Moltres holds an interesting niche in the OU tier as a hazard remover on stall that is able to immensely threaten Stealth Rock setters that are commonly able to bypass Mega Sableye, with the most notable examples being Calm Mind Clefable, Mold Breaker Excadrill, and Heatran, although it must fear Toxic the latter. Thanks to its near-exclusive defensive typing, Moltres has the ability to consistently check common stallbreakers, including Heatran, Kartana, and Tapu Bulu, in addition to having the ability to PP stall said stallbreakers including Tyranitar and Serperior thanks to the combination of Pressure and Substitute. The given EV spread allows Moltres to outspeed both Heatran and Excadrill while having the ability to take a Thunder Punch from Mega Mawile. Moltres most notably struggles with Stealth Rocks, so pairing it with additional forms of hazard control including Gliscor, Mega Sableye and Zapdos are fantastic partners. Wallbreakers such as Zygarde, Hoopa-U and Latios threaten Moltres, so Pokemon such as Clefable and Magearna are also excellent partners.
