SM OU Koko + Kyurem-B Core

Hi all; just as a note, I've been out of the OU game for quite some time and decided to make a quick team for low ladder play. Now I'm looking to optimize it for higher ranking play since I've noticed several shortfalls. So here we go!

Tapu Koko @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 104 HP / 12 Def / 176 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

One of the standard sets from the Smogon dex, this set works very well as a bait for Landorus/Zygarde, and if predicted right HP Ice tends to end those sets before they can get a move in. Shuca Berry makes matchups against variants of the two a guaranteed win, but setup and scarf lando can be issues. Tbolt and Volt Switch are there for powerhousing and quick pivots. Electric terrain also helps out with Kyurem-B and prevents sleep overall.

Kyurem-Black @ Icium Z
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Freeze Shock
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power

I've never really gotten a chance to use Kyurem-B till now but it works as my primary wallbreaker. In conjunction with Tapu Koko it gets boltbeam coverage, with a boost to Fusion Bolt thanks to terrain. Typical Koko/Kyurem duo things. Earth Power doesn't get much use although it's good for opposing Koko and Heatran. Ice Beam dents what it needs to very well but Z-Freeze Shock is there for pure muscle against things like Ferrothorn.

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn

Another typical Landorus set, defense oriented. Rocks help this team out decently, and EQ/HP Ice threatens things decently enough. U-Turn is there to complete the Volt-Turn duo out nicely. Not much to talk about with this set really.

Hawlucha @ Electric Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 36 SpD / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- High Jump Kick
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Another typical set that works in conjunction with the core of this team, getting a boost from Koko on electric terrain. Acrobatics/HJK sweeps many teams lacking answers like Zapdos or the such. Roost adds longevity to the set while SD helps guarantee kills.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

One of my favorite sets with Heatran, this set is great for trapping things, as well as countering Scizor and Ferrothorn outright. This set also beats out Toxapex, even though my electric core basically does this too.

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Def / 228 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Earthquake

Tangrowth feels like an afterthought, but adds some much needed bulk to the team. It resists pesky ground types, but opens me up to a whole new avenue of weaknesses. Giga Drain handles things like Greninja, Quagsire, etc. while Knock Off adds mix-ups on predicted switches (notably it can KO some Blacephalons on the switch). HP Fire deals with Ferro and Scizor, while EQ can also deal with opposing Heatrans that might choose to switch in as well.

Overall, the team is doing well for low ladder play but the moment my crucial members are down it all falls apart. Honorable mentions in the weakness department are neverending, but I'll list off some of the ones I've noticed:

  • Some stall variations (especially once Kyurem is down)
  • Lati@s (particularly mega carrying EQ)
  • Psychic spam
  • Flying spam

I appreciate any help!
