Silly Things You've Seen On The OU Ladder!

Today's lesson: Customgame allows even more brokenness than hackmons, 'cause you can use anything including CAPmons and Showdown-only moves. As such, when challenged to a customgame, remember that your opponent may bring something like this to fight an OU team: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/customgame-84606541

Edit: Pachirisu sweeps a team in Ubers, thanks to a long and drawn-out Baton Pass setup: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84604939

Edit2: Parental Bond Deoxys-Defence with Charge Beam, Power-up Punch, Oblivion Wing, and an unknown fourth move. Also Dragon Dance-boosting Bisharp. Didn't see what else it had 'cause it got V-created. And he forfeits after complaining that my team is clichéd.

Edit3: Apparently, this guy somehow got somewhere on the ladder using nothing but a Wonder Guard Raikou: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons-84657497

-Sashed Dragonite with Thunderbolt.
-This: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84631060
-Bouffalant, Psychic Klefki, Signal Beam Vaporeon, and Shell Bell+Hone Claws Talonflame, all on the same team.
-Torkoal.
-Here's how you revenge kill a Heatran: Scizor.
-Yet another Thunder Wave+Gyro Ball Ferrothorn. Please stop doing that.
-Same Ferrothorn attempting to use both Thunder Wave and Leech Seed on a Breloom with both Toxic Orb and Substitute up. I fear for that guy, I really do.
-Hawlucha 1, Eeveelutions 0: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84631644
-Attempting to use Stone Edge, one guy says, "This better not miss." It did, of course.
-Non mega Pinsir.
-Defensive Volcarona with Whirlwind and Will-o-Wisp. He also had a Toxic Orb Talonflame and a Fire Pledge Charizard-X.
-Scyther, Magmar, and Meganium.
-4 belly drummers on one team: Charizard, Azumarill, Slurpuff, and Chesnaught.
-Not silly, but a rare event: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84630942
-This guy must think he's Team Rocket, except for the Scolipede: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/pandora-ou-255954
-Red's team yet again: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84630033

So what was that Victini using as a held item? It's not the standard Choice set, and it's mixed. Is it trying to bluff one Choice and switch to the other side to kill your wall? That might actually be clever, if it weren't for:

4- Atk Victini Bolt Strike vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 234-276 (81.8 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
and either
252 SpA Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 169-199 (40.8 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
or
252+ SpA Victini Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 184-217 (44.4 - 52.4%) -- 19.1% chance to 2HKO

I mean seriously, WTF?

Unless Greninja is defensive or something.
Given that the Greninja is on the same team as a special Conk, wouldn't be too surprised if it had a bulkier spread... Also the Victini is clearly mixed, so might have had a neutral nature + not a whole lot of atk investment.

0 Atk Victini Bolt Strike vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 260-306 (74.7 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO <-- which is consistent with the damage it did that match.

On a side note...

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/frost-ou-288964 <-- clean sweep with Venomoth. Yes, it's a grass mono vs. a bug mono, but still. The thing that makes this match funny is this guy's comments. "u r hacking stop stop"

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84655894 <-- "banded" ditto lol.. 1/2 his team is weak to fighting, and most of the rest has been weakened. WTF did he expect? (there's a reason this thing is being suspected, after all..)

Fair enough.

First off, that is not how you fight a Bug/Poison using Grass types. Did it not occur to him to maybe switch in Breloom while you were boosting and hit you with Rock Tomb?

Secondly, there are in fact ways to play around a Scarfed Imposter Ditto as Mega Lucario. Like maybe... having a Ghost-type still alive? Or having Mega Lucario carry priority that your other members resist, so that either Ditto locks itself into priority and gets tanked, or locks itself into Close Combat and gets owned by priority?

And yes, Mega Lucario is pretty darn powerful. But personally, I'm alright with that. It's a Mega. You get ONE of those on your team. If anything, Genesect needs to be banned, not Mega Lucario. Genesect has the approximate power of a Mega Evolution (since it can actually use items), has at least seven different viable sets (compared to Mega Lucario's four or so), and doesn't take up the Mega slot, allowing you to run both Genesect and "another" Mega on the same team. I would actually be perfectly alright with allowing Genesect to stay OU... if it took up the team's Mega slot, and had a weaker base form that it had to Mega Evolve from before sweeping teams.

To quote the OP of the current suspect thread: "stop using being a mega as an argument or that megas are supposed to be powerful. This is stupid flawed logic that means nothing."

Fair enough.

Hey, I didn't intend to start a debate of whether or not it's banworthy. Just that it's up for suspect for a reason (and that is undebatable). Whether or not it gets banned is outside of what this topic is to discuss.

Back on topic:

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-84700052 <-- LOL

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ubers-84777904 — Classic ragequit.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ubers-84778222 — Someone falls for the old "nickname your Arceus after another Arceus forme" trick. And tries to Extreme Speed an Arceus-Steel.

Edit: Apparently the Custom Game format allows all the silliness in the universe, as I have just discovered: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/customgame-84797818
It's like Hackmons on steroids.

On a more related note, Klefki sweep and a really random Rotom-W set: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ou-84797736

Edit2: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84877236 — non-Mega Charizard, Hyper Beam Bisharp, and Giga Impact Golurk. And Draco Meteor everyday. And Keldeo trying to CC the aforementioned Golurk. On that note, physical Keldeo in the first place.

Edit3: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/customgame-84835856 — basically just an Ubers match with debug mode. Kyogre sweeps the opposing team due to a truly massive amount of hax.

Edit4: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/customgame-84795161 — (Mostly) legit team 6-0s a hackmons team. And that is not how you use Deoxys-Speed.

Random Shit volume 22: Another Snow Day Edition
-Sunny Day Heat Rock Vaporeon.
-Dark Pulse Banette.
-Hypno, holding... a Cherish Ball.
-Itemless Magmortar.
-A team of only Swoobat and Chansey.
-Endure Espeon.
-Armaldo with both Aqua Jet and Quick Claw.
-So a Combusken showed up...
-Flame Charge Delphox.
-Douse Drive Genesect, also with Flame Charge.
-The rare Sashed Swagger Bisharp.
-Perhaps this guy was trying to find stupid stuff, because his team consisted solely of Magikarp.
-Solarbeam Talonflame.
-Shelgon.
-Extreme Speed Togekiss.
-Excadrill with manual sand, accompanied by the decidedly less silly Sand Veil Heliolisk.
-Using EQ on Mandibuzz and Thunder Wave on Rotom-W.
-HP Ground M-Blastoise.
-Using Shadow Claw on Smeargle and Spore on Trevenant. The latter occurred 4 times in a row.
-Brick Break Typhlosion.
-Quick Claw Starmie. Speedy star.

Dhe
So I just saw this:
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons-84292826

And was like, "WTF are you guys doin'? This isn't how hackmons works!"

XenoBlade911: Well, Air Balloon + Dig makes you completely invulnerable for the startup turn. But it's still pretty dumb, 'cause the opponent will just switch to someone who's immune to ground and then own you, or underspeed you and hit you anyway on the second turn. Or take so little damage from it that it won't be worthwhile anyway, especially since it forces you to attack only once every two turns.

Edit: Also, not sure if this is silly, but I just had this battle: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/hackmons-84297024
Contrary Shaymin-Sky. And he procs Moonblast's Sp. Atk drop on it right away. Poor guy. Prior to that, half his team is swept by Sturdy Shedinja. Also Illusion Regigigas breaks team display.

Edit2: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84319785
Hax, silly sets, and bad strategy. Mega Mewtwo X using Aura Sphere on Cresselia. Cresselia freeze-haxing Mewtwo to death. Mega Gardevoir being outsped by Giratina. Mega Gardevoir staying in on Giratina's Shadow Force. Fake Tears Wigglytuff. And more!

Edit3: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84319711
Arceus-Grass with Grass Knot. Isn't Judgement sufficient?

Edit4: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84320725
Ladder troll encounters ladder troll in the battle of the century!
I swear, the Ubers ladder is great for stuff like this.

Edit5: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ubers-84319339
How not to defeat Mega Gengar, and how not to use Mega Gengar. And how not to react to a foe you outspeed baiting you with Destiny Bond. And Flash Cannon Xerneas actually accomplishing something. And those rankings... how did they get so high up?

Edit6: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/hackmons-84302059
In which Arceus-Fairy is Normal-type. Do the Arceus Formes' types have an unannounced, invisible reset to Normal on entry if they aren't Multitype with the correct Plate, or something? If so, next time I see that Air Balloon Wonder Guard Arceus-Electric, it's eating a Contrary Superpower from Shaymin-Sky. Or is that guy using a Multitype Arceus-Fairy without a Plate? Incidentally, Trick failed against it. Does that mean it's holding a random Mega Stone for no reason?

Edit7: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/hackmons-84321294
Attempting to Perish-trap a Sableye. Which makes me think: Should Perish Trappers run Soak to stop Ghost-types from switching? That sounds like it would be funny.

Edit8: http://pokemonshowdown.com/replay/ubers-84338693
Team that doesn't even qualify as OU defeats a mono-Dragon in Ubers. This guy is clearly stuck in Gen V.
Due to the amount of Heavy Pokemon in Ubers, Grass Knot is always preferred.

There's a new thread for this in the XY section, guys. http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/silly-things-youve-seen-on-the-ou-ladder-v2.3499396/

By the way, Drizzle Politoed is still good. Drizzle Politoed with HP Fire, not so much. Also, non-Drizzle Politoed is generally considered silly by most standards, since its main niche is in setting Rain to take advantage of either with the rest of your team (Damp Rock), or just with its own spam attack (Choice Specs Hydro Pump).

Drizzle politoed is awful though. Non-drizzle politoed is worse. Rain is quite possibly the worst weather in OU, but that's argument fodder right there, so I'll leave that alone. Thanks for the link!
