Moves
========
Focus Blast is used to get past Normal-types like Audino and Type: Null and is also Simisear's best option against Lanturn, Pyukumuku, and Turtonator. Grass Knot targets Ground- and Water-types like Gastrodon and Jellicent. It also provides Simisear with a more reliable way of hitting Regirock. Overheat gives Simisear a powerful one-time nuke to get past Pokemon like Assault Vest Hitmonchan more easily. Flamethrower is an option for a more accurate but less powerful STAB move when the added power isn't needed or when Simisear is able to clean. Alternatively, Hidden Power Ice hits Altaria, which otherwise switches into Simisear without many issues, but it isn't very useful outside of that.
Set Details
========
Blaze allows Simisear to 2HKO Audino with Fire Blast and makes its STAB moves considerably stronger when low on health. A Timid nature is chosen over a Modest nature to outspeed threats like Swanna, Oricorio-E, and non-Choice Scarf Primeape while allowing Simisear to better take advantage of Pokemon like Cryogonal.
Usage Tips
========
Due to its mediocre bulk, Simisear should never be brought in directly but rather via U-turn or Volt Switch, to revenge kill, or on an aggressive double switch. If predicting a Pokemon like Regirock, Audino, or Jellicent to switch in, using the right coverage move makes it considerably easier for Simisear to spam its STAB moves later on. Be cautious of what you lock Simisear into and when to use Overheat; threats like Carracosta, Omastar, Oricorio-G, and Stoutland can take advantage of Simisear if it's locked into the wrong move or weakened due to Overheat's secondary effect. Therefore, if you don't have an answer to these threats, it shouldn't be locked into a move that could give them a setup opportunity. While this set's main goal is to act as a powerful wallbreaker early- to mid-game, its good Speed tier also allows it to revenge kill threats like Victreebel, Rotom-F, and Stoutland or clean the opponent's team late-game. If it's possible for Simisear to clean, it is very important to keep it healthy as to not put it in range of priority moves such as Skuntank's Sucker Punch and Gurdurr's Mach Punch.
Team Options
========
Simisear greatly appreciates U-turn and Volt Switch support from the likes of Primeape, Scyther, Eelektross, and Lanturn. Primeape and Swords Dance Scyther appreciate Simisear dealing with walls like Musharna and Regirock; in exchange, they deal with special walls like Type: Null. Eelektross and Lanturn are capable of pivoting into Pokemon that force a Choice-locked Simisear out, like Jellicent. Lanturn also brings in Ferroseed and Clefairy for Simisear to take advantage of. Entry hazards leave Simisear extremely vulnerable to being revenge killed by Pokemon like Alolan Raichu and Absol. Due to this, entry hazard removers such as Swanna and Lurantis are greatly appreciated. Swanna and Simisear can weaken shared answers like Lanturn for each other, while Lurantis deals with Audino, Carbink, and the aforementioned Lanturn and appreciates Simisear's ability to deal with Articuno. While Simisear does hit hard, it often misses out on potential OHKOs and 2HKOs. Therefore, entry hazard setters like Torterra, Ferroseed, Qwilfish, and Regirock make for amazing partners. All of them can switch into threats that force Simisear out like Lycanroc, Hitmonchan, and Kangaskhan, and Torterra also deals with Carbink and most special walls and appreciates Simisear getting rid of Tangela. Pokemon that can deal with threats like Lycanroc and Choice Scarf Primeape, such as Tangela and Mudsdale, are also very appreciated. Tangela can put Pokemon to sleep for Simisear to take advantage of, while Mudsdale can set Stealth Rock to ease Simisear's job. Finally, Stoutland and other physical wallbreakers such as Choice Band Absol are amazing partners, as they deal with special walls such as Lanturn and can trap them, making it way easier for Simisear to use its STAB moves. In return, Simisear deals with physical walls like Tangela.
