Rate of the Week
This is a project that looks to bring quality individual rates into the spotlight and recognise the hard work of unbadged raters.
  • Each week, official Team Raters will be paying close attention to the RMT forum and reading the rates posted in their respective tiers. They will then shortlist a few which will be in contention for the Rate of the Week award.
  • From the pool of shortlisted rates, one will be chosen which most exemplifies the qualities of an excellent rate. That rater will be the winner for that particular tier.
  • A post will be made by an official TR who specialises in that tier, explaining how and why the particular rate won. This will allow aspiring raters to gain an idea of what constitutes high-quality rates, and hopefully incorporate those aspects into their own rates.
  • There can be multiple winners every week - ideally one from OU and a couple from other tiers depending on the quality of the rates posted. We hope that in this way we can expand rating activity in less popular tiers, while maintaining a weekly OU winner.
  • Official Team Raters are eligible to win, but unbadged raters will have priority since they are the main focus of this project.
So what's in it for the winners? They will earn a place in the Hall of Fame, which will be kept in the OP of every thread, and will earn more consideration for the Ladybug
and Team Rater
badges. Also, after gaining three places in the Hall of Fame, a rater will be eligible to earn voice status in the RMT room on PS on the condition that they've shown an interest in getting involved.

We hope that this project will encourage people to put more effort into their rates and become better and more experienced raters, which will consequently increase the quality as well as the quantity of rates in the forum.

The winner for this week is Gross Sweep, due to an excellent and well formatted rate. He starts off by noting the fact that the team has 5 members, and accurately identifying the team's weakness to offensive Ground-types, and noticed its lack of a reliable bulky Steel-type, as well as its lack of hazard removal, while containing a Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y, which dislikes Stealth Rock.

Gross's first suggestion adds a bulky Steel-type in the form of Ferrothorn over Tangrowth, which also frees up the Stealth Rock slot , while maintaining a defensive Grass-type. His next suggestion takes advantage of the fact that the team has space for another Pokemon, and adds Mew which provides a lot of defensive utility by helping check offensive grounds and Mega Medicham, while providing hazard removal for Mega Charizard Y. He then recommends a Scarf Tapu Lele over Shift Gear Magearna, which increases the team's revenge killing abilities outside of Sandstorm. Tapu Lele also provides Psychic Terrain support, to shield Excadrill from pesky priority moves such as Ash Greninja's Water Shuriken. Gross also notes that the loss of Magearna's cleaning ability would not have a large effect upon the team , due to Tapu Lele's ability to act as a cleaner itself, with Psychic Terrain boosted attacks.

Gross' next suggestion is to run a Choice Banded Tyranitar, which his initial change of Stealth Rock on Ferrothorn made possible, while replacing the empty Stealth Rock slot with Pursuit. This change also increased the team's wallbreaking abilities, and gives Mega Charizard Y Pursuit support. He then takes advantage of the team's lack of a Z Move to run Steelium Z on Excadrill, and switch out Poison Jab for Swords Dance. Swords Dance allows Excadrill to function as a cleaner, while the loss of Poison Jab does not impact Excadrill's coverage much, especially with the addition of a nuke in Corkscrew Crash.

Congratulations to Gross Sweep , and he has earnt a spot in the Hall of Fame for this rate.
