit it with toxic if it switches into a calm mind while bronzong dies in two hits if it switches in on calm mind.

it already had 3 checks before, but consider this a restamp

**Offensive Steel-types**: Offensive Steel-types in RU can be troublesome for Meloetta—Durant is naturally faster and crosses out OHKOes Meloetta with an X-Scissor or Crunch, (AC) and Escavalier is too bulky for Meloetta to get rid of with a +1 All-Out (AH) Pummeling and KOes it back Meloetta with Megahorn. It's worth noting that Doublade is not good at checking Meloetta, however, as it has to have a Swords Dance boost under its belt to do notable damage and takes a lot from Shadow Ball, and it is also incapable of hitting Meloetta with Shadow Sneak.

**Faster Attackers and Priority**: Faster attackers, (RC) such as Zygarde-10%, Mega Glalie, Yanmega, Flygon, (AC) and the aforementioned Durant all heavily threaten Meloetta with strong attacks before it is able to move.
