Hi,

The focus of this article is the enigmatic son of Devon Corporation's CEO, Steven Stone. He was an instant favourite among fans in his Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire debut and while his cameo appearances in games such as HeartGold were fun, many are eagerly awaiting his return to a leading role. Recent news, having revealed his revamped character design and offering glimpses at his team, only serves to increase the excitement. As such, I'd like to review the role Steven played back in the third generation, discuss the new features he's been granted and speculate as to how his role may have changed due to the presence of Mega Stones and the like.

1. Introduction
- This will follow in a similar vein to the above. Example:

"Steven Stone- heir to the multimillion dollar Devon Corporation, skilled Trainer and rock enthusiast- makes his return in this fall's eagerly awaited remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire...."

2. Overview
- Review the role he played in Ruby and Sapphire
-> Mysterious recurrent appearances throughout the plot to advise the player
-> Affects the plot in major (helps resolve Groudon-Kyogre conflict) and minor ways (ex. gives Devon Scope to player to identify Kecleon)
-> Turns out to be the League Champion and later departs on a journey, leaving a gift behind for the player: the rare Pokemon Beldum

3. Off the Radar
"I've decided to do a little soul-searching and train on the road. I don't plan to return home for some time."
~ Steven Stone

-What is known: travelled to Johto, Kanto, and Unova to research stones such as Soul Dew and compete in major tournaments, as demonstrated by appearances in HG / SS and B2 / W2 (simply using acronyms for convenience right now, will write it out properly)
-What is not known: presumably, he explored Kalos, initially attracted by the fossil mine in Ambrette Town and the rock formations in Geosenge Town. A fateful encounter must have led him to Shalour City and its Tower of Mastery, where he began to learn about the Mega Evolutions. This led him to Anistar City and its sundial, which he used to track Mega Stones for his own Pokemon.

4. Mega Pokemon
-
Acquired the Mega Brooch over the course of his travels, permitting him to command powerful Megas (in describing the fancy-looking Mega Brooch, will briefly go over changes to his design)
- Uncertainty: Mega Charizard X, which was shown near him in a Coro Coro image
-> Rumoured to be Level 100; would add considerable difficulty to the game, which may be Game Freak's intention after countless accusations that X/Y were too easy
-> Wallace would be the only mono-user Champion left in Pokemon's history
-> Unlikely that Steven has this, though; more likely, it was simply there as a showcase
- Mega Metagross
-> While his Metagross was always his highest-levelled Pokemon, the announcement of this Mega means that Steven would receive a true signature Pokemon
- > Mega Metagross will receive an enormous boost to Speed, in addition to improvements in Attack, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense; also discuss aesthetic changes
- > Monstrously powerful and will make battling Steven far more of a challenge
- Another potential Mega: Mega Aggron
- > Steel-type and thus fits with Steven's traditional team theme
- > Steven may use a team with Mega Aggron when you fight him at the League. However, when you challenge him in Meteor Falls, he will bring the considerably more threatening Mega Metagross

5. Role in the Plot
- Will retain role as advisor and helper as in the original games
- However, he has an added role: he is searching for the secret of Mega Evolutions
- > Will inform the player of Mega Evolutions
- > May give player the Mega item (i.e. Brooch, Ring or what not) and guide the player toward the site of Mega Stones (for instance, Meteor Falls)
- > Much like Korrina in XY, will train the player in using Megas in a Mega-to-Mega battle
- As the study of rocks is his specialty, he will be closely tied with Diancie
- > Helps the player find Diancie and/or summon its Mega form (perhaps to help stop the conflict between Groudon and Kyogre)
- Will be essential to stopping the conflict incited by Team Magma and Team Aqua causing the rousing of Groudon and Kyogre
- > Primal reversion: devolving rather than evolving, as such, a conceptual opposite of Mega Evolution
- > Steven's goal (learn the secret of Mega Evolutions) may help him and player to figure out how to reverse the Primal transformation of Groudon and Kyogre (presumably a negative thing, as devolution has negative associations)

6. Conclusion
- Summation of what was discussed

Thank you for your time and the opportunity!

Alright, you should now have access to our workshop. Here's some general advice for all new writers:

1) Get your stuff done on time. If there's ever a situation that comes up, talk with The Smog Staff, and we'll make accommodations. The key here is communication; we need to hear from you if something is up that will prevent you from meeting the deadline. Try to get your stuff done in two weeks if possible, in order to give the GP/HTML/art team time to get everything done.

2) Don't leak any of our stuff until the release happens. This includes art and any other information. If you ever want feedback on your work or have questions, you can join us in #thesmog on IRC (if you don't have IRC, you can PM me or another staffer on the forums and I'll give you a link).

If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask The Smog Staff. When you post your thread in the Article Workshop, you need to set labels for it. You'll need to set the issue's number too. For the tags that say WIP, Grammar, etc, those are the stages your article are in. Since you'll ideally be working on the article after posting your thread, mark it as WIP. When you finish, move it to Grammar and get it checked twice by other people. Afterward is the HTML stage and someone will put it into HTML code. Your article will eventually get art done for it and it'll be complete!
Welcome to the force!
