ORAS UU A zelfy

Hey everyone so im very new to the competitive scene and this is my first Rmt. So do forgive any errors made in ignorance. However that being said I started in UU because it had my favourite pokemon Arcanine. I love playing with the heart however I did struggle a lot at the sheer number of Mons out there. but with the constant losses I got a good idea of what each mon runs. Hence i created the following team that actually has started getting me decent results. Wud love to hear what you all think and welcome any advice to help me improve.

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- U-turn
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Energy Ball

Azelf is my star. People expect him to be his standard lead set with stealth rocks and thats where this set shines. Taunting crobats, Swampert, Crawdaunt, are taken out easily and sometimes one after the othervwith Thunderbolt and energy ball. After this he u turns out quick to build momentum. Also with his sash he can come in and hurt the water set up sweepers, NidoKing/Queen, fighting types and aerodactyl

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic

Forretress is one of the most beginner friendly mons out there and there to ensure Azelfs sash remains. Volt switch to get out quick as he can be set up bait and gyro ball to hit Beedrill etc. Toxic has helped to get Fighting types worn down and then have azelf come back in and threaten them.

Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Wave
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Nidoqueen is mainly there to scare out fairies as so GOD help me Florges has really made me cry. Also good vs Fires and fighting. Its got life orb to hit hard and is invested in HP and Defene to last longer in walling. I am in doubt as to whether make her more attacking or defensive with black sludge as an item. Stealth rock is always imporant and it takes a load of Foretress. Roar to remove water set up mons like Gyarados etc.

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Wish

Here to scare away dragons. And completes the Dragon /Fairy/ Steel core. Baton pass gains momentum in in coming steel and poisons. Calm mind to boost its attacks and then maybe baton pass to Azelf, Hydreigon or sometimes Nidoqueen. Wish can also be Baton passed.

Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
- Fire Blast

Life orbed to give my freedom of choice and the ability to u turn out if I miss predict on a fairy to Nidoqueen. Dark pulse and Fireblast for steels. Has really good synergy with my team mates.

Mienshao @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace

And to wrap it up, my scarfer..... MR SHAODOWN himself! Revenge killer with high jump kick. u turn for momentum. Ariel ace and Stone edge for coverage. I dont have Fake out as All going well once azelf gets dragon dance mons health low, This guy still outspeeds . High Jump kick is lethal and has actuall made we win games i Thought were lost.

So this is it, As you can see my I like the style of Volturn and putting pressure. Looking forward to hearing everyones views. I still struggle against super bulky mons if i lose its check/ counter early. Also Psychics that have fairy attack really play mind games when they come in on Nidoqueen as I do switch to Hydra. However if im feeling brave Il sludge wave or just switch to Sylveon as the overall safe play. But yeah Cresselia is the worst!

Hey there, cool looking team, but it can use some improvement. Let's get into the rate! :]
  • First off, Azelf is a cool attacker, and the surprise factor is usually pretty awesome as most people expect a suicide lead attacker. However, your set can be improved. I suggest using Psyshock > Psychic, Nasty Plot > U-turn (also Flamethrower > Thunderbolt or Energy Ball can be useful, but it's really just preference. This is especially useful to hit Forretress and Celebi Dazzling Gleam can also be used to hit Hydreigon and other Dark types.) The reasoning being Azelf can get a free Nasty Plot off with Focus Sash and hit extremely hard from there. U-turn is relatively useless because it doesn't really do anything for this set as set-up sweeper is better because you won't want to be switching out, as Azelf is ideally the cleaner here. The extra coverage and power boost is much appreciated. Psyshock helps you smash through Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Florges (so it can't Calm Mind on you in this case).
  • Forretress is a pretty good glue Pokemon here, but I would suggest using the Specially Defensive set with 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def with a Careful Nature, Specs Sylveon is a gigantic threat to this team, and you have absolutely no switch-in, and it can come in for free on Hydreigon if you don't click U-turn. I would also suggest using Heavy Slam > Gyro Ball and Spikes > Toxic which gives you a nice hazard stacking core with Nidoqueen and Forretress and a way to pressure Florges and Sylveon. This will make more sense later with the additional changes.
  • Nidoqueen is a great Pokemon, but honestly that set doesn't make any sense. Use an offensive spread of 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe with a Modest Nature. This spread allows you to outspeed max speed Modest Sylveon and pressure it with Sludge Wave. Ice Beam > Roar is really handy here because you can pressure Pokemon like Gligar and Crobat, and overall provides great coverage.
  • >
With Forretress now your special sponge(kinda), Suicune is here to sponge any physical attacks, as well as checking important fire types such as Darmanitan and Entei. It provides a really nice defensive core with Forretress, adequately covering each other's weakness and just having really good synergy overall. Use a set with 240 HP / 212 Def / 56 Spe with a Bold Nature and Leftovers. This spread allows you to creep max Speed Modest Sylveon and allow you to get a Calm Mind off before it can smack you with a Hyper Voice. 240 HP hits a Leftovers number while the rest of the EVs are dumped in Defense. Use a moveset of Scald / Calm Mind / Roar / Rest. This set allows you to retain a Roar user that can check Gyarados much better than Nidoqueen can, and a wincon that can beat other Calm Mind users such as standard CroCune, CM Cresselia, and CM Reuniclus.
  • This Pokemon is really awesome glue for this team as it can check Chandelure which absolutely rips through this team. I suggest Roost > U-turn, as Life Orb + U-turn makes Hydreigon get worn down really easily, and you want it to stay healthy so you can check some major threats like the before mentioned Chandelure and possible Crawdaunt. Taunt > Fire Blast can really help with Stallbreaking, but Escavalier and other steel types are a pretty big threat to this team, so honestly I would keep it. (If you do end up wanting Taunt, use Flamethrower > Energy Ball or Thunderbolt on Azelf so that you can break Bulky Steel types.) If you use Superpower, change the nature to Hasty and move the 4 EVs from SpD to Attack.
  • Mienshao is really awesome on this team as a revenge killer, and the set just needs to be tweaked a bit. Reckless > Regenerator gives Mienshao the extra power it needs for High Jump Kick, and Regenerator is pretty mediocre unless you're running the Life Orb set, (which is outclassed imo.) Knock Off > Aerial Ace is really good here, as Aerial Ace is is pretty bad and weak coverage, so Knock Off can be used on predicted Psychic or Eviolite Pokemon switch-ins such as Cresselia or Gligar.
That's it! Hope my changes help you, and good luck with the team in the future!

Hey PinkDragonTamer thanks a ton for the advice. I can def see the changes helping especially with the problems this team currently faces. Suicune also has really nice synergy with the others. Also for Hydreigon roost makes sense and its easy to predict when a fairy comes in on him. taunt on hydra is something I completely overlooked, interesting to annoy specially defensive walls and stuff like Whimsi and crucial in a late 1v1 vs set up mons.
Yes and the changes to Azelf ceratinly will catch blisseys off guard and lead to more late game sweeps.

Now my last doubt would be who do I turn to, to come in on an opposing draco? Maybe Suicune himself or forretress but hes needed for soo many others like Mega beedril.
Apart from that I cant wait to get started and try your suggestions. cheers!

Yea getting rid of your dragon immunity was a problem that I was worrying about, but forretress can take a couple dracos too. Try to pressure Hydreigon enough that it can't come in for free, which your team does rather well escort for maybe Azelf. If you're really worried about that weakness try to fit Dazzling Gleam on Azelf maybe, but if hudreigon or something else does Draco, Suicune can come in for free on the -2 Pokemon and start setting up.

If forretress gets worn down then to can always revenge beedrill with scarf stone edge from mienshao and Nidoqueen can tank a few Uturns and Poison Jabs. If you're willing to give up roar support on Suicune which personally I wouldn't recommend, you can run Sleep Talk over Roar on Suicune to help deal with beedrill better

Sounds good. The team is functioning much smoother already especially in longer matches. Thank you once again for all your great inputs and one day id love for you to in the future rate a team i make around arcanine!
