The second raid update, Vs. The Greater Masticator Invader!, is also ready.

Notes on this raid:
  • Condensing this raid's alternating-round structure into Phases proved difficult. We've arrived at a three-Phase structure that puts the old Devour rounds together, instead.
  • This Raid forced us to codify a Fixed Damage modifier (e.g. "Psystrike =10"), because so many of the Pokemon's utility moves are low-BAP spread attacks that would create huge wastes of refs' time.
  • We took a lot of pain to simply the old Raid's excess text, such as by removing Guzzlord's Defense ranks innately.
  • By far the hardest part was settling on new Behaviors, though. Old Guzzlord had no clear focus and several points of harsh RNG.
  • The new behaviors emphasize high amounts of fixed spread damage. The raid also is harsh on Physical AGs early on (Iron Defense) and harsh on Special AGs later (Snarl), differentiating their feel.

An Acquired Taste
The restriction text of the Boss' Belch is ignored.​
While the Boss is performing Belch, if the Boss has an Ingested Pokemon:​
Belch's types are the Ingested Pokemon's types.​
Intradimensional Intestional Ingression
Ingested Pokemon can't receive orders, take turns, or act. Actions can't target ingested Pokemon.​

While a Pokemon is ingested:​
The Boss is the ingested Pokemon's types.​

The damage of hits dealt to the Boss is doubled (x2); and the Boss' Defense and Special Defense ranks are zero.​
If a condition would be created on the Boss; instead, it is created on the ingested Pokemon.​
The Boss has all of the ingested Pokemon's conditions and markers, in addition to their own (which can result in the Boss having more than one condition of the same names). Additionally, the Boss has the greater of their own stage and the ingested Pokemon's stage, for each stat stage.​

Devour
At the end of each odd round:​
The Boss ingests a raider at random, from among the raiders that have been ingested the fewest times this battle.​
At the end of each even round:​
The Boss regurgitates their ingested Pokemon, if any. Inflict Corrosion on that Pokemon until the battle ends.​
(Once regurgitated, they're no longer ingested.)​

The third raid update, Vs. The Shadow-Wielding Master and Students!, is now live.

Development notes on this raid:
  • Other than adapting the revolving-door switches into Phases, this update went pretty smoothly.
  • Three of the students, including a new student, have been designated as "assassins" for each of the three roles:
    • Golisopod tries to break the PR with powerful physical attacks and wide coverage, just like before.
    • Drapion tries to damage and disrupt the SU with a mix of attacks and Taunt.
    • Zoroark-Hisui tries to defeat the AG with Confusion or powerful special attacks.
  • To make up for fewer switches, entry hazard damage is greatly increased. You'll have to fight Shedinja's Defog, however.
  • The enrage was softened. The challenger now loses if they go two or more rounds without KOing a student.
  • This Raid is likely to be one of the most hostile to held items, if not the single most, due to the amount of Knock Off available.

Raid Arena - Hidden Ninja Dojo
This strange dojo, said to be manned by no one, is hidden behind a swamp (you hear some people talk about funny mushrooms growing nearby). Its old, moldy wooden doors open for you before shutting off with a worrying amount of force once you're in. In the center of a perfectly round room, a mysterious silhouette is floating above the floor... You're pretty sure the room is full of hidden contraptions, too.

Intangibile Shadow Ninja Master

Shedinja has no HP parameter. They can't gain or lose HP, and their HP can't be set.​
If all five of Shedinja's students (Ninjask, Weezing, Drapion, Golisopod, Greninja) are Fainted, the challenger wins the battle.​
Aspiring Shadow Ninja Students
Shedinja's ninja students enter play each round, one per round, one after the other. Once Master Shedinja's patience is spent... watch out.
Shedinja has interest in training the challenger until the end of round 6.​
Once Shedinja no longer has interest in training the challenger: The challenger loses the battle.​
At the end of each round: Randomly select two of Shedinja's students that are not fainted (or as many as possible). Withdraw any students in play that were not selected; then, send out any students in reserve that were selected.​

The fourth raid update, Vs. The "Loyal" Lousy Lackabouts!, is now live.

Development notes on this raid:
  • We've switched its placement with Ninjas—Loyal Three now caps at 6 EXP, and Ninjas award 10 EXP.
  • This was such a hard one to revise. Trying to ensure the Protector is taking enough damage, while differentiating the three Bosses, while also ensuring that the amount of actions stays manageable, felt a little beyond what I could manage in the two sittings I spent on it.
  • At no point do the Bosses have more than four actions between them; but players will have to prepare for quite a lot of different configurations of Bosses.
  • I expect that players will take this update as a chance to sign up for Ninjas. I'm fine with positioning Loyal Three as something you do for the Pokemon on offer—I'm also fine letting more of these Pokemon into the ecosystem.
  • The Bosses have pretty low maximum HP (850 compared to Guzzlord's 1100 or so), but the Villainous Vocations make the Bosses some of the tankiest in the facility so far; hence, the much lower damage modifiers than other Raids.

Background:
Raised as one of a clutch of eggs raised by a commercial breeder, Percival was last of his siblings to be adopted out. In his new home, he hid in his shell for four days straight before he was finally coaxed out by food. He took to food, and its preparation, very quicky thereafter. In addition to his passion for cooking and for eating; Percival now steps into the battling circuit for the travel opportunities. Mainly, he aims to chase the tales of restaurants and meals he heard from Lou's battling Pokemon.

Two more raids, fresh off the presses. The updates for "The Cold-Iron Tink-tacular Turf War!" and "The Self-Perfecting Beast-Slaying Machine!" are now both live.

We've been looking for chances to reduce "unnecessary" complexity, sure. But this is side content and it's my birthday, so this first one is my gift to me.

Design notes on The Cold-Iron Tink-tacular Turf War:
  • It's simpler than it looks, really. It just takes a lot of words to retrofit raids with a new genre entirely.
  • This raid was never going to be played seriously as a leveling path: It's low EXP, type-specific, and was far to complicated for any ref to want to run.
  • This version is still complicated, but players will likely only run it once in a while for the vocations or for partial EXP; and the ref doesn't need to do that much of the lifting. All of the complexity is on the player when placing Forretrifications. Even the opponents' behavior sets are pretty streamlined—take a look.
  • Really, the pedigree of this raid has always been that it loads itself with mechanics to try to bend the medium in a fun way. Now that the other Level 3 raid is more playable, why not lean in to that fully?

The Battle for the Korvid Kingdom
The Scourge Invaders (The Tinkaton Boss and Tinkatuff minion), are opponents of The Korvid Kingdom (Corviknight and the Corvisquire minions.). Both teams are opponents of the raiders.​

Each Boss commands an amount of Legions, and will win the battle if they control enough. The more Legions the command, the more powerful they are. Each Boss starts with zero Legions under their command, and amasses more as they push their advantage. The Scourage Warlord commands Legions of:tinkatink:Tinkatink Marauders, and the Coalition Commander commands Legions of:rookidee:Rookidee Soldiers.​

At the end of each round, the Boss with higher HP gains two Legions under their command, and the Boss with lower HP loses one Legion.​
(You must defeat both bosses, without allowing either boss to amass six Legions of warriors.)​
Each Boss has the following cumulative effects, based on the number of :tinkatink:Marauder Legions or :rookidee:Soldier Legions they command.​

Design notes on The Self-Perfecting Beast-Slaying Machine:
  • This raid already had just about everything you'd want from a revised raid. Really, all we had to do was trim the default behaviors to a reasonable size.
  • Silvally's immense movepool is backed with tempting options for the Boss' behaviors, but we decided to keep it lean and focus on the onslaught of coverage.
  • While the original version emphasized a repeated pummeling with Multi-Attack; we decided to concentrate the fight's damage into the behaviors gained from their Memory.
  • We decided to keep the fight a single phase to keep the player's resources tight.

Once, the islands of Alola faced an incursion of bizarre invaders — Pokemon-like entities known as Ultra Beasts from beyond our world. Fearful of their power, a secret project was initiated to engineer a Pokemon capable of destroying them. The proposed living weapon would adapt itself based on battle data recorded from combat with the Ultra Beasts. Long before the project could be brought to fruition, however, the Ultra Beasts were brought to heel by the island's inhabitants and their guardians. The invaders, such as they were, were lost and confused in a dimension foreign to them, and an understanding was reached between the two groups.
However, the creators of the secret project remained paranoid of their quarry. In their haste to finish the weapon, they left them fatally flawed and incapable of telling friend from foe. Their initial test spelled disaster for their creators, and their unceasing mission to destroy possible threats spiraled out of control. Far from any trace of civilization, the creation that was made to protect the island from the extradimensional menace yet prowls, perceiving any life-form they meet as a threat to be laid low...
