    No, that won't work. Here's why.

    In gen 3, all Pokemon were programed in the game to have two abilities, even if they only really have one ability in gen 3 (like Zigzagoon). Basically think of all gen 3 Pokemon to have "Ability One", and "Ability Two".

    Since Zigzagoon has only one ability in gen 3 (Pick Up, iirc), that would be both "Ability One" and "Ability Two" for it in gen 3.

    If it has "Ability Two", and can still evolve (into Linoone), it will keep "Ability Two". In gen 4, it's "Ability Two" is Gluttony.

    Soft resets won't make any difference. It will have either "Ability One", or "Ability Two" regardless.
