i was bored and this thread's dead and i don't plan on using these two teams bh anymore so

fun meme team w/ an interesting ho-oh set and a fun mega ray set, the ho-oh beats every non unaware wall in the game after a smash aside from flash fire registeels which are taken advantage of by the ray which btw shits on the only ""reliable"" triage answers in unaware aud and unaware megatar/sand stream megatar lul. ho-oh improofed by steela and in a pinch steela improofs mray too but kyogre's there to beat the ray mainly. imposter and fc tina are filler to make sure i dont lose to opposing setup and gigas and stuff. it's p quickly thrown together but it's been decent whenever i've tested so *shrug*

oh waterium cele for pdon

pheal gyara is fun, i love using it. it's not the best set out there but neither is the ladder lol so i decided i'd have a little fun w/ this team. z draco nails tina provides a trick immunity does a decent amount to imposter on the switch etc registeel imposterproofs the ray traps and beats xern and can ohko diancie w/ it's anchor shot !!_!! rest of the team is just a standard defensive core prank tina's a little weird but i needed a prank or just felt like using one ig. this team struggles a bit vs ph megatar, might wanna swap registeel to steelium z since most non koff sleepers run kiss nowadays and that'll help vs ttar too.

i also bring one (1) (uno) aaa team

firium z naga to beat all mages after an np (except for primsea but i doubt that's a set). rest are just... support wallbreakers ig and a decent defensive core, weav pursuit traps a decent amount of shit in the tier and stuff. buzzrachi's a fun core, i like it a lot in this tier. ofc i don't main aaa so this team isn't gonna be the best but it's been decent i built it back when laxpras was around and tested it with him ;_;7 but ye that's the team

hf feel free to change these teams until they're not even my teams anymore lol idrc, also these prob could use some improvements since meta's changed and stuff but for the most part these are fairly solid.

Well, I make unusual teams once in a while, and this was one such team which has been highly successful on the 1v1 ladder and for tours as well...
Kartana @ Grassium Z

EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 Spe
Impish Nature
- Leaf Blade

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 100 HP / 96 Def / 200 SpD / 112 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Overheat
- Roost

Primarina @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Def / 80 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sparkling Aria
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Rock]
- Icy Wind
Kartana takes on much of the physical meta, like MDos, LandoT, physical Koko, MetagM, Donphan, Golem, Crustle etc.... Volcarona takes on the special side of things like Magnezone, Porygon-Z, Magearna, Kommo-o, Mega Sableye... Primarina takes care of stuff like Mega Charizards, Mega Lopunny, Donphan Golem (Kartana is iffy in GolPhan case, since they can run Counter). I don't have an actual proof of topping ladder with this team, but I thought I'll dump here, so............

im slowly losing interest in ag and while these aren't the best of teams hopefully they inspire some creativity or something

https://pokepast.es/6f8ee18277a45937
this is like chansey balance with a tangrowth, idea is basically that zyg can't hurt your team at all unless its like early sm dragonium bs, in that case your opponents not very bright but idk lures work i guess fairyceus is on every team so they really shouldn't, and in theory fairyceus handles dragonium zyg fine if they're not a good gengar/goth player. shuca ttar makes matchup vs ray/gar/ho-oh/viv a lot easier, but you only really like the last if you have roar over sr, which is sacrificing a lot to say the least. scarf ho-oh allows the team to bop marsh/psyspam/gar/other fast things, it works in practice, hunter can vouch for its viability. you can put 104 atk evs on tang to ohko gar after rocks with zmove but like if you can catch gar on the switchin you earned being able to use this crap. z-knock is for 2hkoing smeargle after initial knock dw guys i think this stuff through.

https://pokepast.es/150790000b6b047f
nice ho built around my favourite set in the meta, 3 atk rockceus. unfort i use it too much and it catches no one off guard but oh well. you shouldn't really have an issue against anything except like dd eq ray if certain mons are weakened enough but otherwise quite reliable which is strange for a team of mine.

https://pokepast.es/1674d048743122e9
the most standard ho i can build

https://pokepast.es/50892183f4c4c825
dual xern in electric terrain so that thunder ohkos dusk mane at +2. no one runs anything else other than like poisonceus, you can edit sets for that if you really want but i didn't see them enough for running psychic to be justified. not reliable but definitely fun.

https://pokepast.es/30c747e9c0077ce2
dragon spam + gar & cele & dusk mane so you can remove their fairy and have no issues. only ultra if xern is removed/impaired enough that you don't need dusk mane anymore.

https://pokepast.es/6fc7624602ae35b4
second version of the concept above, instead of spamming dragons just fairy-weak mons with gar and dusk mane, same point as the ultra above.

https://pokepast.es/e5def72541ddedab
scarf terrak ho, the terrak doesn't put in much work but the other 5 mons carry well enough that i can justify using this team occasionally. it's a good team, like you could run something like https://pokepast.es/6600e5de8e904480 instead but where's the fun there, yknow?

https://pokepast.es/2ee1bba7ee6372fb
if you can ignore the zayn nicknames this is very fun to use. there's so many dumb lures, i brought this vs purple g2 in seasonal and it would've won if i didn't miss edge on ho-oh. regardless this team is quite reliable unless you're facing an ogre, especially scarf, then you might as well forfeit on matchup, you're not winning that.

https://pokepast.es/ad141ff09449785d
this was one of the first teams to abuse swagger + fairy lock + spectral thief combo. if you can pull it off it sure is rewarding, but usually something goes wrong.

https://pokepast.es/824a88c6fee55dec
this was my first ultra necro team back in november, people were abusing sd so i tried out cm and it put in work. didn't like the team around it so didn't use it much but now cm is standard and im sitting here feeling like a fool. it has 2 dons but this isn't really a new thing.

https://pokepast.es/b8356891b218e728
cofagrigus toxic spikes bulky offense. really cool to use and actually somewhat reliable. issues with it though like you're not keeping up spikes, but regardless cofagri puts in work against opposing teams and it's always fun to see. you generally just send it out first, if they lead yveltal or darkceus hard to mag.

https://pokepast.es/bde884e6a91c9aad
umbreon semi stall, very old team from early usum meta. can put in work but yea like there are better teams.

https://pokepast.es/8dd45c0a49451c7c
gira-o + mola para spam + 2 hexxers. very very efficient against unprepared opponents, works nicely against anyone though. you could replace mola with waterceus, but that hurts blissey stall matchup a bit + decreases pdon/gar/gira-o longevity but you could get away with that.

https://pokepast.es/b8f3069ec7cc8af3
built this with thimo a while back. fun team where you sub mgar turn 1 (unless scarf yveltal or whatnot), trap the support arc, stall it out of judgment pp, then flatter it to full, hard gar, psych up, sub, sweep. it's very fun to use and quite reliable, it's just really really nice.

https://pokepast.es/7185716324fa2003
specs lunala + lo xern balance. specs lunala allows it to break through some other balances quite easily without forfeiting defensive utility. lo xern just 2hkos chansey / ho-oh / other stuff.

https://pokepast.es/11e6cbbcbe3b2531
block spite pyuku stall allows goth like capabilities without wasting a defensive slot. rest allows it to stall out pp so it can beat stuff like chans but if you feel this is irrelevant feel free to run recover instead.

https://pokepast.es/26633e6c84016803

Just dropping some information about ORAS Mix and Mega and some teams because it’s a RoA Spotlight Ladder this month!

Old Gens Other Metas Mega Thread
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/old-gens-other-metas-mega-thread.3597495/

Game mechanic changes
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/mechanical-differences-between-the-gens.3474872/

Just a few meta observations I made playing ORAS and USM:

Webs are a popular HO play style in USM because it allows heavy hitters to compensate for their often low speed stat, which is exactly what Blazikenite does in ORAS. Speed boost provides revenge killing and sweeping capabilities that helps offense become less linear without harming the HO vs HO matchup, not to mention the fact that it offers bulkier teams more counter play vs wall breakers like Terrakion. So far, I’ve found Lando-T, Exca, and even Empoleon to be fantastic users of the stone.

With Zap Cannon banned, Pidgeotite users can’t spread antically spread Paralysis, but they can still put things to sleep with perfect accuracy and hit extremely hard given the hefty SpAtk boost. Gengar, Mew, Thunderous, Keldeo, and Tornadous are very strong and consistent users.

Deoxys-S is probably the best hazard setter in the tier with Gyaradosite, but that also means sacking a Pokemon to simply gain momentum. It can also run a few offensive sets like Pinsirite or Pidgeotite, but it performs best as a hazard setter.

With Shadow Tag legal, Mega Gengar can support offensive teams remove specific threats for the rest of its team to sweep. For example, it can thunder a Skarmory or Perish Trap a Blissey to allow an Excadrill or Mew to sweep respectively. Of course, it still takes huge damage from even resisted priority and is susceptible to pursuit users like Weavile.

Latiasite immediately becomes a million times better thanks to the lack of Thousand Arrows. For example, Latiasite Tran and Tenta are great support Pokemon that check the hellish Blazikenite Lando-T himself. Also, the lack of Magearna means that dark types like Weavile and Hoopa-U become extremely potent (think Darkrai in USM without Magearna).

https://pokepast.es/7c74af95b773a3fa
Terrakion and Lando-T are the primary offensive core while Entei provides useful priority to beat threats like Weavile. Primal Groudon, Giratina-O, and Klefki are great utility/support mons that also check certain threats without losing momentum. Back in the day, I used this to win several dailies, peak ladder several times, and beat a lot of reputable players.

https://pokepast.es/04eda0569227437f
Hoopa-U is the primary breaker versus threats like Skarmory which would otherwise put a stop to the offensive core while Excadrill and Zygarde ease the matchup against offensive mons like Terrakion/Keldeo. Heatran and Waterceus check –ate and Primal Groudon. Lastly, our own Primal Groudon is important for setting up rocks and threatening steel types.

https://pokepast.es/efebb20236d83dda
Tentacruel is stellar in terms of role compression; checking ate, clearing hazards, setting Toxic Spikes, and spreading burns are easy to achieve. Mega Gengar and Lando-T dispose of specific threats without losing momentum thanks to their speed. Mew and Blissey are soft checks for physical and special threats respectively.

A lot of the sets/spreads can be changed for preferences/meta developments (i.e changing Thunder Wave to Shadow Ball on Blissey on the last team in order to beat Mega Gengar), but they are generally well built.

So yeah... check out the ladder ^__^

Given that October is once again STABmons month, I thought I'd drop a couple teams I've been using basically since the Extreme Speed ban.

Rain Offense
This is a pretty standard looking rain Hyper-Offense team featuring Swampert-Mega and Ashninja. Yanmega makes for a lategame sweeper which doesn't rely on rain but appreciates the opposing team being worn down. Ferrothorn sets rocks for the team and acts as one of the Grass and Electric type switchins on the team, but could be switched out for something that is less of a momentum sap (or run Volt Switch).

Greninja is the primary wallbreaker for this team. At full health under rain it hits absurdly hard with Water Spout, even before being Ash'd. It also punishes sacks, which often forces your opponent to take chip damage or sack other Pokemon in order to retain the ability to check Greninja, which sets up for a lategame Yanmega sweep.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7stabmons-766485031
I have no good replays so here's a replay of someone with a Drapion forfeiting 5 turns in.

Yanmega Balance
This team uses a defensive core of Sylveon, Rotom-Wash, and Heatran to support an offensive Pidgeot/Yanmega/Terrakion core. Pidgeot sleeps and pivots on its checks, which wears them down for an eventual Yanmega sweep. Terrakion forces out just about all of these checks besides Sableye, which is forced out by Sylveon, preventing them from burning sleep turns or recovering from the chip Pidgeot deals. Sylveon is capable of checking Special Thundurus and standard Dragon Dance Zygarde (not at the same time unless you can steal heals against something) along with a number of other, less impressive threats and spinning for Pidgeot and Yanmega, while Rotom forms a voltturn core with Pidgeot and checks Lando-T. Heatran sets rocks, stallbreaks, and checks some threats, notably Yanmega and Pidgeot. Magma Storm notably breaks Yanmega's sash.

Terrakion is band to allow for easier revenge killing, something this team otherwise struggles with. In general this team cannot afford to allow anything to set up very far, and that's a major weakness in the team in my experience.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7stabmons-763079754

This is the only good replay I could dredge up, besides one where I lost to stall :( You can go find that one yourselves if you feel the need.

I was gonna post this in the thread for the tour in question but it got locked before I could.
https://pokepast.es/c69b0118377a9cd1
This is all the teams I built/used for the BH Ban Happy tournament run by MAMP (one was kindly built for me by morogrim so I hope he doensn't mind it being shared but he's not online rn to ask so w/e). A few teams I never used beacuse they were built for other players or they looked bad.

Warning: do not use these in normal BH, they will be dreadful. There were just some fun ideas here and I wanted to do something before I deleted them.

And before anyone says this is the wrong place for it blame The Immortal

fresh squads for my mans

note: this team dump is a bit more curated than the last one, so dont expect to see super dumb stuff like the drum gar squad, cursed_fwg, or that scarf regen zyg + regenvest entei team that no one remembers. not all of them are super consistent but they all at least have potential. enjoy

Stuff that I used/built during the most recent mnm seasonal, just gonna go chronologically ig:

<- Click on these for pokepaste links

My everything check is Banettite Zygarde. Don't glare dark types. Alakazite puts Darkrai's speed tier above Metagrossite Kartana without dropping bulk so that's cool ig. Also you get to tech by stealing Lunala's Shadow Shield sometimes. Focus Blast + Sludge Bomb over Ice beam + Thunder is worth considering as coverage here. Not much else to say here because this is old and I haven't really used it much.

S/O Jordy and Chazm for making this, it's actually one of my most trusted teams in the meta right now. Toxapex is like a perfect Slowbro partner as it's one of like two good Lunala checks that don't take up the Sablenite stone, also helps with Slowbro's lack of initial power by pushing things like Terrakion into KO range. The first three mons here are fairly self-explanatory, they just help blanket check everything pretty much. Noivern as the defogger helps out to stop webs builds from destroying the team and handles SD don decently, which is a requirement on Slowbro teams. It's often important to be accurate playing with this team though, make sure you figure out when you need to use your blanket checks to do things, otherwise they'll just run through your defensive core. Also getting Slowbro and often Noivern megad is a priority so work for a good opportunity to do that. All of this is generally doable because of the sheer potential of the first three in 1v1 matchups forcing a lot of switches, so just be creative in your playing once you work out what you need to win.

Subgeo xern team. Picked Pins Kart as a partner to put some hurt on balance teams with specially defensive variants of Magearna. The rest is a fairly standard way to fill out the team, went for Ice Beam on Lunala because Luc Zyg matchup is not fun, although Focus Blast is also a good option here so the team definitely has a bit of a problem there. Main thing to note is that this team is pretty slow so things can go wrong pretty quickly if you misplay or just get a particularly tough matchup. Also through a bunch of these teams you'll see that i'm taking care to have two hazard deterrents (bounce or defoggers), ideally that would be one bouncer + one defogger that synergizes well with the bouncer, in this case it's two offensive Defoggers though, so the team can have issues if a rocks setter decides to sacrifice themselves to have rocks for a bit. This team does however have a lot of breaking power as well as a cleaner for the endgame, so make sure that you're trying to make offensive progress before your opponent gets an opening to win the game. Also try not to get smashed by Lunala lul.

Fairly generic stuff with a couple tweaks like tox mandi to maintain pressure on Arceus formes. Plume don is there to burn Mandibuzz, Lunala is there to take advantage of burned Mandibuzz. I wanted Entei for something which I now do not remember but I still remember considering a Steel type in that slot because of the weakness to Lele. Not sure whether this is quite there yet but it does at least showcase some basic meta stuff like mandi+fairyceus.

I used it, you shouldn't. Heart Swap was a tech to maybe steal boosts from Aggronite Buzzwole or Altarianite Zygarde idk lol I was bored. Heal Bell would def be a better option. Max Def Lunala is passive but can pull off some impressive calcs against the meta and frees up the Arceus slot so Rockceus becomes free.

I think pogre builds are actually in an ok spot right now, without the huge spam of offensive teams that blew right through it during its last trend. It also stands out in terms of raw breaking ability and the fact that it can soften the matchup against mons like Rock Polish Pdon on offense. Manectite Genesect is something I've already mentioned on the mnm thread, basically just a blanket physical check with pivot, which also pretty much sums up how the team works - simply pivot with Genesect a few times and hit them with powerful attacks. Fairly easy team to play with until you face a Lunala at least.

Another Geoxern team, this time with its powerful partner on offensive builds in Tapu Lele. Tapu Lele tends to draw in and consistently weaken the same prep for Xerneas (Heart Swap Mage, Aggro Mew, Ndm, etc). Normally these builds run into an obstacle where there's too much to cover with the remaining slots since there's a lot of defensive redundancy with the first two, especially against the various mons that threaten offense. This can be alleviated by running the Tapu Lele set seen here, giving the team an extra valuable check to Rock Polish Pdon (spread always lives after Rocks), as well as checks to Zygs and an emergency Intimidate. Obviously the trade off is that Lele loses a lot of offensive potency but in general it will still do its job offensively in the matchups it's needed for. Rocks Taunt Dia Terrak was the easiest way to fit rocks onto this team and actually have them stay up, and Red Orb Darkrai is an interesting pick that can take advantage of stuff like Slowbro, as well as soft checking Lunala. This team is still fairly weak to Alt Zyg, so most of the time you'll want to try and reach the conditions for a xern win quite quickly, before Alt Zyg manages to break through the emergency checking here.

Another Slowbro team. As I mentioned earlier, these builds are generally struggling for Lunala checks and for this particular game I wanted to make sure I had a check to ekiller, so I ended up with a fast Metagrossite Mandibuzz of all things (at least it's a better version of Taunt Foul Play Yveltal). The Mandibuzz speed can be dropped to 323 if you're not bothered about Lunala, the spdef right now is for Lunala Moonblast but it can get 2HKOed by Modest variants, so it may appreciate more investment there over Speed. However, as this variant of Mandibuzz still doesn't enjoy Toxic from Defog variants of Lunala, I decided to change the Pdon set to Eruption + Rocks, which allows it to break through Mandibuzz and Defog Lunala if played well, keeping up pressure on teams with those mons since they're generally expected to check Pdon. Alt Zyg fits well on these types of builds naturally and NDM provides a solid wincon to abuse Pdon's ability to smash bulky things. On top of this NDM helps out Magearna, acting as a secondary steel that can take on Lele and other special Fairies more comfortably.

Cata prep 2: Mental Breakdown Boogaloo

This is just stuff that I may have ended up bringing in finals, ngl some of it got really questionable so I'm kinda glad we didn't end up going there.

One thing i've noticed lately is that Webs as a playstyle is back to having a broad range of options. This is because Shuckle grants a pretty unique advantage against common playstyles in the meta, which is that it can pretty much always set rocks reliably vs balance builds, regardless of how good their matchup is against every other rocker. Additionally, since slower powerful breakers can now find a use on webs as opposed to on standard teams where there's a greater emphasis on covering things defensively, this balance matchup is enhanced even further. The result of all of this is that webs' strengths come with the strength of their setter in a large part right now, and as long as the mons that are filling in are decent in some way (with very different standards to standard teams' rating of these mons) then webs will still do the job where it's expected to.

HOWEVER, I'm not sure any of this reasoning justifies whatever in the goddamn this sunwebs is:

- Why is there a Groudon?
- Why is sun the play?
- Why did Geoxern just go on a webs team??
- What is the Landorus doing here?

The simple answer to all of these questions is "idfk but sunwebs lmfao". The more complex answer is that Tapu Lele can now roast steels with only a ton of support, and Groudon can OHKO a support arceus at +2 so it must be good.

Ig this was kinda a version of the same team but hey it has an ekiller yay. Also managed to avoid having regular Groudon on this one so that's a W in my book.

This one was fairly close to happening until I realised that I don't even have rocks. Idek what to say guess the basics kinda just slipped my mind there. At least it has a Defogger so that's another W in my book. Flamethrower on Scarf Ho-Oh for more reliability against Kartana and Bulk Up Buzzwole.

We just pp stall every Mage check with Substitute and Pressure right? Well kinda, but also this team is hard matchup fishing. Just don't face anything that beats it because you'll have no way to play out haha yes.

Ekiller isn't great but I felt like it fit here with its lack of breaking capability being somewhat accounted for by Pogre. The rest is pretty standard for a Pogre BO archetype, Alt Zyg would normally take a backseat to Entei on these types of teams but since i decided to not run a support Arceus I needed help against Luc Zyg. After building this team and looking back on it I think LO Yveltal with Sucker Punch would have worked well over ekiller here too. Overall this team seems okay in comparison to the others, I would have been fine with bringing it.

Other cool stuff

https://pokepast.es/a4588e45b4f2b689 - Ferrothorn isn't a good spiker even with all of this support to weaken bouncers, wouldn't recommend.
https://pokepast.es/5674bd859e77ea0a - Spikes 2
https://pokepast.es/6764089332d2947f - Pins Tran is chazm's idea, trap things and then boom. EVs are for KOing max spdef Mandibuzz with Magma Storm + One turn of trapping damage + Boom
https://pokepast.es/1913532cb9761184 - SD Ray
https://pokepast.es/f80397af3dc40c7b - Subcm Lele
https://pokepast.es/b5c3edc1a85496b8 - I barely even remember building this cause it's old but it looks kinda cool. Wisprai allows it to midground between a bunch of its switchins like non-sablenite Buzzwole, Altarianite Zygarde, Terrakion and even teching against Toxic Psywave Blissey, the last part would be more helpful if I could actually improof the rai because right now it almost slams stall except for the looming ditto countersweep. Entei spread lives a super-effective Arceus Judgment, giving it the opportunity to muscle through any Arceus forme it wants to by spamming Return and then Espeeding whenever they don't click Recover (you can do this because you're slower).
https://pokepast.es/1a1561fb437fa8a4 - Generic 1
https://pokepast.es/78fd29b555e95500 - 6 SD LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

21 teams there, enjoy them because i probably won't be having much fun with these teams anymore.

it seems we have arrived once more. before the teams, i'd like to talk about a few things.

some of you guys already know this but i don't plan to continue playing competitively in gen 8 bh. i won't pretend that this game has given me nothing, but at the same time i don't think it's worth it any more. i've been to the top and what has that gotten me? rejected from team tours with no explanation?

oms needs to get rid of its inferiority complex and clout chasing of everything else on smogon if it wants to be a good community. people with little to no regard for the game or its players have an unreasonable amount of influence. this isn't a model that makes players want to stay and continuously improve.

i might become just like all the other bh players and come back for the team tours to crush the dreams of the new generation of bh players. that seems to be the only system that's really sustainable at this point.

anyway, here are the teams.
