randomly had this idea and had to write it out. nowhere better to post it. i haven't checked if anyone has tried similar things in the past.

saboteur simulchess

two teams, each with playercount / 2 players, one of which is a saboteur. players are informed which team they're on and whether they are their team's saboteur or not.

each turn, each player secretly submits a move in the form [board space] to [board space]

each player has a priority number, and the moves are resolved from highest to lowest. the saboteurs have the highest priority. for each priority number, each team has one player with it, and their respective moves are resolved simultaneously. players are not informed of their priority number.

for normal players, their move goes through if their move is a piece belonging to their team can make at the current board state. if it moves into another piece, that piece is captured, regardless of which team it's on. if two pieces simultaneously move onto the same space, they capture one another.

saboteurs work similarly, but they move their enemy's pieces instead.

once a turn is resolved, players are informed of the final boardstate but not any of the intermediate steps.

mate and checkmate don't really make sense with a large number of moves submitted simultaneously, so victory is achieved by capturing the king

outside communication is allowed, but be wary of the saboteur!
