Rain is, in my opinion, the best weather hazard in the game by virtue of being the one that has the most abusable options. Swift Swim raises the speed, Hydration cures your pokémon every turn, and Dry Skin and Rain Dish heal HP every turn. Rain also strengthens Water-moves while weakening Fire type moves and raises the accuracy of Hurricane and Thunder benefitting Water-, Flying-, and Electric-type pokémon. All these advantages can be used to build a pretty good team and I intended to do this here.
Pelipper @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Roost
- U-turn
- Scald
- Hurricane
I tend to favor Pelipper in spite of Politoed because the bird has U-turn, which allows it to switch better and a reliable recovery move, Roost. Hurricane is a stab that has perfect accuracy in the rain and Scald is a Water-type stab boosted by the rain and may cause a nice burn.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Gentle Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Drill Peck
- Thunder
Zapdos abuses the rain by spamming Thunder with perfect accuracy in it. Since the rain weakens Fire-type moves, Heat Wave is not a rteliable option and Drill Peck seems to me more appropriate. Defog removes entry hazards and Roost is a recovery move.
Latias @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Recover
- Hidden Power [Poison]
- Psyshock
Latias is here to Trick opponents who want to play a stalling game or set-up over it and give them a nice Scarf for their troubles. Hidden Power [Poison] surprises Fairy-types and Psyshock is an offensive stab. Recover allows Latias to stay a bit more in the field.
Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
Kingdra has Swift Swim so it is a natural choice for a rain team. Since its speed is doubled in the downpour, it only makes sense to increase its Special Attack with the Cohoice Specs for maximum damage. Hydro Pump and Surf are its Water stabs, the first sacrificing accuracy for power and the second sacrificing power for accuracy. Dragon Meteor is the stab chosen for when Water is not a suitable move to use. Ice Beam is a coverage option.
Scizor @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
Scizor benefits form the rain because it halves Fire-type moves, its greatest weakness. Since this team relies on two dragons, it also compensates for a certain Fiary -type fragility. The moveset I chose is fairly standard: Roost ensures recovery, Swords Dance sets up the attack, Bullet Punch is a priority, stab enhaced, Technician amplified attack and Knock Off is a nice utility.
Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Facade
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
Mega-Swampert is the powerhouse of this team. Its Ground-typing laughs in the face of opponents tryin to exploit our own rain. Mega-Evolution raises its stats and gives it acess to Swift Swim, so it will almost always use it. Waterfall and Earthquake are its physical stabs and Stone Edge is used to punish a change to a Flying-type pokémon. Facade is used to turn a crippling status into an advantage.
