[OVERVIEW]

Samurott holds a niche in NU as a strong offensive Water-type with excellent physical and special coverage moves like Megahorn, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot. These moves make it highly unpredictable, and this, supported by its above-average attacking stats, gives Samurott the ability to break balanced teams well and allows it to beat common Water-resistant Pokemon effectively. Samurott is also a very solid late-game cleaner after a Swords Dance boost, which also comes with significant breaking power. Samurott’s decent natural bulk allows it to switch in and set up on some neutral attacks and attacks from weaker support Pokemon such as Steelix and Slowbro. However, below-average Speed causes Samurott to be offensively pressured easily and leaves it heavily reliant on Aqua Jet. Despite its solid uninvested bulk, Samurott has no recovery and little defensive value, so it is unable to switch in to many Pokemon.

Moves
========

Swords Dance boosts Samurott's Attack, giving it massive power and allowing it to sweep. Liquidation is its best physical STAB move, and it also comes with a useful 20% chance to lower a foe's Defense. Aqua Jet mitigates Samurott's middling Speed, giving it a way to beat Pokemon faster than it, like Houndoom and Delphox, and also allows it to clean faster teams that are weakened. Megahorn provides the best neutral coverage, hitting Grass-types and bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Vileplume, and Seismitoad for big damage.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack investment optimizes Samurott's offensive prowess, and maximum Speed EVs let it outspeed most of the defensive Pokemon in the tier as well as some offensive threats such as Emboar and Vanilluxe. A Jolly nature is preferred, as it allows Samurott to outpace Modest Vanilluxe as well as neutral-natured max Speed base 80 Pokemon. An Adamant nature can also be used to boost the power of Aqua Jet, making Samurott a more reliable cleaner, but the Speed tier granted by Jolly is much too important because it allows Samurott to hit Choice Specs Vanilluxe before it can move and potentially OHKO Samurott. Life Orb gives all of Samurott's attacks a notable boost in power, upping its breaking ability and cleaning prowess. Torrent is the preferred ability, as Samurott shouldn't be tanking hits, and as such does not benefit from for the critical hit immunity provided by Shell Armor. Torrent also has the ability to make Samurott's STAB moves a force to be reckoned with when its HP is low, giving Samurott an even better ability to clean up teams. Life Orb also synergizes well with Torrent to this end. Lum Berry can be used as an item instead to give Samurott a one-time reprieve from status, which is especially useful against burn.

Usage Tips
========

Set up on foes such as Rhydon and Emboar that are afraid of Samurott's STAB attacks and as such are likely to switch out. The most reliable defensive answers to Samurott such as Seismitoad and Vileplume are often able to take a +2 Megahorn; make sure they are weakened before attempting a sweep. Likewise, quite a few faster threats, such as Virizion, Whimsicott, and Sceptile, are capable of taking a +2 Aqua Jet and then OHKOing Samurott in return. These Pokemon should also be removed or weakened before attempting a sweep. Samurott's above-average natural bulk often allows it to take a decently strong neutral hit such as Choice Scarf Braviary's Brave Bird. Use situations such as this as an opportunity to set up Swords Dance. Samurott's bulk also allows it to get into Torrent range more reliably, so it is wise to pick and choose what attacks to take to get Samurott below 33% HP. However, this tactic should be reserved as more of a last resort, as while it can have great rewards, it is also quite risky, as it leaves Samurott very vulnerable.

Team Options
========

Checks to offensive Grass-types, like Golbat and Druddigon, are essential, as Grass-types resist Aqua Jet and as such are able to stop Samurott's sweep cold and threaten to OHKO it in return. Wallbreakers such as Emboar and Vikavolt that can switch into Grass- and Electric-type threats and use them to punch holes in the opposing team early in the match are useful to give Samurott an easier clean-up job. Teammates that check offensive Electric-types, like Guzzlord and Rotom-C, are also recommended to take pressure off of Samurott. Pokemon that take advantage of bulky Water-types, such as Sceptile and Whimsicott, make for good partners, as they enjoy Samurott's ability to lure in Pokemon they can take advantage of. As Samurott's bulk isn't great enough to switch into hits repeatedly, U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Rotom-C and Whimsicott that allow it into the field make for good partners. Pokemon that can draw in bulky Rock- and Ground-types, such as Dodrio and Scyther, make for good teammates. Braviary, Scyther, and Cinccino are especially notable in this role, as they also have U-turn to bring Samurott onto the field safely.

[SET]

name: Special Wallbreaker
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Grass Knot
move 4: Aqua Jet / Taunt
item: Life Orb
ability: Torrent
nature: Rash / Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========

Hydro Pump is a strong STAB move capable of OHKOing or 2HKOing a large portion of the tier. Ice Beam smashes through Grass- and Dragon-types that resist Hydro Pump, such as Guzzlord and Vileplume. Grass Knot breaks through bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Poliwrath that resist Water- and Ice-type attacks. Aqua Jet allows Samurott to pick off weakened faster threats and offensively check faster Pokemon weak to Water such as Delphox and Houndoom. Taunt lets Samurott reliably beat Vaporeon and Slowbro one-on-one and can also potentially prevent Samurott from being setup fodder to Pokemon such as Bulk Up Braviary and Calm Mind Mega Audino. Megahorn is an option in the last slot to smack Slowking and Guzzlord harder than Samurott's other options.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack investment with a Rash nature maximizes Samurott's offensive prowess while simultaneously not compromising the power of Aqua Jet. A Modest nature can be used instead if running Taunt. Maximum Speed investment allows Samurott to outpace all of the defensive Pokemon in the tier, as well as get the jump on threats such as Emboar. Life Orb is used to give the most power without locking Samurott into a move, allowing it to utilize its expansive coverage effectively. Torrent is the preferred ability, as it synergizes well with Life Orb by giving Samurott a large boost in power after repeated rounds of recoil.

Usage Tips
========

This set performs well early-game, breaking down walls with its strong STAB move and expansive coverage moves. Use Hydro Pump liberally, as it is quite powerful and has few reliable switch-ins. Additionally, thanks to Samurott's high Special Attack, predicting switches into Water-resistant Pokemon isn't often required, as they often are KOed by Hydro Pump followed by an appropriate coverage move. Note that some Water-resistant Pokemon, however, are not quite as susceptible to Samurott's coverage—for example, Guzzlord is not KOed by Hydro Pump + Ice Beam, giving it a chance to retaliate. Samurott's above-average bulk often allows it to take a moderately strong neutral hit in a pinch, so use that to your advantage. As it is hard to guess all of Samurott's moves before they are used because it is so versatile, it can bluff having an attack and threaten out Pokemon before it has revealed all of its moveslots or surprise a foe with a previously unrevealed move—for example, Samurott can use the threat of Aqua Jet to force out faster Fire-types even if it isn't running it.

Team Options
========

Partners that appreciate bulky Rock- and Ground-types out of the equation, such as Vivillon and Braviary, enjoy Samurott being able to OHKO them. As Samurott's bulk isn't great enough to switch into hits repeatedly, U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Rotom-C and Whimsicott that allow it onto the field make for good partners. Pokemon that can draw in bulky Rock- and Ground-types, such as Dodrio and Scyther, make for good teammates as they bring in Samurott's prime targets; Braviary, Scyther, and Cinccino are especially notable in this role, as they can lure in bulky Rock- and Ground- types and also have U-turn to bring Samurott onto the field safely. Teammates such as Guzzlord and Garbodor that can take care of faster Grass-types that Samurott is weak to are able to switch into offensive pressure aimed at Samurott. Similarly, Electric-type checks like Steelix and Virizion can switch into Samurott's other weakness. Partners such as Virizion, Sneasel, and Choice Scarf Delphox that can clean up weakened teams enjoy Samurott breaking through walls for them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============

Buginium Z is an option on the Swords Dance set to give Samurott access to a devastatingly powerful Savage Spin-Out, which can reliably OHKO Slowbro and do major damage to Vaporeon and Seismitoad at +2 without the chance of missing—however, Life Orb-boosted Megahorn does this job just as well and also provides a boost to Samurott's Water-type moves. Knock Off on the Swords Dance set is the only way that Samurott can hit Jellicent for notable damage, but this makes Samurott notably weaker versus all other Water-resistant targets. Knock Off also isn't always effective on Jellicent, as it commonly runs Colbur Berry. Rindo Berry on the Swords Dance set allows Samurott to weaken the impact of a Grass-type move, which can be useful given the ubiquity of Grass-type Pokemon in the tier, and lets Samurott KO faster threats with Megahorn, allowing it to continue a sweep. However, powerful Grass-types such as Choice Specs Sceptile and Rotom-C can still OHKO Samurott despite the damage reduction, which mitigates the effectiveness of the item. Wacan Berry can also be used on the Swords Dance set for similar reasons, but the only relevant faster Electric-type is Rotom-C, which has Grass-type STAB moves to hit Samurott with anyway. Superpower is an option on the Swords Dance set to smack Ferroseed harder than anything else Samurott has but is often not worth it due to Ferroseed’s low usage, and Superpower also makes Samurott weaker versus the majority of Water-type resistant Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Grass- and Electric-types**: One of the best ways to answer Samurott is with offensive pressure from Pokemon such as Rotom-C, Whimsicott, and Sceptile, as it has middling Speed and not enough bulk to survive most super effective hits. Offensive Grass-types are especially threatening, as they are unlikely to be threatened by Aqua Jet.

**Bulky Water-resistant Pokemon**: Despite Samurott's expansive coverage, a few bulky Water-resistant and immune Pokemon such as Druddigon, Vileplume, and Vaporeon are able take a hit from Samurott and retaliate with a status move to cripple it or, in the case of Grass-types, KO it in return with a STAB move. Jellicent is particularly notable, as it switches into all of Samurott's attacks with ease bar a well-timed Grass Knot. Toxicroak is also noteworthy, as it only fears Ice Beam and can use Samurott as setup fodder. It is worth noting, however, that answers to one set often do not answer the other; for example, Vaporeon is a reliable answer to special sets lacking Taunt but is setup fodder for Swords Dance sets.

**Offensive Pressure**: Despite its solid bulk, Samurott's average Speed leaves it vulnerable to being revenge killed by strong faster attackers such as Hitmonlee, Vanilluxe, and Sigilyph that either have the super effective coverage or sheer power to OHKO it.

Yo, imo Megahorn, and possible Knock Off should definitely be mentioned in the special attacker, as they make it so that you aren't hard walled by two of the most important water types in the tier (Slowking/Slowbro), and can, at the very least, force them to waste recovery PP, and at best, prevent them from walling you.

252+ SpA Life Orb Samurott Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 24 SpD Slowbro: 257-304 (65.2 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

doesn't matter for bro

i think knock is probably better than mh as it still allows you to ko king with knock -> gk or two gks later on, which is why i wanted to put it in moves or slash it in last slot, but i discussed it in discord and qc disagreed. ig we'll see what they say with an official check :0

For both sets' Usage Tips, when you talk about Samurott being bulky enough to take one decently strong hit from offensive Pokemon, also mention Torrent. Samurott's especially dangerous if you can wisely choose which attack to tank and retaliate against.

I would also put more detail into the different playstyles and teammates of the two sets. Special Otter is primarily meant for early-game wallbreaking and matches well with cleaners, while SD Otter matches well with other wallbreakers to weaken teams so it can sweep late-game.

Remove Slowbro from Checks and Counters, it's a bad check to both sets. Add a section for Toxicroak too.

implemented
no you didn't :/

Overview
- name some examples of the coverage special and physical Samurott runs
- name some of the other offensive water-types in the tier (Barbaracle, Vaporeon)
- you didn't implement all of Blast's changes yet, there's still no mention of Torrent in the overview
- mention that it's one of the few water-types that can easily lure in most water-type checks in Slowbro, Vileplume, etc.
- this entire section needs to be a little more clear. 'below average bulk so it cannot switch in often' isn't even logical for new readers. expand this a bit, name some examples, etc. analyses aren't meant to be vague.

Remove all mentions of Drapion, Machamp, Meloetta, and Quagsire, and replace them with appropiate Pokemon
Physical Samurott is indefinitely better than Special. Change them so Physical comes before Special.
also, this is the set that should be used for Physical:

Samurott @ Buginium Z
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Megahorn
- Aqua Jet

Physical
- mention Megahorn targets
- Waterfall only has a 20% chance to flinch, not 30
- name some pokemon Aqua Jet can be useful against
- name some more notable targets instead of Incineroar, for Pokemon that Samurott can set up on
- remove mentions of Rindo Berry, it simply isn't useful. Specs Sceptile and Rotom-Mow still OHKO it through Rindo
- move the line about Torrent up to about the 3rd / 4th line, it's quite important and can come in clutch often
- mention more relevant stealth rock users than Uxie

Special

- mention some examples of Pokemon that resist Hydro Pump and are hit by Ice Beam hard
- remove any mention of Splash Plate, it's really bad on a set that works best by eliminating water-type checks with coverage moves
- mention something about bluffing not having specific moves and/or revealing them later in the game, like Grass Knot or Aqua Jet

Checks and Counters needs to be expanded. There's plenty of Pokemon that check either one or both Samurott sets that aren't mentioned. Update this and i'll look at this again.

points in bold
[OVERVIEW]

- Being one of very few offensive Water-types, alongside Vaporeon and Barbaracle, gives it a notable niche BRIP ALERT. We also have a lot of offensive waters idk what you mean. Omastar, Slowbrothers, Vaporeon, Clawitzer, etc. I would just remove this point
- Excellent coverage moves on both the special and physical side, such as Ice Beam, Grass Knot, and Megahorn, allow it to break balanced teams well and allows it to lure in common Water resistant Pokemon effectively
- High base power moves coupled with above average attacking stats give it great damage output this is kind of just fluff. like it's a point you can couple with other points and have a better impact.
- Decent natural bulk allows it to switch in to some neutral attacks and attacks (or set up on) from weaker support Pokemon, such as those from Steelix or Slowbro
- Below average speed cause it to be offensively pressured easily make sure you mention here it's dependent on aqua jet
- Despite its solid uninvested bulk, it has no recovery and little defensive value, so it is unable to switch in to many Pokemon

shift the focus of the overview away from aoa please. it's pretty obvious you weren't thinking of sd while making it lol

also I would like to see the points about its offensive pressure fleshed out. being a diverse threat that has all of its coverage options while being a dope physical with all of its options there needs to be emphasized and I think you're not capitalizing enough on it.

I've seen you go back and forth with qc on the topic, but I think the main set should be jolly with life orb now. it has more impact than bug z. bug z should probably be in oo.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Swords Dance boosts Samurott's attack, giving it massive power and allowing it to sweep.
- Waterfall is its best physical STAB move that comes with a useful 20% flinch chance.
- Aqua Jet mitigates Samurott's middling speed, giving it a way to beat Pokemon faster than it, like Houndoom and Delphox, and also allows it to clean faster teams that are weakened.
- Megahorn provides the best neutral coverage, hitting Grass-types and bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Vileplume, and Seismitoad for big damage.

Set Details
========

- Maximum Attack optimizes Samurott's offensive prowess, and maximum Speed lets it outspeed most of the defensive Pokemon in the tier as well as some offensive threats such as Emboar and unboosted Barbaracle.
- Adamant nature is preferred as it increases the reliability of Aqua Jet, and the Speed tier provided by Jolly doesn't outpace anything particularly relevant.
- Buginium Z gives Samurott access to a devastatingly powerful Savage Spin-Out that allows it to break most Water-type resistant Pokemon.
- Torrent is the preferred ability as Samurott doesn't plan on tanking hits, and as such does not really care for the crit immunity of Shell Armor. Torrent also has the ability to make Samurott's STAB a force to be reckoned with, giving Samurott even better ability to clean up teams.
- Lum Berry can be used as an item instead to give Samurott a one-time reprieve from status, which is especially useful against Burn.
- Splash Plate could be used as an item as it provides a decent power boost, but it comes at the cost of valuable defensive utility or a powerful coverage move. imo this is just outclassed compared to lorb. move it to oo if you want to include it.

don't forget to update this info for the change to jolly lo
Usage Tips
========

- This set uses Samurott as a late game cleaner after the opposition has been weakened. like I get what you're saying, but you kind of have two points about this, the other one being your third point, and I think the third point does it better.
- Set up on foes such as Rhydon and Emboar that are afraid of Samurott's STAB and as such are likely to switch out.
- The most reliable defensive answers to Samurott such as Slowbro and Vileplume are often able to take a +2 Megahorn; make sure they are weakened before attempting a sweep. However, Slowbro is notably OHKOed by +2 Savage Spin-Out.
- Samurott's above average natural bulk often allows it to take a decently strong neutral hit, such as (what attack, u-turn? superpower? air slash??) from Choice Scarf Braviary. Use this as an opportunity to set up Swords Dance. Samurott's bulk also allows it to get into Torrent range more reliably, so it is wise to pick and choose what attacks to take to get below 33% HP. maybe emphasize that this should only be used as a last resort

You have a point about whittling its defensive checks, but not about how it should handle its offensive checks.

Team Options
========

- Entry hazard support from teammates such as Froslass and Steelix is pivotal to Samurott's success, as they weaken the opposition more quickly which makes sweeping easier. unless this helps secure any extremely significant KOes, don't include this point. entry hazard support helps every pokemon it's why stealth rock is mandated on every team.
- Wallbreakers such as Emboar, Vikavolt, and Houndoom can punch holes in the opposing team early in the match, giving Samurott an easier clean-up job. maybe try and be a little more specific in this point? like, I get where you're going with it, but I would prefer you mention stuff that lures samurott's checks, switches into them and wallbreak, etc and then list some examples.
-Checks to offensive Grass-types like Golbat and Druddigon are essential, as they resist Aqua Jet and as such are able to stop Samurott's sweep cold and threaten it with an OHKO in return.
- Teammates that check offensive Electric-types, like Cryogonal and Rotom-Cut I would prefer if you didn't list cryogonal here considering the main set on the analysis is not your bulky set. you're better off listing stuff that discourages volt switchers like maybe toge/guzz, are also recommended to take pressure off of Samurott.
- Pokemon that take advantage of bulky Water-types, such as Sceptile and Lilligant, make for good partners as they enjoy Samurott bringing in Pokemon they can use as free turns.

- Ice Beam smashes through Grass- and Dragon-types that resist Hydro Pump, such as Guzzlord and Vileplume.
- Grass Knot breaks through bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Poliwrath that resist the combination of Water + Ice
- Aqua Jet allows Samurott to pick off weakened faster threats and offensively check faster Pokemon weak to Water maybe mention some examples here
- Taunt lets Samurott reliably beat Vaporeon, and Slowbro 1v1, and can also potentially prevent Samurott from being setup bait to Pokemon such as Bulk Up Braviary and Calm Mind Mega Audino.

mention megahorn here. it hits guzz and slowking
Set Details
========

- Maximum Special Attack with a Rash nature maximizes Samurott's specially offensive prowess while simultaneously not compromising the power of Aqua Jet. Modest nature can be used instead if running Taunt.
- Naughty or Timid natures could be used to give Samurott a bit of a Speed boost, but the extra speed is often not worth the drop in power as it doesn't outspeed anything relevant with the extra Speed don't think this is relevant for aoa
- Maximum Speed allows Samurott to outpace all of the defensive Pokemon in the tier, as well as get the jump on threats such as Emboar, and unboosted Barbaracle.
- Life Orb is used as it gives the most power without locking Samurott into a move, allowing it to utilize its expansive coverage effectively.
- Torrent is the preferred ability, as it synergizes well with Life Orb by giving Samurott a large boost in power after repeated rounds of recoil.

Usage Tips
========

- This set performs well in the early game, breaking down walls with its strong STAB and expansive coverage moves.
- Use Hydro Pump liberally, as it is quite powerful and has few reliable switchins
- Utilize Samurott's great coverage on predicted switches to remove Water resistant Pokemon, allowing for it to break more holes in the opposition with its STAB uh this is kind of vague especially after it follows the point before encouraging players to use hydro pump the most.
- Samurott's above average bulk often allows it to take a moderately strong neutral hit in a pinch, so use that to your advantage
- As it is hard to guess all of Samurott's moves before they are used because it is so versatile, it can bluff having an attack and threaten out Pokemon before it has revealed all of its moveslots or surprise an opponent with a previously unrevealed move maybe give a quick example here so this tip is easier to understand

Team Options
========

- Partners that appreciate bulky Rock- and Ground-types out of the equation, such as Vivillon and Braviary, enjoy Samurott being able to OHKO them.
- As Samurott's bulk isn't great enough to switch into hits repeatedly, U-turn or Volt Switch users that allow it into the field make for good partners. Pokemon that draw in bulky Rock- and Ground- types and can U-turn on them such as Golbat and Braviary are especially notable, as they bring in Samurott's prime targets. I think you should re-focus the purpose of this point to say "Pokemon that incentivize rock- and ground-types to switch in are good partners cause samu fucks em. brav and bat specifically are cool cause they can u-turn on them on the switch." the purpose of a team option point about momentum should never be "it brings the pokemon in safely" because it's redundant to say that. every pokemon enjoys being brought in safely vs pokemon it has a favorable matchup against, so you have to make mentions of pokemon it synergizes well with and then you can make u-turn/vs a supplementary point,
- Teammates to take care of faster Grass-types that Samurott is weak to, such as Guzzlord and Garbodor, are able to switch into offensive pressure aimed at Samurott.
- Similarly, Electric-type checks like Steelix and Virizion can switch into Samurott's other weakness.
- Entry hazard support from teammates such as Rhydon and Garbodor is appreciated, as they aid Samurott in its wallbreaking job. redundant point
- Partners such as Virizion, Sneasel, and Choice Scarf Delphox that can clean up weakened teams enjoy Samurott breaking through walls for them.

Other Options
=============

-you're Knock Off on the Swords Dance set is the only way that Samurott can hit Jellicent for notable damage, but makes Samurott notably weaker versus all other Water-type resistant targets. It also isn't always effective even on Jellicent, as it commonly runs Colbur Berry.
- Rindo Berry on the Swords Dance set allows Samurott to weaken the impact of a Grass-type move aimed at it, which can be useful given the ubiquity of Grass-type Pokemon in the tier and lets Samurott KO faster threats with Megahorn, allowing it to continue a sweep. However, powerful Grass-types such as Choice Specs Sceptile and Rotom-Mow can still OHKO Samurott despite the damage reduction, which mitigates the effectiveness of the item.
- Wacan Berry can also be used on the Swords Dance set for similar reasons, but the only relevant faster Electric-type is Rotom-Mow, which has Grass STAB to hit Samurott with anyways.
- Superpower is an option on the Swords Dance set to smack Ferroseed harder than anything else Samurott has, but also makes Samurott weaker versus the majority of Water-type resistant Pokemon.
- Knock Off on the special set can be used to remove items such as Leftovers from potential switchins, leaving them more susceptible to Samurott or its teammates later on in the battle. It has particularly notable use in removing Assault Vest from Slowking, allowing it to be 2HKOed by Grass Knot. imo this is just worse than megahorn so remove it

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Grass- and Electric-types**: One of the best ways to answer Samurott is with offensive pressure from Pokemon such as Rotom-Cut, Whimsicott, and Sceptile, as it has middling Speed and not enough bulk to survive most super effective hits. Offensive Grass-types are especially threatening as they are unlikely to be threatened by Aqua Jet.

**Bulky Water-type Resists**: Despite its expansive coverage, a few bulky Water-type resistant or immune Pokemon such as Druddigon, Vileplume and Vaporeon are able take a hit from Samurott and retaliate with a status effect, crippling it, or, in the case of Grass-types, KO it in return. Jellicent is particularly notable as it switches into all of Samurott's attacks with ease bar a well-timed Grass Knot. Toxicroak is also noteworthy, as it only fears Ice Beam from either Samurott set and uses it as setup bait. It is worth noting, however, that answers to one set often do not answer the other; for example, Vaporeon is a reliable answer to special sets lacking Taunt, but acts as setup fodder for Swords Dance sets.

**Offensive Pressure**: Despite its solid bulk, Samurott's average Speed leaves it able to be revenged by strong faster attackers such as Hitmonlee, Vanilluxe, or Sigilyph that either have super effective coverage or the sheer power to OHKO it.

[OVERVIEW]

Samurott holds a niche in NU as a strong offensive Water-type with excellent coverage moves on both the physical and special side like Megahorn, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot. These moves make it highly unpredictable, and this, (AC) supported by its above average attacking stats, (AC) gives Samurott the ability to break balanced teams well and allows it to beat common Water-resistant Pokemon effectively. Samurott is also a very solid late-game (AH) cleaner after a Swords Dance boost, which also comes with significant breaking power. Samurott’s decent natural bulk allows it to switch in and set up on some neutral attacks and attacks from weaker support Pokemon, such as those from Steelix or and Slowbro. However, below-average (AH) Speed causes it Samurott to be offensively pressured easily and leaves it heavily reliant on Aqua Jet. Despite its solid uninvested bulk, it Samurott has no recovery and little defensive value, so it is unable to switch into many Pokemon.

Swords Dance boosts Samurott's Attack, giving it massive power and allowing it to sweep. Waterfall is its best physical STAB move, and it also comes with a useful 20% flinch chance.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack EV investment optimizes Samurott's offensive prowess, and maximum Speed EVs lets it outspeed most of the defensive Pokemon in the tier as well as some offensive threats such as Emboar and Vanilluxe. A Jolly nature is preferred, as it allows Samurott to outpace Modest Vanilluxe as well as neutral-natured max Speed base 80 Pokemon. An Adamant nature can also be used to boost the power of Aqua Jet, making Samurott a more reliable cleaner, but the Speed tier is much too important (why?). Life Orb gives all of Samurott's attacks a notable boost in power, upping its Samurott's breaking ability and cleaning prowess. Torrent is the preferred ability, (AC) as Samurott doesn't plan on shouldn't be tanking hits, and as such does not really care for benefit from the critical hit immunity of provided by Shell Armor. Torrent also has the ability to make Samurott's STAB moves a force to be reckoned with when Samurott's HP is low, giving Samurott an even better ability to clean up teams. Life Orb also synergizes well with Torrent to this end. Lum Berry can be used as an item instead to give Samurott a one-time reprieve from status, which is especially useful against (Scald?) burns.

Usage Tips
========

Likewise, quite a few faster threats, such as Virizion, Whimsicott, and Sceptile, (AC) are capable of taking a +2 Aqua Jet and then OHKOing Samurott in return. Pokemon such as these should also be removed or weakened before attempting a sweep. Samurott's above-average (AH) natural bulk often allows it to take a decently strong neutral hit, (RC) such as Choice Scarf Braviary's Brave Bird. Use situations such as this as an opportunity to set up Swords Dance. Samurott's bulk also allows it to get into Torrent range more reliably, so it is wise to pick and choose what attacks to take to get Samurott below 33% HP. However, this tactic should be reserved as more of a last resort, as while it can have great returns, it is also quite risky, (AC) as it leaves Samurott very vulnerable.

Team Options
========

Wallbreakers such as Emboar and Vikavolt that can switch into Grass- and Electric-type threats to Samurott and use them to punch holes in the opposing team early in the match are useful to give Samurott an easier clean-up job. Checks to offensive Grass-types like Golbat and Druddigon are essential, as Grass-types resist Aqua Jet and as such are able to stop Samurott's sweep cold and threaten it with an to OHKO it in return. Teammates that check offensive Electric-types, like Guzzlord and Rotom-Cut, are also recommended to take pressure off of Samurott. Pokemon that take advantage of bulky Water-types, such as Sceptile and Whimsicott, make for good partners, (AC) as they enjoy Samurott bringing's ability to lure in Pokemon they can use as free turns take advantage of. As Samurott's bulk isn't great enough to switch into hits repeatedly, U-turn or Volt Switch users such as Rotom-Mow and Whimsicott that allow it into the field make for good partners. Pokemon that can draw in bulky Rock- and Ground- types, such as Dodrio and Scyther, make for good teammates as they bring in Samurott's prime targets (aren't you just restating what you just said?). Braviary, Scyther, and Cinccino are especially notable in this role, as they bring in bulky Rock- and Ground- types and also have U-turn to bring Samurott onto the field safely against them.

Moves
========

Hydro Pump is a strong STAB move capable of 2HKOing or OHKOing a large portion of the tier. Ice Beam smashes through Grass- and Dragon-types that resist Hydro Pump, such as Guzzlord and Vileplume. Grass Knot breaks through bulky Water-types such as Slowbro, Jellicent, and Poliwrath that resist the combination of Water + Ice. Aqua Jet allows Samurott to pick off weakened faster threats and offensively check faster Pokemon weak to Water such as Delphox and Houndoom. Taunt lets Samurott reliably beat Vaporeon and Slowbro 1v1, one-on-one and can also potentially prevent Samurott from being setup bait fodder to Pokemon such as Bulk Up Braviary and Calm Mind Mega Audino. Megahorn is an option in the last slot to smack Slowking and Guzzlord harder than Samurott's other options.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack EVs with a Rash nature maximizes Samurott's offensive prowess while simultaneously not compromising the power of Aqua Jet. A Modest nature can be used instead if running Taunt. Maximum Speed allows Samurott to outpace all of the defensive Pokemon in the tier, as well as get the jump on threats such as Emboar. Life Orb is used, (AC) as it gives the most power without locking Samurott into a move, allowing it to utilize its expansive coverage effectively. Torrent is the preferred ability, as it synergizes well with Life Orb by giving Samurott a large boost in power after repeated rounds of recoil.

Usage Tips
========

This set performs well in the early-game, breaking down walls with its strong STAB move and expansive coverage moves. Use Hydro Pump liberally, as it is quite powerful and has few reliable switch-ins. Additionally, thanks to Samurott's high power Special Attack, predicting switches into Water-resistant Pokemon isn't often required, as they often are KOed by Hydro Pump followed by an appropriate coverage move. As it is hard to guess all of Samurott's moves before they are used because it is so versatile, it can bluff having an attack and threaten out Pokemon before it has revealed all of its moveslots or surprise an opponent with a previously unrevealed move—for example, Samurott can use the threat of Aqua Jet to force out faster Fire-types even if it isn't running it.

Team Options
========

Partners that appreciate bulky Rock- and Ground-types out of the equation, such as Vivillon and Braviary, enjoy Samurott being able to OHKO them. As Samurott's bulk isn't great enough to switch into hits repeatedly, U-turn or Volt Switch users such as Rotom-Mow and Whimsicott that allow it into the field make for good partners. Pokemon that can draw in bulky Rock- and Ground- types, such as Dodrio and Scyther, make for good teammates, (AC) as they bring in Samurott's prime targets. (RP); (ASC) Braviary, Scyther, and Cinccino are especially notable in this role, as they bring can lure in bulky Rock- and Ground- types and also have U-turn to bring Samurott onto the field safely against them._Teammates to such as Guzzlord and Garbodor that can take care of faster Grass-types that Samurott is weak to, such as Guzzlord and Garbodor, are able useful for their ability to switch into offensive pressure aimed at Samurott.

=============

Buginium Z is an option on the Swords Dance set to give Samurott access to a devastatingly powerful Savage Spin-Out, which is useful to can reliably OHKO Slowbro and do major damage to Vaporeon and Seismitoad at +2 without the chance of missing—however, Life Orb-boosted Megahorn does this job just as well, (RC) and also provides a boost to Samurott's Water-type moves. Knock Off on the Swords Dance set is the only way that Samurott can hit Jellicent for notable damage, but this makes Samurott notably weaker versus all other Water-type resistant targets. Knock Off also isn't always effective on Jellicent, as it commonly runs Colbur Berry. Rindo Berry on the Swords Dance set allows Samurott to weaken the impact of a Grass-type move aimed at it, which can be useful given the ubiquity of Grass-type Pokemon in the tier and lets Samurott KO faster threats with Megahorn, allowing it to continue a sweep. However, powerful Grass-types such as Choice Specs Sceptile and Rotom-Mow can still OHKO Samurott despite the damage reduction, which mitigates the effectiveness of the item. Wacan Berry can also be used on the Swords Dance set for similar reasons, but the only relevant faster Electric-type is Rotom-Mow, which has Grass-type STAB moves to hit Samurott with anyways. Superpower is an option on the Swords Dance set to smack Ferroseed harder than anything else Samurott has, but is often not worth it due to Ferroseed’s low usage, and also makes Samurott weaker versus the majority of Water-type resistant Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Grass- and Electric-types**: One of the best ways to answer Samurott is with offensive pressure from Pokemon such as Rotom-Cut, Whimsicott, and Sceptile, as it has middling Speed and not enough bulk to survive most super effective hits. Offensive Grass-types (like?) are especially threatening, (AC) as they are unlikely to be threatened by Aqua Jet.

**Bulky Water-type Resistsresistant Pokemon**: Despite its Samurott's expansive coverage, a few bulky Water-type resistant or and -immune Pokemon such as Druddigon, Vileplume, (AC) and Vaporeon are able take a hit from Samurott and retaliate with a status effect, crippling it, or, in the case of Grass-types, KO it in return. Jellicent is particularly notable as it switches into all of Samurott's attacks with ease bar a well-timed Grass Knot. Toxicroak is also noteworthy, as it only fears Ice Beam from either and can use Samurott set and uses it as setup bait fodder. It is worth noting, however, that answers to one set often do not answer the other; for example, Vaporeon is a reliable answer to special sets lacking Taunt, but can act as is setup fodder for Swords Dance sets.

**Offensive Pressure**: Despite its solid bulk, Samurott's average Speed leaves it able vulnerable to being revenged killed by strong faster attackers such as Hitmonlee, Vanilluxe, orand Sigilyph that either have the super effective coverage or the sheer power to OHKO it.

[OVERVIEW]

Samurott holds a niche in NU as a strong offensive Water-type with excellent physical and special coverage moves on both the physical and special side (there are no "sides") like Megahorn, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot. Samurott’s Samurott's (curly apostrophe) decent natural bulk allows it to switch in and set up on some neutral attacks and attacks from weaker support Pokemon, such as those from Steelix or and Slowbro. However, below-average (AH) Speed causes it Samurott to be offensively pressured easily and leaves it heavily reliant on Aqua Jet. Despite its solid uninvested bulk, it Samurott has no recovery and little defensive value, so it is unable to switch into many Pokemon.

A Modest nature can be used instead if running Taunt. Maximum Speed investment allows Samurott to outpace all of the defensive Pokemon in the tier, as well as get the jump on threats such as Emboar. Life Orb is used,(RC) as it gives to give the most power without locking Samurott into a move, allowing it to utilize its expansive coverage effectively. Torrent is the preferred ability, as it synergizes well with Life Orb by giving Samurott a large boost in power after repeated rounds of recoil.

Usage Tips
========

This set performs well early-(AH)game, breaking down walls with its strong STAB move and expansive coverage moves. Use Hydro Pump liberally, as it is quite powerful and has few reliable switch-(AH)ins. Samurott's above-(AH)average bulk often allows it to take a moderately strong neutral hit in a pinch, so use that to your advantage.

========

Pokemon that can draw in bulky Rock- and Ground-types, such as Dodrio and Scyther, make for good teammates,(AC) as they bring in Samurott's prime targets; Braviary, Scyther, and Cinccino are especially notable in this role, as they can lure in bulky Rock- and Ground-types and also have U-turn to bring Samurott onto the field safely.

Other Options
=============

Rindo Berry on the Swords Dance set allows Samurott to weaken the impact of a Grass-type move aimed at it, which can be useful given the ubiquity of Grass-type Pokemon in the tier, and lets Samurott KO faster threats with Megahorn, allowing it to continue a sweep.

===================

**Bulky Water-resistant Pokemon**: Despite Samurott's expansive coverage, a few bulky Water-resistant and immune Pokemon such as Druddigon, Vileplume,(AC) and Vaporeon are able take a hit from Samurott and retaliate with a status move to cripple it,(RC) or, in the case of Grass-types, KO it in return with a STAB move. Jellicent is particularly notable,(AC) as it switches into all of Samurott's attacks with ease bar a well-timed Grass Knot. Toxicroak is also noteworthy, as it only fears Ice Beam and can use Samurott as setup fodder. It is worth noting, however, that answers to one set often do not answer the other; for example, Vaporeon is a reliable answer to special sets lacking Taunt,(RC) but is setup fodder for Swords Dance sets.
