Calloflochie
Dog.
What up crackers, Calloflochie here from Australia bringing you my first post on the Smogon forums, a dual RMT, featuring my boys, Specs Swampert and Clamperl that managed to hit #1 and #2 on the ladder respectively. First off, shouts out to my boy Chris or Fat Mouthbreather for coming up with the idea to try these two lads out. Without him, I’d probably still be using standard shit and losing to Fake Out, Last Resort Ambipoms. But without further ado, let’s move onto the RMT.
But before I describe the sets let me quickly explain the process that lead to the creation of quiverpass feat. Clamperl.
Chris in Green and myself in Blue.
And there you have it, fool proof teambuilding in 30 seconds. (not rly)
Quiver Pass feat. Clamperl
Win Condition. (Venomoth) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Wonder Skin
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Baton Pass
Hymen Harvester (Clamperl) @ DeepSeaTooth
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Shell Smash
Here he is. The vaniquisher, the destroyer, the collector, death bringer, hymen harvester, whatever you want to call it. This little shell thanks to one of the best items in the game peaks at a Special Attack stat of 494 with a timid nature, a feat that can only be rivalled by modest Deoxys Attack.
But don’t let that fool you, this little clam is actually pretty bad. Sporting 35/85/55 bulk, the only thing you’re gonna want to receive a pass on are weak, resisted special attacks or maybe Bronzong. Honestly, if you only have one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted, just pass it to Zapdos.
But seriously, Clamperl is a hell of a lot of fun to use, watching people crumble as a tiny shell blasts through their mons is some of the most fun I have ever had on Pokemon so I strongly advise you to give this little man a try and heck, you’ll probably build a better team than I can with it.
Return P2 (Raikou) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
What’s a UU team without a sub CM Raikou right? There’s a reason this big boy is on just about every standard team above 1800 on the ladder and the reason why people resort to running stuff like what I have named it, ‘Return P2’. The only thing that really slows down Raikou is that even though it’s in a fantastic speed tier, Choice Scarf mons can still revenge it. How do you stop that? Pass a few speed boosts to it and let the fun begin.
For the most part, Raikou won’t be receiving the boosts but like I said with Clamperl, if you see the opportunity, capture it, there’s no shame in sweeping with Sub CM Raikou, unless you’re up against CoolStoryBrobat.
Mrs. Coverage (Nidoqueen) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SAtk / 128 Spd / 20 SDef / 108 HP
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
How this thing remained RU for so long I’ll never know but boy has it found a spot in the UU metagame. Sporting one of the best special movepools in the game, there is a reason this Queen is known as ‘Mrs. Coverage’ because you can simply adapt this mon to fill whatever roll you need it too.
Originally, I had rocks over fire blast but found that I was missing out on nailing the one thing this girl is designated to stop. Choice Scarf Heracross. Who would have thought? The most over prepared for mon in the tier is actually a threat to a team but alas, it is true. Keep this Sheila around if you see Heracross chilling on the opponent’s team preview but if you see a team lacking a solid check to this, send the boosts her way because I can promise that you will not be let down.
The EVs are a little odd, they maximise bulk but guarantee that at +1 you out speed up to base 100s, which are the only mons that can really revenge kill it, given that Raikou will be attacking with a pitifully weak HP ice and Mienshao can only dream of 2HKO’ing Nidoqueen with reckless HJK. 4 SpD EVs to give pesky Porygons the attack boost on download and the rest boosting that SpA to scary high levels. Lowered attack IVs cause we all hate Umbreon..Right?
Death from Above (Zapdos) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Roost
I have never seen a truer nickname than ‘Death from Above’, seriously, this thing is an absolute weapon if it manages to receive +2 +2 +2. Umbreon and Snorlax are the only things in the tier that can take it on and even then, Umbreon can do next to nothing back and Snorlax can only hope to revenge kill it after another mon has succumbed to Zapdos’ Wrath.
Like I said earlier, if you have one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted (unless absolutely necessary to go into Clamperl cause we all want to see Clamperl kill stuff), send the boosts to this guy.
I could have specialised the EVs to outspeed everything up to base whatever scarfers but as long as you don’t switch into a stone edge or a banded v create, you should have the bulk necessary to survive and begin the destruction.
Back up (Cobalion) @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Iron Head
- Close Combat
And if all else fails? Just rely on good ol’ back up. Umbreon causing you problems? Really getting you down? Slap a Cobalion on your team and watch all those umbreons become useless set up fodder.
This horse has saved the day many times, whether it be flinching an SD heracross twice as it’s preparing to sweep me or outspeeding a scarf Machamp that’s freaking running through my team, Cobalion can do it all. Standard set, standard EVs, just a solid mon in case for some reason, the broken strategy known as quiver pass doesn’t work.
Threats
Without a doubt, the largest threats to this team are scarfed fire types. Darmanitan, Chandelure, Victini all have the potential to punch holes in my team if I am to make even the slightest error throughout the game. If worst comes to worst, Clamperl can actually live both a Scarf V-Create and scarf flare blitz even after rocks, so use that knowledge to your advantage but aside from that, pretty much everything can be managed.
Oh wait I forgot. Sash. Freaking. Weavile. Watch the fuck out for that thing cause it was the one thing that cost me a perfect record across the two accounts but yeah, Clamperl is a bro, Zapdos is better and quiver pass is broken as shit.
But let’s say you’re not a fan of HO, you prefer the bulk, the switch ins, the synergy, all wrapped together in a ball with a special treat waiting in the middle. This might be the team for you.
SpecsPert
I dare you. (Swampert) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SAtk / 8 Atk
Quiet Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Earthquake
- Focus Blast
I dare you to switch that Xatu, I dare you to switch your physical defensive Arcanine, your Roserade, hell even your offensive Snorlax. Specs Swampert is a monster and the surprise value that comes with it can win games. The amount of times people switched in their ‘physical check’ only to be blasted with a Hydro Pump, Ice Beam or Focus Blast is too damn high.
Earthquake is there because as you know, sub CM Raikou is a god damn threat. Quiet nature may seem bad but in conjunction with Cofagrigus it can prove to be quiet a deadly little combination. Quiet also means that it can still outrun things like Rhyperior, Snorlax, Slowbro before they have the opportunity to realise what just hit them and without having to sacrifice on any of the fantastic bulk that Swampert has. For everything else, just click Hydro Pump and enjoy the show.
bird (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 220 Spd / 36 HP
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SAtk
- Substitute
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Ah bird, one of my favourite mons to use in UU and for good reason. The variety that this birdie can use is what makes it such a threat, from defensive sub roost to Modest LO and everything in between. This spread is suited to my team, it outruns all the necessary things I need it too (base 95s and below) while giving it a little extra bulk.
I did run HP flying cause real AF but due to a Slowbro/Rhyperior core nearly stalling me out , I decided sub roost with HP Grass would be the way to go. This guy also acts as my primary check to togekiss since I can easily scare it out with the prospect of a powerful Thunderbolt and get up a sub on the next thing to come in. If need be, bird can also stall out Umbreon’s foul plays (I know it’s lame as hell but so is using Umbreon so fuck it. Amirite? y/y) and gives a valuable ground immunity given that two of my mons are weak to it. Lowered attack IVs to ensure foul play from Umbreonor fucking swagger play from devil cat doesn’t hurt too badly.
Chandelure pls (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 200 SDef / 16 Spd / 40 HP
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Body Slam
- Sleep Talk
Cause as long as Chandelure is in this tier, a Snorlax will almost always feature on my more serious balanced teams. Seriously though, Snorlax is here just because fire types are too stronk in the UU metagame. Oh and it does a pretty good job at checking just about every other special attacker in the tier but I mean c’mon, Chandy is a threat mayne.
EVs are relatively standard except I have super l33t speed creep to make sure I can pick off other weakened Snorlax and mons lurking in the base 30 speed tier. Sleep talk is because not having a sleep absorber in the tier is really shitty and preventing Smeargle getting free entry hazards is always very nice. Body slam cause I prefer 30% paralysis over a minimal increase in power and EQ for hitting Rhyperior for pitiful damage lel. Pursuit doesn’t quite secure the KO on Chandelure but let’s be honest, who switches Chandelure anyway.
Snorlax also forms ½ of the dreaded cofaglax core, one that has become quite a favourite bulky offensive core of mine and one that I recommend to players wanting to play a bit more of an offensive game without sacrificing too much bulk in UU.
Lol scarf hera (Cofagrigus) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mummy
EVs: 252 SAtk / 248 HP / 8 Def
Quiet Nature
IVs: 30 Def / 30 SAtk / 30 SDef / 2 Spd / 2 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Trick Room
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
Good ol’ NastyRoom Cofagrigus, oh how many games I would have lost without you. Cofagrigus is honestly one of the best ghosts types in the tier and for very good reason. It sports fantastic physical defense to compliment Snorlax’s titanic special defense and also has all the necessary tools to become, in my opinion, the deadliest sweeper under trick room in UnderUsed tier.
Nasty plot boosts it’s SpA to insane levels, allowing it to OHKO mons such as Flygon after a boost, Trick room lets it become one of the ‘fastest mons in the tier’ and ghost/fighing moves give it that perfect neutral coverage. Cofagrigus as the name suggests also acts as my primary check to Scarf Heracross (as Nidoqueen can still get popped by the occasional Earthquake) but usually I like to keep this guy as full as possible seeing as it’s usually my main win condition.
Cofagrigus also aids a lot in slowing down rain (I’m looking at you Sweep) by either setting up trick room or giving physical rain sweeper (such as Kabutops) the mummy ability, bringing it back down to a manageable speed level. Cofagrigus also spin blocks if need be but lol spinners in UU so usually that isn’t too big of a concern.
IVs and EVs are standard from Smogon (pls don’t hold it against me that I’m using a Smogon spread, I promise I don’t do it too often).
Gligar pls (Nidoqueen) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Evs: 252 Satk / 168 Spd / 20 SDef / 68 HP
Modest Nature
Ivs: null Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam
This girl has already featured in the first RMT but I may as well talk about her a bit more. Nidoqueen has such a unique role in UU as it is one of the best special attacking SR setters in the tier only really rivalled by it’s brother Nidoking (a pretty mediocre mon at getting up rocks to begin with).
The EVs are to speed creep the speed creepers of the smogon spread cause real AF and max SpA cause OHKO’ing stuff is fun y’know? The moves are fairly standard for a Nidoqueen, SR cause best move in the game, Earth power for ridonk pwrfl ground STAB, fire blast for Bronzong, Ferroseed, Shaymin, Roserade and Ice Beam to hit birdies, Gligar and Flygon.
Nidoqueen also does a pretty decent job at keeping Umbreon at bay forcing it to always have to Wish/Tect after coming in on SR and 2 Earth Powers. Nidoqueen also acts as my immediate switch in to fighting types and electric types (Sub CM raikou can be scouted with SpecsPert first to decipher the Hidden Power and then dealt with from there).
Umbreon pls (Cobalion) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SAtk
Naive Nature
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Volt Switch
- Stone Edge
Scarf Cobalion, the epitome of don’t knock it until you try it. Sitting pretty at base 108 speed, it outspeeds the entire UU metagame bar the infamous ScarfKou or even the set I ran, ScarfZelf (another set worth trying cause smashing Mienshao turn 1 is funny as fuck). Although it does look weak, Close Combat provides very strong STAB later in the game and acts as a pretty solid win condition once the opponent’s team has been battered by my five other mons. Cobalion is also an amazing scout being able to comfortably volt switch out on Heracross or Mienshao’s and bring in Cofagrigus for the easy wall. Granted Mienshao has a fairly high chance of being OHKO’ed after rocks by CC so you can also do that.
It also is a great switch in to DD Kingdra being able to eat up any hit at +1 and KO back (as long as Kingdra has been weakened the previous turn by another mon) with CC. It’s also pretty funny outspeeding things like Omastar in rain and KO’ing with CC before it can get too out of hand. There has been times when I wished I had my Mienshao or Heracross but honestly, being so fast and being one of the most reliable switch in’s to Umbreon in the meta made sure it was guaranteed a spot on my team but hey, I’m always open to changing it if a better Pokemon is suggested.
Threats
Losing the surprise value of the team is honestly the number one threat. Make sure you pick and choose your opportunities to let the opponent know you are running SpecsPert or Scarf Cobalion and make sure they result in a dead pokemon. Don’t waste it on a weak Volt Wwitch on Scarf Heracross or a Hydro Pump on Suicune, try and maintain the illusion of standard because everyone always assumes standard first and gimmicks later.
Other than that the team never really had a problem with anything in particular, Zapdos with HP grass now better deals with those pesky Rhyperiors but aside from that, suggestions are always welcome and I will continue to update the threat if people can point out any threats/flaws in the team that I didn’t pick up from battling with it.
Hax. Watch out for that, it can be a double edged sword so just hope you’re on the good side of the blade when it swings.
Kingdra. As so kindly pointed out by my buddy, PokeGyarados, strong water attacks can be quite a problem to my team, snorlax can handle it initially but can quickly get out of hand if not dealt with swiftly and effectively. Once snorlax has dropped, getting a switch into zapdos and pressure stalling seems like the best way to handle, i know it''s not super reliable but without adding a grass type/better switch in to water STABs i think that is my best option. Regardless, watch out for this beast.
Concludes and Stuff
But yeah, those are the RMTs, I hope you enjoy reading/trying/critiquing/shunning/whatever, do what you please, sorry if it’s not super magnificent, we couldn’t all be amazing right off the bat. But before I finish up I want to shout out some peeps below.
You can find the importable at the end, you’re welcome to try the teams, I know gen 5 UU is nearly over but hey, maybe these teams can help you to get an understanding of gen 6 UU once it’s released or something. But, that’s all from me, I’ll see you bros round.
Peace.

Ah yes, the win condition. What’s a good quiver pass team without the best quiver passer in the game, Venomoth. Sitting disgustingly low on the usage stats, I hope someday, people will release the true power (and ease) that Venomoth can pass boosts to the designated sweepers.
In most games, Venomoth won’t normally be the lead as with most players, they will try their best to ‘counter lead’ you and stop any potential pass before it has the chance to begin. However, if you see no scarfer that can outspeed and kill Venomoth or a potential sweep from turn 1, then by all means, let the fun begin from turn 1.
For the most part, you’re going to want to pass to Zapdos, Nidoqueen or Raikou because let’s face it, Clamperl can’t be switching in on very much. Having said this though, if you can sleep something and see the opportunity for Clamperl to sweep, I advise you take it, because let’s be frank, it doesn’t come around very often.
