Deoxys-S

Another of the Pokemon sent to Ubers from Standard OU due to being too influental in the meta. Deoxys-S has found a home in Dreamworld where he can happily take the throne of being the premier Dual Screener. But what is this? Thundurus is lurking in the shadows ready to taunt Deoxys-S before it can even set rocks!

There are three things Deoxys-S was famous for being able to easily achieve in the Standard OU metagame before he got sent packing. Those three things were:

Deoxys-S @ Light Clay
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SPD / 252 SPE
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
~ Light Screen
~ Reflect
~ Taunt
~ Stealth Rock / Spikes

Deoxys-S @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SPE
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
~ Stealth Rock
~ Spikes
~ Taunt
~ Superpower / Hidden Power Fire

Deoxys-S @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 12 ATK / 244 SpA / 252 SPE
nature: Naive (+Spe, -SpD)
~ Psycho Boost / Psychic
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunderbolt
~ Superpower

The diversity Deoxys-S is able to run will leave many an opponent guessing until its first move is made on the field, and then you'll be left scrambling to either prevent it from setting up full screens, atleast 2 layers of hazards, or killing off key pokemon on your team. Will deoxys-S meet the same fate he did in Standard OU due to how diverse it is? that's for us to decide.

Not only do we have Taunt Thundurus, we have SD Excadrill and ST Chandelure to just outright kill. With ST Chandelure and Technician Loom providing huge impediments to heavy offense, there are less and less reasons to run heavy offense, something Deoxys-S is notable for supporting. A rundown of why the 3 sets are not as good in DW OU.

Hazards: You have Superpower or HP Fire. Who conveniently is immune/resistant to both? ST Chandelure. You predict the obvious Deoxys-S lead, or just switch it in the next turn, holding it to two layers of hazards. And if you did your homework on the DW tier and realized that you should have a Rapid Spinner (let's face it, you really need a spinner in DW, hazards are that bad for things like ST Chandelure and Dragonite, as well as Spikes being extremely common), those two layers or three layers you held Deoxys-S to are gone with one move. Also, you can always go with Thundurus's Prankster Taunt.

Dual Screens: On this set, you have no attacking moves. What does this mean? A free switch in to literally EVERYTHING in the game. Once again, Thundurus's Prankster Taunt is the way to go, not made any harder or easier. Excadrill can outspeed after you lead with that Tyranitar and hold it to one screen. Speaking of Tyranitar, there is no risk of Superpower here, so you can just stay in and go for the Crunch. ST Chandelure once again has absolutely no risk trapping and killing Deoxys-S.

Life Orb Sweeper: Your attacks in this case are pitifully weak. On all but Psycho Boost, ST Chandelure once again has the premier ability to kill Deoxys-S. In this case, Choice Scarf Accelgor can be a useful check. Focus Sash Dugtrio is another options, as well as Chople Berry Tyranitar or Terrakion. One free switch-in to Excadrill gets Deoxys-S out of the way as well. Jolteon can be very useful in this case. Gastrodon completely walls this set as well.

In conclusion, Deoxys-S is anything but broken in the Dream World OU tier. I'd also like to contribute three of my own specialized sets that I use in Dream World OU and used in standard OU:
Substitute + Calm Mind:
Deoxys-S @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Timid / Modest
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe or 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Substitute
Calm Mind
Psychic
Hidden Power Fire

Substitute and Calm Mind is a tried and true strategy, but why on Deoxys-S? The answer is simple speed. You may think that Deoxys-S has better things to do, but it can perform this job fairly well also. Substitute up with your massive speed, Calm Mind once or twice, and then proceed to attack for decent amounts of damage with Psychic and Hidden Power Fire for coverage.

Cosmic Power:
Deoxys S @ Leftovers
Timid / Bold / Calm
252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Cosmic Power
Recover
Substitute
Psychic / Taunt
Set up Cosmic Power with your massive speed to become bulky, set up Substitute to scout incoming attacks, and Recover when needed. Psychic is a reliable attacking move, and Taunt blocks attempts for status, even though it is often less useful because Substitute can do the same thing with the plus of trumping Prankster Thunder Wave or Taunt if you have the sub up.

Ultimate Ghost Trapper:
Deoxys-S @ Life Orb
Hasty / Naive / Rash / Mild / Lonely / Naughty
252 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Pursuit
Shadow Ball
Superpower
Psychic / Stealth Rock
You have Pursuit to catch fleeing ghosts, as well as Shadow Ball to hit the Ghosts for quick reliable super effective damage. Superpower hits Steels and Tyranitar, along with Normal-types. Psychic is your reliable STAB. The aim of this set is to provide a mixed presence, and has perfect coverage between Fighting and Ghost moves, with the addition of absolutely demolishing Ghosts. This is the thing you would bring in after Chandelure killed that Ferrothorn, then proceeding to attack it with Pursuit or Shadow Ball. Running Stealth Rock to support yourself and the team in the last slot is beneficial if you are looking to deal with Chandelure, who dies to a Shadow Ball after Stealth Rock and Pursuit without the switch after Stealth Rock. A layer of Spikes can help ensure the KO. Ultimately, you are looking to kill ghosts, as well as be an all-purpose revenge killer with a bit of a different idea than the standard Life Orb sweeper. The choice of nature is really preference, basically choosing what defense to subtract from, and either to boost speed, attack, or special attack. The EVs make sure that both sides of the spectrum are doing around equal damage.

Anyways, if anybody else has something to contribute, be sure to below!

Deoxys-S @ Rocky Helmet
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)

~ Stealth Rock
~ Spikes
~ Taunt
~ Magic Coat

I've found this set to be more useful than the max Speed one. Magic Coat helps against priority Taunt users and apposing Deoxys-S. The investment in Def means that bulky Tyranitar won't OHKO with Crunch and Choice Scarf Genesect's U-turn will only do a little over 50%. Rocky Helmet deals some damage to both of them as they attack, and can break Focus Sashes on physical attacks, making it easier for your team to sweep.

Also, Deoxys-S should run Jolly with SuperPower.

I've been using this set and it has been extremely effective:

bro (Deoxys-S) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 216 Atk / 40 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Stealth Rock
- Superpower
- Psycho Boost
- Fire Punch

Fire Punch is for Genesect leads, Deoxys outspeeds and OHKOs those. Psycho Boost OHKOs Chandelure and Superpower OHKOs Tar without Chople and Excadrill. Obviously it doesn't work very well against stuff like Jellicent and bulky Psychics but pair it with Tyranitar and it makes for a decent attacking combo.

I'm glad someone finally made a thread about Deo here. As far as will Deoxys's versatility make him Uber? I don't think so for now, but later in the meta-game depending on what gets banned of course that versatility will cause many frustration, because the more over powered Pokemon taken out the more people will want to use this guy as well as other Pokemon. What I think makes him special is that he has a great move pool decent stats, but so much speed and enough bulk to abuse them all. Mew can get more power than Deoxys-S however it needs speed to sweep and not only is Deoxys's speed enough to not worry about much, but its enough to revenge + 1 and 2 Pokemon. Speed alone allows Pokemon like Aerodactyl to have the highest chances of getting out Stealth Rocks, but Deo is much more bulky than Aero and diverse still. So unless the opponent has a spinner or can handle the selected spin blocker from the start with ease Deoxys-S can have 2 or more layers of hazards. That and being a great LO sweeper late game are the largest variations of Deo that make it so powerful. How will it play out in a tier where Excadrill can stop it is the question? If Excadrill leaves?

As versatile as Deoxys-S may be, DW OU has him checked reasonably well.

If suddenly a tier full of Prankster and priority creeps were to wave goodbye to Excadrill and Thundurus, then of course people would then begin to question Deoxys-S' position regarding how diverse its impact can be on the DW OU metagame.

Deoxys-D, however, can tank and effectively survive some of the most outragous attacks this metagame has to offer; unlike Deoxys-S, who suffers from Excadrill's very existence.

But I do like how he can outspeed one of the most effective Choice Scarf users to date in Genesect; not to forget Deo-S can OHKO with Fire Punch/Hidden Power [Fire]. I have been tempted to try a mixed, Occa Berry Genesect because of this and more.
