[Overview]

Slakoth is a case of a Pokemon crippled by its ability. Because of its ability, Truant, Slakoth can only attack every alternate turn, and this destroys a lot of its potential in the fast-paced Little Cup metagame. Whi;e it can revenge kill with the help of Choice items, any team with Slakoth must cater to a lot of its specific needs.

[Set]
Name: Choice Scarf
Move 1: Return
Move 2: Brick Break
Move 3: Night Slash / Shadow Claw / Pursuit
Move 4: Ice Punch
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Truant
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Spe
[Set Comments]

Slakoth reaches 2o Speed, enough to outspeed/tie with all unboosted/unscarfed Pokemon in Little Cup. Unfortunately, Little Cup's fast pace means Slakoth is likely to only get one kill; Truant also makes it vulnerable to revenge killing. Nevertheless, it reaches a respectable Attack stat of 15 when maxed with Jolly nature.

Return is a solid STAB move with no drawbacks, while Brick Break is nearly a sure 0HKO on Max HP/Max Def Aron after Stealth Rock. Brick Break also has the bonus of being able to break screens, which can be important for a team. The third slot depends on personal preference. Night Slash + Brick break is resisted by only Croagunk, and while Shadow Claw + Brick Break is unresisted, Normal-types switch in freely on Choiced Shadow Claw. Pursuit is on a completely different scale and is useful for chasing down fleeing ghosts. Ice Punch does hefty damage to Gligar, who might try to switch in on a resisted Brick Break.

[Additional Comments]

This version of Slakoth should be used for solely revenge-killing. Due to Truant, Slakoth can only hit every alternate turn, and losing a turn is very expensive in Little Cup. Slakoth should be reserved for when a destructive Pokemon that is causing havoc is out on your opponent's side, so that it can make use of the surprise factor in Choice Scarf to net an important KO.

[Set]
Name: Choice Band
Move 1: Return
Move 2: Brick Break
Move 3: Ice Punch
Move 4: Sucker Punch
Item: Choice Band
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Truant
EVs: 116 HP 196 Atk 196 Spe
[Set Comments]

Slakoth has middling Speed, but a Choice Band allows it to do heavy damage to Pokemon slower than it. Sucker Punch enables it to revenge faster but weakened Pokemon.

Once again, Return is for solid reliable STAB, and Brick Break is for Rocks and Steels, and screens. Ice Punch now is a definite 0HKO on defensive Gligar with Stealth Rock factored in. Sucker Punch is needed in the fourth slot because of its valuable priority, which allows Slakoth to overcome its average speed and KO weakened Pokemon trying to finish it.

Some damage calcs with Choice Band:-
[Additional Comments]

Choice Band Slakoth is able to do significant damage, but requires good prediction to use. Ghost types such as Gastly can come in on Return and Brick Break, while set up Pokemon can take advantage of Sucker Punch.

Slakoth in general is cursed because of its abilty, meaning that Choice items are its best bet.

[Team Options]

Stealth Rock support is very important for Slakoth. It breaks Sashes, which is very useful for revenge killing with the Choice Scarf set with any move, or with Sucker Punch on the Choice Band set. Also, Ghosts are good teammates, as they can come in Scarfed Croagunk / Machop trying to revenge kill Slakoth with Fighting-type moves. In return, Slakoth eats Ghost-type attacks for breakfast. Stunky is also a good partner in order to take out Gastly that come in on Brick Break

The Scarf set struggles against opposing Scarfed Pokemon due to Speed issues. This can be corrected by having proper paralysis support. The Choice Band set appreciates paralysis support even more as it does not have a lot of Speed behind it.

[Optional Changes]

Substitute and Focus Punch are interesting options in Slakoth's movepool, creating a potential SubPunch set, but Truant ensures that he cannot use them properly. Similarly, Bulk Up also becomes useless because of his ability, relegating him to solely the realm of Choice items.

Slakoth has access to Fire Punch and ThunderPunch, but it cannot afford the moveslots. If you really want to, you can drop hitting Gligar for ThunderPunch to hit Mantyke, or Fire Punch to hit most Bugs. However, neither is recommended.

[Counters]

The Choice Scarf can be beaten by either predicting to get a Pokemon in to force it out, or by sacrificing a weakened Ghost to Pursuit and following up with Diglett. The Choice Band set falls to other set up Pokemon faster than it that are brought in with prediction.

Some damage calcs with Choice Band:-
That's pretty encouraging. If Anorith is has lost half its hitpoints, it will definitely be 0HKO'd by Sucker Punch.Sucker Punch Vs 76 HP 36 Def Anorith: 50% - 59.1%
With the given EV spread and Jolly Nature, Slakoth outspeeds Aron by one point, giving it enough room to Brick break for the KO.Brick Break Vs 116 HP Aron: 121.7% - 156.5%
Pretty good against weakened Bagon that have already set up. This strips off a large portion of its health.Sucker Punch Vs 76 HP Bagon: 50-59.1%
If you are good at predicting and nail Bagon on the switch when it expects Sucker Punch, you will almost always 0HKO with Return and Stealth Rock.Return Vs 76 HP Bagon: 86.4%-109.1%
Cool, a maximum damage roll can hit it for up to two-thirds of its HP! That's quite a hefty amount against one of the biggest threats in the metagame. A minimum damage roll hits it for a little more than 1/2 of its HP. Either way, that drastically reduces the no. of attacks that Dratini can fire off.Sucker Punch Vs 28 HP Dratini: 52.5% - 66.7%
