Fire
========
Rotom-H is an excellent utility Pokemon on Fire-type teams due to its access to both Defog and dual screens, allowing teammates such as Mega Charizard X and Volcarona to set up more easily. A slow Volt Switch allows it to pivot in its teammates to gain momentum and take advantage of its screens and Defog support as well as to chip down annoying Water- and Flying-types such as Suicune and Mantine, which can be somewhat troublesome for Fire-type teams. Levitate grants Rotom-H a Ground-type immunity, which bolsters its supportive and defensive capabilities. This also gives Rotom-H more opportunities to set screens, Defog away entry hazards, and generate momentum by switching in on Pokemon locked into a Ground-type attack such as Choice Band Excadrill. Rotom-H's Electric typing gives it useful resistances to Flying- and Electric-type attacks, allowing it to switch into Staraptor's Brave Bird for Volcarona or Tapu Koko's Thunderbolt for Mega Charizard Y. Unfortunately, its lack of reliable recovery leaves it very easily chipped down throughout the match, hindering its capabilities of fulfilling its supportive role. Rotom-H also relies on its weak Volt Switch to dish out damage to foes, leaving it susceptible to being taken advantage of by setup sweepers that take neutral damage from it or are immune to the move such as Landorus-T, Mega Latias, Kommo-o, and Mega Tyranitar. It receives competition from Torkoal as a hazard remover, but while Torkoal can set up Stealth Rock for the team, Rotom-H has access to the dual screens that Torkoal lacks. Rotom-H and Torkoal can, however, be used on the same team, as they can fulfill different roles.

Reflect gives setup sweepers such as Volcarona and Mega Charizard X better setup opportunities against Pokemon such as Dragonite and Swampert lacking Roar and allows the team to better check threats such as Belly Drum Azumarill. Light Screen bolsters the team's special bulk, allowing the aforementioned setup sweepers to set up against special attackers such as Latios, Porygon-Z, and Hydreigon. Defog allows Rotom-H to clear entry hazards from the field and remove opposing screens, allowing the team to more easily switch around and take advantage of its own screens. Rotom-H's slow Volt Switch allows it to pivot into a teammate in order to gain momentum and take advantage of the screens Rotom-H is able to set.

248 HP EVs maximize Rotom-H's HP stat while allowing it to switch into Stealth Rock five times. 252 Special Defense EVs and a Calm nature allow Rotom-H to tank special attacks such as Life Orb Latios's Draco Meteor, Choice Scarf Nihilego's Power Gem after Stealth Rock damage, and Choice Specs Seismitoad's Scald. The rest of the EVs are invested into Defense to help it take physical attacks better. Light Clay allows its screens to stay up for eight turns rather than five.
Usage Tips
========
Rotom-H should switch in on predicted Ground-type attacks for its teammates, but it should be careful of Pokemon with other powerful STAB attacks that could severely weaken it such as Garchomp's Devastating Drake. It should also watch out for Pokemon whose abilities or moves ignore Levitate such as Mold Breaker Excadrill with Earthquake, Kyurem-B with Earth Power, and Landorus with Gravity. Rotom-H should try to switch in when Stealth Rock is being set up to be able to clear away entry hazards without taking the chip damage unless it is up against certain Stealth Rock setters such as Tyranitar that threaten it. As soon as all of the checks to Volcarona, Mega Charizard X, and Z-Celebrate Victini have been weakened, Rotom-H should set up screens and bring them in with Volt Switch so they can easily set up and proceed to clean. Due to Fire-types being weak to Stealth Rock, it is extremely important to keep Rotom-H healthy throughout the battle so that it can consistently remove hazards. Do not allow setup sweepers such as Mega Gallade to take advantage of Rotom-H's passive nature by pivoting into a check such as Choice Scarf Blacephalon. Instead of switching into a wallbreaker directly, use Rotom-H as a slow pivot with Volt Switch once hazards are cleared to keep your wallbreakers, setup sweepers, and cleaners such as Volcarona and Mega Charizard X healthy. Due to Rotom-H's only attacking move being Volt Switch, Taunt users such as Gliscor can easily shut it down and prevent it from clearing hazards or setting up screens. Since Rotom-H is not intrinsically slow, it should be careful of pivoting out of wallbreakers or slower threats such as Tyranitar, which can OHKO or heavily damage a majority of the team with Stone Edge. Rotom-H should hard switch out to another Pokemon rather than Volt Switching when faced with Pokemon that can set up hazards while also threatening it, such as Armaldo.
Team Options
========
Wallbreakers such as Infernape and Blacephalon appreciate Rotom-H's ability to safely bring them in. Choice Band Infernape can take on Pokemon such as Chansey and can 2HKO Staraptor with Close Combat while also being able to revenge kill key threats with Mach Punch such as Choice Scarf Greninja and Excadrill in sand with minimal prior chip damage. Choice Specs Blacephalon in return can take care of annoying Pokemon for Rotom-H such as Mew, which can prevent Rotom-H from setting screens with Taunt and clear them away with Defog. Revenge killers such as Choice Scarf Infernape and Blacephalon appreciate Rotom-H's ability to clear away hazards from the field, allowing them to take care of Choice Scarf Nihilego and Life Orb Latios, respectively. Setup sweepers such as Mega Charizard X and Volcarona appreciate Rotom-H's ability to set screens, clear hazards, and safely pivot them in with Volt Switch, allowing them to set up and sweep with more ease. Rotom-H appreciates Mega Charizard X's ability to take care of annoying Pokemon such as Dragonite and sweep through Water-type teams at +2 with Dragon Claw and Earthquake, while Volcarona can take care of Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types such as Seismitoad, which can not only set up Stealth Rock and remove Rotom-H's Light Clay with Knock Off but also prevent Rotom-H from safely bringing out a teammate with Volt Switch. Heatran is a nice specially defensive tank that is able to take on key threats such as Nihilego and Mega Diancie that do not have Earth Power. Heatran can also set up Stealth Rock to chip opposing Defoggers, limiting their ability to remove screens set by Rotom-H. Victini is a fantastic wallbreaker with virtually no switch-ins to sun-boosted V-create bar walls like Hippowdon and Toxapex. Victini also can cripple Pokemon holding Eviolite such as Chansey and Porygon2 with Trick. In return, Victini benefits from Rotom-H's ability to pivot it in safely with Volt Switch and its immunity to Ground-type attacks. Victini can also use Z-Celebrate, which allows it to take out some problematic Pokemon such as Heatran on Steel-type teams with +1 Focus Blast. Mega Charizard Y is also a fantastic wallbreaker and appreciates Rotom-H's ability to clear Stealth Rock, and in return, it can threaten Rock-, Ground-, and Water-type Pokemon such as Swampert and Keldeo with Solar Beam. Volcanion is immune to Water-type attacks, allowing it to easily come in on threats such as Belly Drum Azumarill and OHKO it with Choice Specs-boosted Sludge Wave or Bloom Doom. Volcanion also appreciates Rotom-H's ability to remove hazards from the field, as it can switch into more Water-type attacks with hazards removed. Torkoal can also be used as a secondary hazard remover with Rotom-H and is able to set up harsh sunlight, allowing setup sweepers such as Z-Celebrate Victini and Mega Charizard X to even further take advantage of Rotom-H's screens.

Rotom-H can use a set of Will-O-Wisp / Defog / Volt Switch / Overheat with Leftovers, allowing it to cripple the other team with Will-O-Wisp and switch into hazards more times; however, the lack of dual screen support gives setup sweepers like Mega Charizard X less opportunities to set up. Overheat allows Rotom-H to hit Ground-types such as Excadrill and Landorus, which it could not with Volt Switch. Leftovers sets can also run Thunder Wave to slow down faster threats, allowing the team's wallbreakers and sweepers to clean late-game with ease. Choice Scarf allows it to take on a more offensive pivot role with Overheat / Volt Switch / Hidden Power Ice / Defog. A Choice Scarf set lures in typical checks such as Landorus-T and Garchomp, which can usually use Rotom-H as setup fodder, and heavily damage them with Hidden Power Ice. However, Pokemon such as Infernape, Blacephalon, and Victini are much better Choice Scarf Pokemon for Fire-type teams, while Rotom-H is better used with a utility set.
Checks and Counters
===================
Fire
--------
**Fast Water-types**: Water-type Pokemon such as Choice Specs Keldeo and Kingdra threaten Rotom-H's ability to clear hazards and set up screens due to their naturally higher Speed and are able to OHKO Rotom-H with their Water-type STAB attacks, though they fail to do so in the sun. Pokemon such as Mega Swampert and Seismitoad are especially annoying, as they not only outspeed Rotom-H and OHKO it with their strong STAB attacks but also can continually set up Stealth Rock in front of it without fearing Volt Switch. However, Mega Swampert should scout for Rotom-H variants with Will-O-Wisp before it tries to set up Stealth Rock in front of it.
**Ground-type Pokemon**: Ground-type Pokemon are immune to Rotom-H's only attacking move in Volt Switch, allowing them to freely come in and continually set up Stealth Rock or force Rotom-H out with their powerful attacks. Garchomp and Excadrill can both easily set up Swords Dance in front of Rotom-H and OHKO it with a boosted Devastating Drake or Rock Slide, respectively. Landorus can use Rotom-H to set up a free Gravity, allowing it to threaten every switch-in with Earth Power.
**Rock-types**: Offensive Rock-type Pokemon such as Mega Diancie and Terrakion outspeed Rotom-H and threaten to OHKO it with their strong STAB attacks.
**Defog**: Defog users such as Latios and Mew can clear the field of the screens Rotom-H sets. Gliscor and Landorus-T can also Defog away screens and are immune to Rotom-H's Volt Switch.
**Taunt**: Since Rotom-H is reliant on support moves to benefit the team, Pokemon such as Tapu Koko that carry Taunt completely shut it down. However, Taunt users can be used by Rotom-H to gain momentum with Volt Switch. Unfortunately, Krookodile specifically outspeeds Rotom-H and also is immune to Volt Switch.
**Wallbreakers**: Due to Rotom-H's low Speed tier, it is vulnerable to being outsped and OHKOed before Defogging away hazards or setting up screens by faster wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Keldeo, Devastating Drake Garchomp, and Life Orb Earth Power Kyurem-B.
**Trick**: Choiced Trick users such as Choice Scarf Latios, Gengar, and Victini can cripple Rotom-H by taking away its Light Clay and locking it into using one move.
**Residual Damage**: Toxic, Stealth Rock, and other forms of chip damage limit Rotom H's longevity, limiting its opportunities to switch in, clear hazards from the field, and set up screens. Pokemon such as Hippowdon can set up Stealth Rock, poison Rotom-H with Toxic, and chip it with sand damage. Due to the fact that Rotom-H relies on Light Clay to extend the turn of its screens, it is not able to carry Leftovers, making residual damage and switching into Stealth Rock harder to deal with.
**Mold Breaker Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and Excadrill, with access to powerful Ground-type attacks such as Earth Power and Earthquake, ignore Levitate due to their abilities and can OHKO Rotom-H.
