Mew Mew
[OVERVIEW]
* Volcarona boasts a great Special Attack and access to strong STAB moves in Flamethrower, Heat Wave, and Bug Buzz, which when combined with its Speed allows Volcarona to outspeed common threats such as Tapu Lele and non-Choice Scarf Landorus-T and dish out heavy damage.
* Good natural special bulk allows Volcarona to survive numerous special attacks like Choice Specs Tapu Fini's Muddy Water and Tapu Lele's Psychic in Psychic Terrain.
* Volcarona primarily functions as a setup sweeper; after using Quiver Dance, it can outspeed and KO threats such as Mega Metagross, Tapu Koko, Aegislash, and Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T.
* Access to decent coverage in Giga Drain and Bug Buzz helps Volcarona deal with bulky Water-types, Rock-types, and Cresselia that might otherwise wall Volcarona.
* Additionally, Volcarona gets access to some support options in Whirlwind, Tailwind, and Rage Powder.
* However, Volcarona is 4x weak to Rock-type moves, making it extremely susceptible to the incredibly common Rock Slide from Landorus-T and Tyranitar.
* Furthermore, Incineroar threatens Volcarona, as it can prevent Volcarona from setting up while entirely walling it.

[SET COMMENTS]
* Flamethrower is Volcarona's primary means of offense and can OHKO a wide range of targets like Tapu Koko, bulky Tapu Bulu, Celesteela, and Aegislash after a Quiver Dance.
* Giga Drain helps Volcarona take on bulky Water-type Pokemon like Tapu Fini, Mega Swampert, and Gastrodon, notably 2HKOing the first at +1, and helps with longevity.
* Bug Buzz can be used over Giga Drain to deal with bulky Psychic-type Pokemon like Cresselia and Gothitelle, and it can also OHKO Mega Tyranitar after a couple boosts.
* Quiver Dance is Volcarona's setup option that boosts its Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed after which it can proceed to sweep the opposing team.
* Protect is used to scout for potential Z-Moves and random Rock-type moves, as well as to stall out Tailwind and Trick Room.
* Flame Body threatens physical attackers like Mega Metagross, Mega Kangaskhan, and Kartana with its 30% burn chance, making Volcarona a threatening switch-in to them.
* Mago Berry lets Volcarona recover 50% of its HP while setting up Quiver Dance after tanking attacks like Mega Metagross's Zen Headbutt and Landorus-T's -1 Rock Slide, to retain momentum.
* A Modest nature combined with Quiver Dance boosts helps Volcarona OHKO various Pokemon like Tapu Koko, Aegislash, and Celesteela.
* 220 HP and 4 Defense EVs helps Volcarona tank Mega Metagross's Zen Headbutt, Incineroar's Flare Blitz, and Landorus-T's -1 Rock Slide.
* 220 HP and 76 Special Defense EVs allow Volcarona to survive Tapu Koko's Gigavolt Havoc in Electric Terrain 93.7% of the time.
* 68 Special Attack EVs let Volcarona OHKO Tapu Koko with Flamethrower 93.8% of the time after a Quiver Dance boost and 2HKO Tapu Fini with boosted Giga Drains.
* Running 140 Speed EVs allows Volcarona to outspeed Mega Manectric after a Quiver Dance.
* Alternatively, 252 Special Attack and 252 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed maximum Speed Tapu Lele and non-Choice Scarf Landorus-T and deal a big chunk of damage to them.
* Aside from Mago Berry, Firium Z has seen some usage on more offensive sets to grab some quick KOs, giving Volcarona enough firepower to OHKO Mega Charizard in sun after a Quiver Dance.
* Fake Out users like Mega Kangaskhan, Alolan Persian, and Hitmontop pair well with Volcarona, helping it set up Quiver Dance effectively while minimizing the risk of it being KOed.
* Volcarona greatly appreciates Intimidate support to make up for its lack of physical bulk and help it tank super effective attacks like Landorus-T's Rock Slides. Landorus-T, Scrafty, and Hitmontop fill this role especially well, as the latter two have access to Fake Out for additional support.
* Wide Guard users like Aegislash, Celesteela, and Hitmontop help Volcarona avoid getting hit by spread moves such as the ever-popular Rock Slide and Muddy Water, which could otherwise threaten to 2HKO Volcarona.
* Water-type and Ground-type Pokemon like Tapu Fini, Suicune, and Landorus-T can take out Fire-type Pokemon like Heatran and Incineroar, both of which are often used to wall Volcarona.
* While Volcarona serves primarily as a setup sweeper, support sets with Tailwind and Rage Powder can be used to provide speed control for your team and to help other Pokemon like Azumarill and Snorlax set up with ease thanks to its redirection.
