Project ORAS PU Teambuilding Competition (See post #362)

The suspect is over, so let's get back to the building! This week's core is:

The croc is all the rage nowadays, particularly with its CB set to weaken Bronzor for other pokemon to sweep. How will your team abuse a battered Bronzor?

(Please, please just use CB. Sash lead is slower than Smeargle, so fast taunt alone isn't enough. I guess Taunt+Rocks+good dual stab is decent, but seriously, just use CB.)

I decided to build around Krokorok + Muk. Krok is a nice partner for Muk since it can really annoy a lot of Muk's switchins, such as Bronzor, Metang, and Beheeyem. Muk in turn provides a fantastic check to all sorts of special attackers that would threaten Krok such as Rotom-Frost. I decided Mr.Mime is also a great partner since it really appreciates Psychic-types out of the way, which Krok can eliminate except for Grumpig that speedcreeps :pirate:. Focus Blast can be exchanged with Shadow Ball if you're feeling scared of fast Piggy. For my Stealth Rock setter I wanted FAT RELI since it provides the same niches as Golem but I didn't need the Electric immunity. It also deals with Pawniard and Mawile a lot better, which really annoy Muk, and there's the option for Earthquake over Waterfall so you can reliably counter those two. I chose Pelipper as a Defogger since it helps me a lot with Monferno as well as Leafeon. Finally, Leafeon rounds out my team as a reliable revenge killer. Double Edge can be swapped out for Xscissor because even with Muk, revenge killing Leafeon and Cacturne can be a pain.

So here is a really fun team I built with Krokorok and Arbok for the core as Krokorok can Pursuit trap Psychic types and also threaten pokemon like Golem and Stunfisk that check Arbok. Clefairy was next because it helped me make up for Krokorok being a shitty Electric switch in and Clefairy has a lot of synergy with the core which is good at beating Steel types and Muk effectively. Tangela gives me a good switch in to Stoutland and other physical threats in the tier like Golem and Leafeon. At this point the team was pretty slow so I decided to add two scarfers (Yes you read correctly lol). Scarf Rampardos is not really meant to be used as a scarfer per say but an offensive threat that still hits very hard and gives me a good check to the flying types this team is otherwise weak to. Lastly, the team was looking pretty weak to Monferno due to Arbok not being able to check it very well and Clefairy being specially defensive. I played around with Floatzel for a bit but then I thought Scarf Grumpig could work really well as it checks a variety of pokemon that I'm weak to such as Rotom-F, Monferno and Mr. Mime. Overall I think this is one of the coolest teams I've ever built that is actually effective and you can catch your opponent off-guard with some of the sets pretty easily.

I know the request said Steel-trapper, but Ursaring beats almost every Steel-type anyway (Taunt Probopass and SD Mawile excepted). Besides, Krokorok forces Steels out and Pursuits them so it's basically a Steel-trapper, while also trapping Ghosts which is actually relevant for Ursaring.

Anyway, Ursaring+Krokorok is a very basic start and you know what it does. From there I went with a Clefairy/Prinplup/Gourgeist core which just blanket covers a ton of stuff. The Prinplup set is weird, but I wanted some longevity to it and it goes well with Clefairy's Heal Bell. Clef has Seismic Toss because that's all the rage right now but I don't think Moonblast is a bad idea when Encore annoys a lot of the things Seismic Toss is for anyway. Geist is basic Giest, and at this point I noticed Mawile/Leafeon were the biggest threats. I sorta just made up the Ninetales set specifically to fit this team but it was nice in the 2 games I tried it in so don't question my brilliant set-making skills.

This team actually originally had banded Krok but i needed speed control and didn't want to change any other member of the team so yea. The rest of the team is pretty simple. Muk and Stoutland are the two best mons in PU atm and both love Bronzor being weakened. Bronzor + Heal Bell Altaria is the Defensive Core where Bronzor checks normals, psychics, and pretty much 3/4ths of the meta. Phys Def Altaria checks most of the things that Bronzor can't like Monferno, SD Leafeon, Pawniard, and non-Hp ice Ninetales. Heal Bell allows Bronzor to put in even more work. Lumineon is added as the last mon to do basic Lumineon things. If you really want to make Krok band you could potentially replace Stoutland with Scarf Dodrio but w/e.

So this is a really weird looking team. I must have made five or six Krokorok teams before this one, and I really hated most of them. I think I can accept the team weaknesses in this one, though, due to how it should be played.

This team is built around Krokorok weakening Bronzor for Nasty Plot Simisage, Shift Gear Klang, and Choice Scarf Mime to start doing work against the opponent's team. Krok is CB Pursuit, Simisage is the first wincon. With Krok also being good vs Muk, Simisage can rampage once Muk is weakened or gone. Rotom-Fan is a Monferno check and Wisp user. Prinplup is for rocks and defog, both of which I needed. Signal Beam is for Cacturne and other grass-types. Klang is the normal resist, but it should only be used as a check. I'll explain why in a bit. Finally, Mr. Mime provides speed, and Healing Wish is especially useful on this team, as it give Klang and Simisage a second chance to sweep. Also provides another Monferno check.

The idea I has when playing this was to let my opponent pick a play with their choiced mons, then check them with the mon that capitalizes the most on that play. Example: opponent knocks out Prinplup with two Frustrations from Stoutland. Go to Klang, Shift Gear up, and now your opponent has a problem. When they go to their steel resist, double to Krok and force them to make a bad 50/50. Same mentality versus Rotom-Frost. If they lock into Thunderbolt, set up with Simisage; Blizzard, Klang. Healing Wish comes in especially handy here.

It's kinda weak to everything, but keep rocks up and you'll be fine.

ManOfMany wins! Your next core is:

I was looking through the LPTL thread and I found HJAD and Teddeh both saw success with bulky setup Beheeyem (although HJAD stuck to Nasty Plot and Teddeh stuck to Calm Mind, which I found interesting.) It breaks stuff, it can be speedpassed to, it usually gets a kill. I've played with it, and it is indeed very hard to deal with, so I thought "Why not bring it back?"
