Shedinja used PWN! It's Super Effective! - A UU warstory

Hey all this is a warstory I did a while ago but never got around to
posting. It really shows how awesome Shedinja can be, so let’s go!

Ok, so after Laddering UU for an hour or two under the name, I run into ianh992. Now, I hadn’t battled him before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Whatever the case though, I was sure it’d be a fun battle, so let’s get this story started!

My Team in no particular order
Jumpluff (Fluffy)

Shedinja (Gabriel)

Donphan (2Pachederm)

Porygon2 (Windows 7)

Gardevoir (Juliet)

Regice (Bloody Cold)

Battle Log will be in Black
My comments will be in Blue
Chat will be in Red

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause

ianh992 sent out Alakazam (lvl 100 Alakazam ?).
Flareon sent out Fluffy (lvl 100 Jumpluff ?).

Lead Alakazam wasn’t something I was expecting to see. I Do know it is able to outspeed my Jumpluff if he runs timid, but then again if he runs modest, my Jumpluff will be able to outspeed him, sleep him, and U-turn out. I run a Max speed Jolly Jumpluff with Double powder (Sleep and Stun Spore) U-Turn, and Aromatherapy (You never know when it will come handy) with a Focus sash slapped on so it can at least get the sleep. I was confident that I’d outspeed him, and went for the sleep powder.

Alakazam used Substitute.
Alakazam lost 25% of its health.
Alakazam made a substitute!
Fluffy used Sleep Powder.
But it failed!
Alakazam's leftovers restored its health a little!
Alakazam restored 6% of its health.
---

… Or not. Ian puts his Alakazam safely behind a Sub, meaning my double powder strategy is nullified. Well, at least I can U-Turn out to a counter, right?

Alakazam used Encore.
Fluffy got an encore!
Fluffy used Sleep Powder.
But it failed!
Alakazam's leftovers restored its health a little!
Alakazam restored 6% of its health.
---

…Evidently not. Ian decides to render my Cotton ball lead useless with Encore, leaving him free to sweep behind a sub with that gargantuan base 135 Special attack. Predicting a psychic, I have to think: what can take a Huge Special hit?

Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Alakazam used Psychic.
It doesn't affect Gabriel...
Alakazam's leftovers restored its health a little!
Alakazam restored 6% of its health.
---
ianh992: ohh your s****ing me XD

Oh no I’m not ;)
Sheddy comes in to absorb the incoming Psychic, which means unless Zam carries HP Fire (which is quite rare), it’s going to have to switch. I run a Max attack Adamant (What else could you run?) Sheddy with Protect, Will-o-Wisp, Bug bite and Shadow claw. Protect for scouting, Wisp for annoyance, Bug bite for possibly stealing some pinch berries, and Shadow claw for reliable STAB. Knowing he’s going to switch, maybe I can steal a berry.

ianh992 switched in Arcanine (lvl 100 Arcanine ?).
Gabriel used Bug Bite.
It's not very effective...
Arcanine lost 18% of its health.
---
Flareon: :P
ianh992: these things are just annoying :/

Well, now i’ve got rid of Zam (And its sub) I’m faced with an Arcanine, quite possibly carrying Flare Blitz or Crunch. Seeing that my attack wasn’t lowered, I know he’s running Flash Fire. Predicting a Flare Blitz, I switch in my Porygon2 to Trace Flash Fire and absorb the hit.

Flareon switched in Windows 7 (lvl 100 Porygon2).
Windows 7 traced Arcanine's Flash Fire!
Arcanine used Crunch.
Windows 7 lost 21% of its health.
Arcanine lost 10% of its health.
Windows 7's leftovers restored its health a little!
Windows 7 restored 6% of its health.
---

Well, now Porygon2 is in, and Arcanine can’t really do much to it, seeing as Pory can just recover off the damage. He’s going to switch, so I use Discharge to see if I can score a hit on an unrevealed opponent.

ianh992 switched in Sceptile (lvl 100 Sceptile ?).
Windows 7 used Discharge.
It's not very effective...
Sceptile lost 15% of its health.
Windows 7's leftovers restored its health a little!
Windows 7 restored 6% of its health.

Well, not quite the hit I was hoping for, but now it’s revealed another Poke. I’m pretty sure this is a specs Sceptile, most likely carrying Leaf storm and Focus Blast which could potentially be troubling to my team. Wondering if Focus Blast is gonna come, I bring out Sheddy again.

---
Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Sceptile used Leaf Storm.
It doesn't affect Gabriel...
---

Well, I was right about the Leaf storm part. Now he’s locked into an attack that will do nothing to Sheddy, giving me a free turn to do whatever I like with. I decided to see if I can Burn the switch in.

ianh992 switched in Steelix (lvl 100 Steelix ?).
Gabriel used Will-o-wisp.
Gabriel's attack missed!
---

Oh Bugger. If that didn’t miss, I could stall it into Donphan’s KO range. Well, might as well protect to see what’s coming, although it’s quite obviously going to be SR, as he knows Sheddy can’t touch him.

Gabriel used Protect.
Gabriel protected itself!
Steelix used Stone Edge.
Gabriel protected itself!
---

Evidently not, as he tries to go straight for the kill. Well, now he’s using Stone Edge, I might as well bring Donphan in to take the blow.

Flareon switched in 2Pachederm (lvl 100 Donphan ?).
Steelix used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
---

Oh Bloody hell. Now that the rocks are up, I can’t bring sheddy in until I clear them, giving him a free turn. Whatever, Sheddy seems to be walling him quite a bit, so I’ll save it with a rapid spin.

2Pachederm used Rapid Spin.
2Pachederm blew away the pointed stones!
It's not very effective...
Steelix lost 2% of its health.
Steelix used Earthquake.
2Pachederm lost 24% of its health.

Well, now the rocks are gone, I expect him to try and set them back up. On the other hand, he could switch predicting an Earthquake. Hoping he stays in to try and tackle sheddy, I click Earthquake.

---
ianh992 switched in Blastoise (lvl 100 Blastoise ?).
2Pachederm used Earthquake.
Blastoise lost 56% of its health.
Blastoise's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blastoise restored 6% of its health.
---

Well, that was to be expected. However, now I’m threatened with an ice beam or a surf, which will have a good chance at Knocking out Donphan, and I need him so I can keep the field clean of the rocks. Time for a switch. Guess who?

Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Blastoise used Ice Punch.
It doesn't affect Gabriel...
Blastoise's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blastoise restored 6% of its health.
---
ianh992: this is getting on my %$£"! nerves
Flareon: XD

Well, looks like I was right about the ice attack. Sheddy comes in to take the hit, once again giving me a free turn. I click Will-O-Wisp, as it appears to be the best option right now. Something’s gonna get burned.

ianh992 switched in Steelix (lvl 100 Steelix ?).
Gabriel used Will-o-wisp.
Steelix was burned!
Steelix was hurt by its burn!
Steelix lost 12% of its health.
---

That couldn’t of worked better. I can’t kill Steelix quickly, so with that burn wearing him down, I’ll be able to stall him out. Anyway, time to block the incoming stone edge.

Gabriel used Protect.
Gabriel protected itself!
Steelix used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
Steelix was hurt by its burn!
Steelix lost 12% of its health.
---
ianh992: got it now :D
ianh992: leave you die, stay you die xD
Flareon: hmmm.....

How did I not see that coming? Now I have to bring Donphan back in to get the rocks off the field.

ianh992 switched in Sceptile (lvl 100 Sceptile ?).
Flareon switched in 2Pachederm (lvl 100 Donphan ?).
Pointed stones dug into 2Pachederm.
2Pachederm lost 6% of its health.
---
ianh992: bingo ;D

Oh bugger! Now Leaf Storm will Ohko Donphan, meaning Sheddy can’t come back in to wall him! unless…

Flareon switched in Fluffy (lvl 100 Jumpluff ?).
Pointed stones dug into Fluffy.
Fluffy lost 25% of its health.
Sceptile used Leaf Storm.
It's not very effective...
Fluffy lost 31% of its health.
Sceptile's special attack was harshly lowered.
---

My forgotten lead returns to take the 4X resisted Leaf storm, meaning I can sleep him and get Donphan back in to clear the rocks.

ianh992 switched in Blastoise (lvl 100 Blastoise ?).
Fluffy used Sleep Powder.
Fluffy's attack missed!
Blastoise's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blastoise restored 6% of its health.
---

Well, now that Sceptile’s out the way, I can sleep powder, risking a fatal Ice punch.

Fluffy used Sleep Powder.
Blastoise fell asleep!
Blastoise is fast asleep!
Blastoise's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blastoise restored 6% of its health.
---

Alright, well Fluffy’s death fodder at this rate, so lets get her out of there, and bring Donphan back out to clear the rocks.

ianh992 switched in Arcanine (lvl 100 Arcanine ?).
Fluffy used U-turn.
It's not very effective...
Arcanine lost 6% of its health.
Flareon switched in 2Pachederm (lvl 100 Donphan ?).
Pointed stones dug into 2Pachederm.
2Pachederm lost 6% of its health.
---

Arcanine comes back in, presumably to take out Fluffy. Hopefully he’s scared of earthquake and will switch.

Arcanine used Fire Blast.
Arcanine's attack missed!
2Pachederm used Rapid Spin.
2Pachederm blew away the pointed stones!
Arcanine lost 11% of its health.
---

Hax strikes at the best moment possible, giving me a free turn to clear stealth rock. Well now I’m pretty sure that STAB Fire blast will Ohko Donphan due to its poor special defence, so I’ll switch in something that can take the hit.

Flareon switched in Windows 7 (lvl 100 Porygon2).
Windows 7 traced Arcanine's Flash Fire!
Arcanine used Fire Blast.
Windows 7's Flash Fire raised its fire power!
Windows 7's leftovers restored its health a little!
Windows 7 restored 6% of its health.
---
ianh992: ohh come on *crys*

sorry Ian, but I’m not about to show any signs of mercy. Predicting a Steelix switch, I keep porygon in to hit it with a neutral ice beam.

ianh992 switched in Steelix (lvl 100 Steelix ?).
Windows 7 used Ice Beam.
Steelix lost 20% of its health.
Windows 7's leftovers restored its health a little!
Windows 7 restored 2% of its health.
Steelix was hurt by its burn!
Steelix lost 12% of its health.

Nothing much happened, so scout beam!

Windows 7 used Ice Beam.
Steelix lost 22% of its health.
Steelix used Explosion.
Windows 7 lost 35% of its health.
ianh992's Steelix fainted.
Windows 7's leftovers restored its health a little!
Windows 7 restored 6% of its health.
---

Max Defence Max HP Bold Porygon2 takes the Explosion like a champ, only losing 35%. So what will Ian bring out to take him on?

Steelix: Ka-Boomed

ianh992: 35 % X_X
ianh992 switched in Sceptile (lvl 100 Sceptile ?).

Well, here comes a specs focus blast, so lets bring out Sheddy!

Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Sceptile used Focus Blast.
It doesn't affect Gabriel...
---
ianh992: son of a XD

Just as I predicted, Sheddy comes in to take the hit. Now lets use Bug bite to scout a pinch berry.

ianh992 switched in Zangoose (lvl 100 Zangoose ?).
Gabriel used Bug Bite.
Zangoose lost 45% of its health.
---

Zangoose, eh? It might actually be able to hurt Sheddy, so let’s protect.

Flareon: i never thought Sheddy would be this troubling XD
ianh992: there a irration, MAJOR pain in the ass >.<
Gabriel used Protect.
Gabriel protected itself!
Zangoose used Swords Dance.
Zangoose's attack was sharply raised.

Zangoose used Shadow Claw.

Gabriel lost 100% of its health.
Gabriel hung on using its Focus Sash!
Gabriel used Will-o-wisp.
Zangoose was burned!
Zangoose was hurt by its burn!
Zangoose lost 12% of its health.
---
ianh992: well thats one out of 2

OH SHI- I realize my mistake in leaving Sheddy in as I remember Zangoose learns Shadow Claw. Well, that’s used my Sash, so I’ll have to play Sheddy a little more conservatively now. Fearing another Shadow claw, I decide to protect.

Gabriel used Protect.
Gabriel protected itself!
Zangoose used Swords Dance.
Zangoose's attack was sharply raised.
Zangoose was hurt by its burn!
Zangoose lost 12% of its health.
---

Well, there was little else I could have done at that point, he would have gotten the Swords dance anyway. Time for a switch I reckon.

Flareon switched in Fluffy (lvl 100 Jumpluff ?).
Zangoose used Shadow Claw.
Fluffy lost 44% of its health.
Flareon's Fluffy fainted.
Zangoose was hurt by its burn!
Zangoose lost 12% of its health.

Well, Fluffy death fodder served its purpose, and shall be remembered. Hopefully Porygon2 can take the STAB Slash coming its way.

Flareon switched in Windows 7 (lvl 100 Porygon2).
Windows 7 traced Zangoose's Immunity!
Zangoose used Close Combat.

Zangoose's special defence was lowered.
Zangoose was hurt by its burn!
Zangoose lost 12% of its health.

Windows 7: Crashed

Zangoose learns close combat? I was completely unprepared for that! Well it’s slowly dying to burn, so I’ll bring in something to stall it out.

Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Gabriel used Protect.

Zangoose used Shadow Claw.

ianh992 switched in Arcanine (lvl 100 Arcanine ?).

Well that couldn’t have gone better. Arcanine again eh? Well, porygon2 isn’t my only tracer!

Flareon switched in Juliet (lvl 100 Gardevoir ?).
Juliet traced Arcanine's Flash Fire!
Arcanine used Fire Blast.
Juliet's Flash Fire raised its fire power!

Its moments like this where im glad I ran Trace over Synchronize. Psychic looks like the best option here, given its great neutral coverage.

ianh992 switched in Sceptile (lvl 100 Sceptile ?).

That 2hKO was unexpected. Well, time for a switch to someone that can take anything Sceptile throws at it…

Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
Sceptile used Leaf Storm.
It doesn't affect Gabriel...
---
ianh992: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well that worked out. Knowing he’s gonna switch out, I opt for Will-O-Wisp. Something’s gonna get burned.

ianh992 switched in Arcanine (lvl 100 Arcanine ?).
Gabriel used Will-o-wisp.
Arcanine's Flash Fire raised its fire power!
---

Evidently not. Arcanine comes back in to absorb the Will-o-wisp, boosting its STAB Fire blast even further. It wouldn’t do to lose Sheddy, so I switch out to Gardevoir, hoping for another fire blast.

Flareon switched in Juliet (lvl 100 Gardevoir ?).
Juliet traced Arcanine's Flash Fire!
Arcanine used Crunch.
It's super effective!

Bugger. Looking back at it, that was an extremely bad idea to bring Gardy in. I decide to bring Donphan back in to handle the incoming Alakazam.

Flareon switched in 2Pachederm (lvl 100 Donphan ?).
ianh992 switched in Alakazam (lvl 100 Alakazam ?).
2Pachederm used Earthquake.

ianh992 switched in Sceptile (lvl 100 Sceptile ?).
as predicted, Alakazam comes in and gets smacked with a STAB Earthquake before it can do anything, and Sceptile comes in to threaten Donphan out. Lets bring Sheddy back in to take the incoming Lead storm.

ianh992 switched in Arcanine (lvl 100 Arcanine ?).
Flareon switched in Gabriel (lvl 100 Shedinja).
---

OH SHI- I realize I haven’t really got any more safe switch ins. It’s 3-2
at the moment, me with Sheddy, Donphan, and my unrevealed Regice, and him with Sceptile and Arcanine. Hoping I can PP Stall him out of Fire blasts so I can wall him with Regice, I opt to protect.

It was at this point I realized I should have brought in Sheddy on Sceptile, as I could have Bug bited him for the KO, and still have Regice left. I thought he had ran out of Fire blast PP, and left Regice in to finish him off. Unfortunately, my Iceberg in Knocked out, Leaving it at 1-1 Sheddy V Arcanine!

I realize that a shadow claw would finish him off. However, his faster crunch would also kill me. So, completely out of options, I click Shadow claw, and hope the Hax gods love me.

Gabriel lost 100% of its health.
Flareon's Gabriel fainted.
ianh992 wins!

Evidently not, and His Arcanine is left at 5% with the win.

PROPS:

Porygon2 for stopping Fire blasts, generally walling, and taking Steelix’s explosion like a champ

Donphan for providing crucial spin support so Sheddy could do his job

SHEDINJA for surviving an entire match all the way to the end, whilst getting some nice damage and a couple of burns in too!

Zangoose for taking Porygon2 out

Arcanine for finally taking Sheddy out at the end of the battle.

SLOPS:

Regice, for doing next to nothing the entire match.

Leaving Sheddy in on Zangoose to let him SD up >.<

Leaving Jumpluff in on Sub Alakazam

My MVP of the match was most definitely SHEDINJA, for managing to screw around the opponents team unexpectedly well!

That was an extremely fun battle Ianh992, hopefully I’ll run into you on the ladder again sometime!

Really good warstory. Both of you played well and made some good predictions, comments weren't overly long but were still interesting. Good job!

Meh, there are some minor mistakes that add up for both of you, which somewhat screw up some of the story. Pictures would be nice, or atleast show the score (x-x) after every KO. Not much to complain about really, but it could've been better.

Chance the font, seriously. The default one is so much easier to read than this. Also pictures and score would be nice. The battle was ok, but there were some massive misprediction from both players, like Arcanine spamming Fire Blast (Fire Blast, really?) when Porygon2 was alive. Overall 4/10.

5/10, fair few misplays in here. Pictures would be nice, and some percentages for pokes also. Would be nice if you showed your team at the beginning too, means we can follow your thought process better.

thanks for the feedback, this is my first warstory, that helped.

added my team, scores after every KO, and added when a poke was KO'ed

I enjoyed it, not bad for a first try.

Some obvious mistakes (why did it take your opponent 3 times to realize that you WoW after bringing Sheddy in, he could have picked up a Flashfire boost and saved his Steelix) but the Sheddy annoyance was lulz.

I'll say 6/10, and I look forward to a second try. =)

Good battle. I now see how good Shedinja can be if used properly. The comments were great also. Keep up the good work! 9/10.

EDIT: Lol, everyone is giving 5 or 6/10 and I give 9 ^^

Your opponent should've kept spamming Crunch instead of Fire Blast since you were so intent on keeping Shedinja alive. Also, I think you tried too hard to keep Shedinja alive; both of you eventually outpredicted the switches but there were some misplays on both ends.

Not a bad warstory though. I rarely see Zangoose and Gardevoir in play.

Good comments and decent format- would've liked to see some more pictures :/ Also, you might have tried a little too hard with Sheddy and your opponent caught on/should have caught on pretty fast. I like it though!

6.5/10

This was an okay warstory. Everyone has mentioned the main reasons, mainly misplays and the font, among other things. Also, Berries aren't really common on Pokemon, so hoping to steal one shortly after the battle began wasn't the best plan. Additionally, how could the hax gods help you as you hoped at the end of the battle? If you were hoping for a miss, Crunch has 100% accuracy. However, I will admit that there were a couple of good points during the battle. Considering this is your first warstory, I say this is a 5.5/10.

EDIT: After looking at it a second time, I actually decided that I liked it more. I didn't notice during the first read the creative ways you said that some of the Pokemon fainted, which were actually kinda amusing. I'm changing my score to 6.5/10. There are still some parts where you could have improved, but it's a good first warstory, and I hope to see more warstories from you!

Engineer Pikachu

Good morning, you bastards!
is a Contributor Alumnus
Everybody else said what I was going to say: trying to keep Shedinja alive reduced your chances of winning by a significant margin.

I actually enjoyed reading the warstory, though percents would have been nice. Your comments were nice (besides hoping crunch would miss) and it was, at least in my opinion, easy to read. I'd say 7.5/10 and i'd love to read another.
