ORAS OU Get Your Zard Ready


This is my newest OU team that centers around Mega Charizard X, who is quickly becoming one of my favourite Mega Evolutions, alongside Mega Pinsir, Mega Mawile, Mega Sableye and Mega Pidgeot. The team I made are not only built properly around Charizard, but were also tested before put in display. I wanted to make sure that the team works, and so far, it does. So with that said, here's my team:


Team Details

Lizardon (Charizard-Mega-X) (M) @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
The crux of my team, Lizardon is the wallbreaker that's there to destroy everything in sight. His job is easy: set up, and destroy. Roost is there to shrug off recoil damage from Flare Blitz. I chose Dragon Claw over Outrage because I didn't want to risk getting unlucky with confusion.


Bubbles (Manaphy) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance
My other wallbreaker of my team, Bubbles serves the same purpose that Lizardon has, which is to set up and destroy. Although what sets her apart from Lizardon is access to the move Rain Dance and the ability Hydration, making her immune to status conditions.


Strider (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 84 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
- Healing Wish
My defensive Pokemon, Strider can be used to slow down opponent using Thunder Wave, and use Healing Wish to give Lizardon, Bubbles and my other teams a chance to sweep again. Giga Drain and Recover are his method of recovery.


Banhammer (Excadrill) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
With aids of Hungry, Banhammer acts as not only the Sand Sweeper of my team, but also a Stage Hazard controller.


Hungry (Hippowdon) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind
- Earthquake
My other wall of the team to pair up with Strider. Hungry is a Stealth Rock setter to weaken the opponents for Lizardon and Bubbles. Whirlwind is there to deal against set-up Pokemon, and Earthquake is her primary STAB move.


Tigger (Raikou) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Volt Switch
The revenge killer of my team. With an Assault Vest and full investment in offensive power, Tigger has the moves necessary to either deal against opponents that just killed off one of my Pokemon.

Hi, I've some tips for your team!
You try to build a balanced team, but you have only a final condition, if you lose Charizard is really hard to win. Sometimes Serperior can help you, but it isn't the best option

Charizard needs a pokemon who removes SR, but spinner are better than defogger, a pokemon with great synergy with Xzard is Excadrill. Thanks to Hippo you could try the sand rush sweeper, maybe the hatest pokemon in the tier.
Thanks to the fire type Charizard is immune to WoW and it destroy MSableye and lot of physical wall, so I don't think that you need Serperior, you could try Defensive Celebi, it counter lot of bulky water that are dangerous for your team.
You need a pokemon who helps you against bulky ground and rock types. The best option is Manaphy.
Finally you could try AV raikou over SpecsKou.

MANAPHY <- UXIE

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam / Rain Dance
- Energy Ball / Rain Dance

It is a balanced team, and you don't really need dual screen, so Uxie haven't great synergy. Manaphy is a fantstic stallbreaker and helps you against fat ground pokemon, such Hippowodon.

CELEBI <- SERPERIOR

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 84 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
- Healing Wish

Celebi have a great synergy with your team, it counter many threats.
It's your status absorber thanks to natural cure and it is immune to Spore
Your team haven't priority, so you need speed control, and TW is fantastic.
Giga Drain destroys buly water such Swampert.
Healing Wish gives a second chanche to your sweeper.
You don't need Serperior because now you have Manaphy.

EXCADRILL <- MANDIBUZZ

Before you have only a win condition, XZard, now you have Manaphy and Excadrill.

Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide / Sword Dance
- Rapid Spin / Sword Dance

I know that after a SF you write gg in the sand, but in your team Rapid spin is useful and you need Rock Slide to defeat birds, Talonflame and Pinsir over all.
It has a great synergy with Zard, it removes SR for him and destroy many threats. In the sand this mons outspeed all scarf users but Trace Mega Alakazam and Trace Timid Gardevoir. For the second if you prefer you could try a jolly nature, but you lose some power and it isn't useful.

AV RAIKOU <- CS RAIKOU

Raikou @ Assault Vest
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Ice

With AV, your not locked in a move and Raikou is bulkier.

MIXED HIPPOWODON <- PHYSICAL HIPPOWODON

Hippowdon @ Leftovers / Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Toxic / Whrilwind
It works better because avoid 2hko from LO thundurs and MManectric HP ice. I prefer Whirlwind but Toxic is a good option.

after 1 Dragon Dance.
