Hey, sorry this is late!_! jewish holidays make me busy. you guys aren't going to have as much time to vote this week, oh well

There was a tie, so I had Megazard break it, and the winner for this week is Slowbroth with his Monferno submission! The runner up is Machoker with his Murkrow submission! Congrats to you both. This is now in the archive.

This week you will be brainstorming partners for what I believe to be a powerful, but underrated mon in this meta.

Regice @ Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rock Polish
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast

Rock Polish Regice is an extremely threatening sweeper in this meta. Its natural bulk allows it to take many hits, especially on the special side, and with a Rock Polish up, it outspeeds many common metagame threats. What will you pair with Regice?

Submissions for partners end on Friday. Then voting will be Friday through Sunday. Sorry. Lol.

Altaria @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Earthquake

Altaria can provide a Monferno check which Regice needs, It can also weaken Chinchou with Earthquake and beat up Steel-types since they love to come in on Draco Meteors. Regice also helps to check Rotom-Frost, Articuno, and overall appreciates Altaria's ability to wallbreak with Draco Meteor.

Pawniard+Regice basically break down each others checks and counters to allow it for either of the two to sweep. Regice 2HKO's Stunfisk, Tangela, Relicanth, Probopass, and Gabite. All of which Pawniard hugely appreciates gone so that it can sweep. It also has little issues switching into Stunfisk which is Pawniards most splashable counter(besides monferno) 0 SpA Stunfisk Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Regice: 45-54 (14.9 - 17.9%) -- possible 6HKO it can have trouble with some paralysis though. Pawniard can threaten stuff like Cryogonal, Grumpig, Clefairy, and Metang. All of which are fantastic checks to RP Regice. The core may be weak to fires (monferno pretty much) and a little slow, but this can all be fixed by adding some speed control and a monferno check later on in the team.

Floatzel

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Veil
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Beam
- Frustration
- Aqua Jet

Regice really struggles to break efficiently through opposing specially bulky mons such as Grumpig, Chinchou and Seaking so it is important to pair it with a mon that breaks down these checks. Floatzel is a good partner due to being able to hit these mons that might also want to come in on Floatzel, thinking it may be able to tank some hits. Chinchou and Seaking are hit hard by Frustration, while Grumpig must switch out to not be KOed by Waterfall and it cannot reliably switch in to Floatzel if it is not the special set. Additionally Floatzel offensively checks mons such as Monferno and Rapidash which check Regice due to typing and faster speed. In turn, Regice can deal with some of the electrics with its natural bulk that can threaten Floatzel such as Rotom-F (even though it does not like being pivotted on by Volt Switch). It can also beat annoying grass mons such as Tangela, Roselia and Quilladin for Floatzel.

This thing can come in pokemon that threaten out regice such as stoutland, monferno, ursaring, and then proceed to calm mind. After it gets a calm mind off it can wall brake the pokemon that comes in such as floatzil, and if they switch in a grass type, you can switch back to regice and proceed to spam ice beam

While Regice benefits greatly from some nice wall punchers, I decided to go with a more support mon. Therefore, I couldn't think of a better partner than Vullaby. Regice loaths entry hazards and hard hitting physical atkers like monferno and stoutland. This is where vullaby comes in, he is one of the best defoggers in the tier that can help keep those hazards away and also sponge the physical hitting moves that Regice hates. Moreover, regice helps vullaby by eating up those ice and electric types attacks aimed at him.The set is pretty standard so I don't think I need to explain it. Cheers.

Vullaby (F) @ Eviolite

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball/Focus Blast
- Dazzling Gleam

Nasty Plot Mr. Mime is a great partner for Regice because it can take out and weaken Pokemon that Regice struggles to muscle past. Examples of these include Pokemon such as Grumpig, Metang and Audino all of which stop Regice from sweeping. Mr. Mime is also good at checking Monferno, a mon Regice really doesn't like either.

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

SubWisp Rotom-Frost Is a fine partner for RP regice because of it's ability to weaken common switch ins like grumpig, metang or monferno with WoW or a thunderbolt under a sub.
It also forces chinchou to either volt switch out expecting a switch or use rest because it can't break the sub with a scald and you'll burn it in the process as well!
you also burn seaking which is really nice in the get down(200+ Atk burned Seaking Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-F: 51-60 (21.1 - 24.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery but it also has facade for this)
So when RP regice struggles to break bulky teams...this rotom haves fun with it.

I got False. to break the tie, so Slowbroth wins again this week with his Floatzel submission, and the runner-up is iRebel with his Pawniard submission! Congratulations to them and archived.

So far, all of the cores have been offensive, so I'd like to do a defensive one this week! I'm choosing one of my favorite Pokemon to use on Defensive cores in this meta, Mawile! This mon is a great check to popular physical wallbreakers in the metagame such as Stoutland, Muk and Leafeon. It's also a great stealth rock setter. However, it certainly needs something to take special hits for it, and it struggles with Fire- and Ground-types. Who will you pair with Defensive Mawile?

Mawile @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Baton Pass / Knock Off
- Iron Head / Play Rough
- Swords Dance / Toxic

Submissions for partners end Thursday.

Nominating Audino

Audino @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Knock Off
- Encore

"It certainly needs something to take special hits"; what better mon than Audino? Maybe Muk, but pairing Mawile with a Wish Passer is invaluable for something that lacks reliable recovery but repeatedly checks some of the tiers scariest attackers in Stoutland and Leafeon. Fairly straightforward core that's able to check a significant portion of the tier.

Standard Defensive Vibrava

Vibrava @ Eviolite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD or 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Earthquake
- U-Turn

So Vibrava is a nice switch-in to mons that would threaten defensive Mawile such as Golem, Stunfisk, Camerupt, Monferno (or other fires like Rapidash or Ninetales). In turn, Mawile checks wallbreakers that beat Vibrava like Band Leaf or Band Stout as 5gen mentioned above. What this core has is the ability to gain momentum: Mawile can Baton Pass, while Vibrava can U-Turn. As a result the combination of these two mons won't be costing momentum anytime soon.

Of course this core doesn't really check waters or electrics too well, but of course you'd have teammates to deal with them. The nice thing about Vibrava is that it can be customized to be PhysDef or SpDef even though the SpDef has fallen out of popularity lately. So, depending on the team, Vibrava can be EVed to deal with certain threats. (Just a thought that popped into my mind, Mawile+Vibrava+Chinchou seems like it has perfect synergy typing wise; looks kinda interesting)

LordST

Stoutland @ Choice Band
Ability: Scrappy
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Frustration
- Facade
- Superpower
- Crunch

Stout is a great pairing with SD pass Mawile. +2 Stoutland is stupidly powerful and impossible to switch in to. The core gives decent role compression as well as it provides a normal resist, rocks setter, and a stallbreaker. This set can also be used with a Choice Scarf to clean but I prefer this core on some kind of normal spam team with a Scarf Dodrio as Stoutland will break most normal resists and makes Dodrio's job very easy.

Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast

Sub Calm Mind Grumpig is a great partner for Mawile as it can lure in or just set up on Probopass which Mawile fears getting trapped from, it can also lure Pokemon like Pawniard and Cacturne who Mawile also struggles with. Grumpig can check Fire Types that Mawile hates like SD Monferno or Simisear. Vice versa Mawile helps out Grumpig a lot by setting up Stealth Rock to weaken Grumpig's checks and Toxicing Pokemon to allow for easier Set-up. On top of this Mawile switches in on a lot of Grumpig's checks like Stoutland, Leafeon and Dodrio.

Defensive Prinplup

Prinplup @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Defog
- Toxic
- Yawn/Signal Beam/Stealth Rock
Prinplup was the chosen partner as Mawile typically struggles switching into ground types and fire types. Prinplup helps by switching in to non-wild charge Rapidash variants/Golem/Monferno/Etc. Mawile also alleviates pressure of Prinplup by switching into Stoutland and if Mawile runs Stealth Rocks then it free's up a moveslot for Prinplup. This core basically allows for a lot of useful role compression.

Altaria @ Yache Berry
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Roost

Altaria and Mawile have great defensive synergy and Mawile can help remove troublesome fairies with Iron Head. Mawile can also pass SDs to Altaria, which gets really scary with just one Dragon Dance (at +3 attack.) Altaria can also stomach attacks from Electric types that scare Mawile.

HotFuzzBall

fuzzy-chan \(ㆁヮㆁ✿)
is an Artist

Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn

Pelipper and Mawile both have great defensive synergy with each other. On one hand, Pelipper is a great check to common Fire, Steel and Ground types such as Monferno, no WC Rapidash, Camerupt, Pawniard, Vibrava, etc. On another hand, Mawile is able to switch on powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland, Leafeon, and Dodrio effectively and potetially get a free Knock Off on an incoming switch, which alleviates pressure from Pelipper. This core also provides momentum for the rest of the team through U-Turn and Baton Pass.

This core still struggles against Electric types, specifically Stunfisk since it checks both Mawile and Pelipper. Rock types like Golem and Probopass can pose a threat too since Pelipper cannot OHKO them and they threaten both mons with STAB or coverage moves. But that's why it's a team of 6 and not 2~
