TIME IS UP!
While the Panel of Judges are finalizing the scores (which will be revealed real soon), the Chairman has now returned to reveal the secret ingredient for the sixth episode of Iron Chef! Now lift up the domes!

7.8/10 TOO MUCH WATER!

IGN released a review for Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire that brought a running gag to almost all of the gamer communities out there, especially with the comment being too much water. So, in relation to this secret ingredient, aspiring participants must build a team featuring at least one Pokemon from each of the following Egg groups: Water 1, Water 2, and Water 3. A Pokemon that has two of those in their egg groups count as one of both (i.e. Omastar and Kabutops being Water 1 and Water 3 in the egg group counts as both Water 1 and Water 3).

Aspiring participants have until
SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 9:30 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to Chairman Euphonos through the Conversation section of the Forums.

Please read how to submit your team here! | Feel free to talk Iron Chef-related stuff in this Discord server!

TIME IS UP!
Apologies for the slight delay! Voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

With Crawdaunt, Octillery, and Galarian Slowbro being sprung into mind as the components for this episode's secret ingredient, this team makes use of Trick Room to compensate for their slow Speed stats and terrorize the opposition. Crawdaunt takes advantage of Adaptability; Octillery takes advantage of Sniper; Galarian Slowbro takes advantage of Belly Drum alongside Quick Draw and Quick Claw to outrun a lot of Pokemon even outside of Trick Room. Claydol, Porygon2, and Uxie provide Trick Room for the team and provide momentum for the secret ingredient to shine: the former two with Teleport, and the latter with U-turn.

The team's aim is to keep Electric Terrain up through Tapu Koko as Alolan Raichu and Clawitzer (with Terrain Pulse) can capitalize on their wall breaking potential. Archeops serves as a suicide lead through Stealth Rock and Endeavor, and then Galarian Zapdos serves as a check for Defoggers that could trigger its Defiant ability. Finally, Seaking is placed in this team to cover Ground (through Flying) and Electric attacks (through Lightning Rod) and to serve as the team's late-game attacker.

Cursola and Gyarados are the focal point for this team's secret ingredient by taking advantage of Substitute, which is then bolstered by Toxapex with Toxic Spikes to wear down opponents. Speaking of wearing down opponents, Moltres provides burns for Pokemon who are immune to Poison through Scorching Sands and its Flame Body ability, while Dragapult backs it up with Scald and takes down worn-out opponents with Hex. Finally, Landorus-Therian binds the whole team together with its utility options like Stealth Rock, Knock Off, and U-turn.

This balanced team features secret ingredients that serve as a pair to complement each other's roles. Scarf Archeops provides the speed control the team needs, while Alolan Marowak attempts to break would-be walls. Slowking and Corviknight provide a near-impregnable defense from common attacks and provides recovery and utility options: Slowking with Toxic, Slack Off, and Teleport, and Corviknight with its Rocky Helmet attached, Roost, and Defog. Gyarados and Celebi serve as the team's late-game attackers; Gyarados has Dragon Dance to provide the Speed boost while progressively getting stronger through Moxie, while Celebi has Nasty Plot to break through would-be walls, and has Earth Power to take down Poison- and Steel-types getting in the way for a sweep.

. . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community (including fellow participants and Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Functionality. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:
CREATIVITY: Team 2, Team 1
ESSENCE: Team 1, Team 3
FUNCTIONALITY: Team 4, Team 3

If you elect to put in the reasoning behind those votes (which the Chairman encourages but people may not opt to), please refer to this:
CREATIVITY:
1. Team 2 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 1 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 1 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 4 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its functionality quite well!
2. Team 3 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
. . . . . . . . .
Voters (except Iron Chefs and fellow participants) may also include in their voting post in this thread on which among the participants built which team. Here will be the template:

Episode 6 guesses [The Number Man, longhiep341, sandragon13, Euphonos]:

Team 1 -
Team 2 -
Team 3 -
Team 4 -
Note that the quote above contains already the list of participants for this episode.

The voter who gets the most accurate predictions over the course of the entire season will have his name etched in the Hall of Fame for bragging rights.
. . . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community has until
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26, 9:30 AM EST
to cast a vote on this thread who has
the most original,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever put up this episode, and to guess which team belongs to which participant.

Hello everyone! Apologies for the delay, but I'm stepping in for UT to give you Episode 5's big reveal!

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Throat spray + Unburden on Sceptile is a really cool idea but the downside is a frail mon has to use a -6 priority move to get the boosts. Buzzwole is an interesting typing that can check rillaboom and potentially snowball against slower teams.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
Most of the sound based moves seem tacked on to fulfill the secret ingredient rather than serve the team well. Pure Fairy-type Primarina with Water- and Psychic-type coverage doesn't make much sense and Normal/Psychic Sylveon without Fairy-type stab is strange.

FUNCTIONALITY: 3 / 10
At first glance, webs with Marowak-Alola and Buzzwole looks fine, but neither have speed investment so they are likely still slower than faster offensive threats after the Speed drop. The team lacks hazard removal and hazards itself outside of sticky web, which again doesn't serve the team well.

TOTAL SCORE: 8.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. PandaDoux

This team belongs to ponchlake.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Hazard stack with double Water, Ground, Dark, and triple Steel with mostly all commonly used mons doesn't scream creativity but the Metal Sound trapper Heatran is pretty neat here.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
Metal sound is one of the tougher sound-based moves to fit on here and it works very well on the Heatran set. Roar is one of the easier moves to fit on teams due to many viable mons accessing it and this team uses it twice rather than opting for a different move.

FUNCTIONALITY: 7 / 10
This team looks fairly standard on most counts and appears that it would function fairly well against most teams. Hazard stacking is always helpful but the doubling down on typings seems like it could put this team in a bind against certain threats. Garchomp is missing out on Poison Jab when running Toxic as it makes it more easily walled by Fairy-types.

TOTAL SCORE: 11.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. Mossy Sandwich
WIN vs. The Number Man
LOSS vs. PandaDoux
LOSS vs. Siamato

This team belongs to Clasmia.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Pangoro is a unique choice in Camomons that hits hard with a Choice Band. Specs Thundurus-T is an interesting choice with Poison/Fighting typing that relies on a fairly unreliable Focus Blast. Shed Shell on Salamence is uncommon but prevents it from being trapped by opposing Heatran.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
Parting Shot on a slower breaker Pangoro seems like a nice way to bring in the team's other breakers and gain momentum. Roar with Stealth Rock on Heatran keeps the team from being set up on easily and Kommo-o is the fairly standard Boomburst + Clang Soul set.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5.5 / 10
Iron Fist doesn't do much for Pangoro here outside of coverage and its EV spread doesn't seem to do much outside of speed creeping uninvested Volcanion. Outside of priority from Rillaboom, the team is fairly slow and looks like it could struggle against Garchomp and other faster threats like Lycanroc-D and Dragapult.

TOTAL SCORE: 12 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. Chairman Euphonos [contingent]

This team belongs to DuckeryDoodle.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Exploud is an interesting Boomburst user that can hit Ghost/Normal Blissey and Zoroark is a niche lure that can also disrupt with Trick, but doubling up on Normal/Ghost typing doesn't seem ideal for a lure especially when both are checked by Steel-types. Pangoro seems to be a decent set but is still slow and frail.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
A pretty good Boomburst user, and decent users of Parting Shot and Hyper Voice fill the secret ingredient requirements but the repeat of the Ghost/Normal typing still doesn't sit well here.

FUNCTIONALITY: 3 / 10
Outside of Zoroark, this team is incredibly slow and fairly passive. Breakers Exploud and Pangoro lack the power needed to really take down foes and are slow enough to be vulnerable to attacks before doing damage. Moonblast doesn't fit on Dark/Poison Clefable well at all and Gyro Ball on Bulk Up Buzzwole doesn't make sense when Iron Head is a much better option.

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. PandaDoux
LOSS vs. Siamato

This team belongs to Chairman and Guest Iron Chef Euphonos.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
As a standalone threat, Switcheroo + Ring Target Noivern seems to be spread too thin to get much progress but pairing it with Normal/Ghost Porygon-Z and a Guts Facade user makes it better.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
This team manages three separate sound-based moves on users that can each hit hard and disrupt the opposing team in various ways to give the team momentum.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5 / 10
This team's functionality seems to ride on tricking Ghost-types the ring target. While this is cool in theory, it isn't easy to do and it seems redundant when Obstagoon already handles Ghost/Normal Blissey and strange when Porygon-Z and Noivern fail to 3HKO Blissey with their STAB moves. Necrozma's EV spread doesn't seem to serve a particular purpose either, with 200 speed hitting no relevant benchmark. Porygon-Z's Scarf is needed to give this team some speed, but also seems to hold back its breaking potential especially with a less spammable dual STAB.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. Mossy Sandwich
LOSS vs. PandaDoux
LOSS vs. Siamato

This team belongs to longhiep341.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
Perrserker and Flygon are unique choices in the metagame and pairing Steely Spirit with Doom Desire is a nice idea. Jirachi's typing is uncommon for it but serves the team well as a pivot.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
Initially seeing Metal Sound on Perrserker looks off, as if to only satisfy the ingredient, but when paired with Doom Desire Jirachi it makes much more sense to lure in physically defensive Steel-type resists like Salamence and hit them hard with Doom Desire. That being said, Perrserker has poor bulk and overall stats to pull off this role of a lure. Roar on Avalugg is good to ward off physical setup threats. Kommo-o is a decent rocker with a nice Dragon/Steel typing if only to satisfy the secret ingredient with Clanging Scales.

FUNCTIONALITY: 4 / 10
Despite the neat interaction of Doom Desire and Steely Spirit, this team is lacking in specially defensive Pokemon which means special threats like Dragapult and Porygon-Z can claim a KO almost every time they come in. Flygon is an ok set with speed EVs to outpace Magearna, but lacking a nature hurts its offensive output.

TOTAL SCORE: 11 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. The Number Man
LOSS vs. PandaDoux
It's also with regret that I inform you that no one participated in the guessing mini-game for that episode :<

Hello everyone! Apologies for the long undue delay; the reveal for Round 6 is finally here!

This team belongs to longhiep341.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
This looks one of the most interesting teams in this criterion especially this team employs a rather uncommon play style in this metagame: Trick Room. While Uxie and Porygon2 serve as staples for setting up Trick Room, the use of Crawdaunt, Octillery, and Slowbro-Galar are actually good enough to warrant a considerably high score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
The use of Crawdaunt, Octillery, and Slowbro-Galar as the focal points for that episode's secret ingredient is definitely promising, especially with how the team functions. However, with Trick Room being a rather forgotten play style for a reason, there would have been better strategies to use such Pokemon to full effect.

FUNCTIONALITY: 3.5 / 10
Despite this team putting up a win against Iron Chef PandaDoux, it is apparent that the team actually has to rely on sheer luck to make things happen outside of Trick Room. First, Octillery seemed to be the weak link for the role as a breaker under Trick Room especially because of the lack of potent set-up apart from Focus Energy. Second, while a dedicated Trick Room strategy has some degree of success, it would've been more successful if there would be some sort of a sweeper more reliable than Slowbro-Galar when Trick Room ends; in that case, Sharpedo would've been a fantastic choice to replace Octillery.

TOTAL SCORE: 11 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. PandaDoux
LOSS vs. Mossy Sandwich
LOSS vs. Siamato

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
This team is now taking advantage of a cool strategy featuring Alolan Raichu, and not to mention the addition of Seaking to fill in the gaps. This heavily offensive team still had some room to make space for such creativity.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
While the fundamentals for a hyper offensive team is actually there, the problem with the team in terms of this criterion is the use of Seaking that, while an interesting choice to fill in the gaps and at the same time fulfilling the secret ingredient, the Pokemon in itself is not the most optimal one stat-wise.

FUNCTIONALITY: 3 / 10
This team would have scored marginally better in this criterion if this team had employed a different Alolan Raichu set (a standard Nasty Plot set would've been more than enough here; doesn't sacrifice its creativity much especially with that Pokemon being definitely underused for that matter). Also, for Seaking, while definitely a cool choice for filling in the gaps and dealing with Electric types, but since it's not the most optimal Pokemon at this point, a Pokemon simply with a Ground move works incredibly well as an Electric switch-in (like Sharpedo). Other than that, over the six episodes of seeing you showing your absurd strategies, this one has the most potential among them all.

TOTAL SCORE: 10 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. Mossy Sandwich

This team belongs to Iron Chef The Number Man.

CREATIVITY: 1.5 / 5
Cursola stands out as the Pokemon that slightly amped up what could have been a rather standard fare in this criterion. The rest of the Pokemon, such as Gyarados and Moltres, have some form of exposure in high-level tournament play.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The choice of Pokemon for the secret ingredient is actually solid: Toxapex walling almost everything in sight; Gyarados serving as a late-game attacker; Cursola going ham with its offensive type combination and Weak Armor to surprise opponents. However, what made this team scored lower than its perfect score is that while the strategy employed is really sound, the secret ingredient somehow took a backseat and made Dragapult a star in this team due to taking advantage of Hex and a few status-inducing Pokemon such as Toxapex and Moltres.

FUNCTIONALITY: 7 / 10
With a team being this standard, how can it be really effective at what it does? The most notable flaw found in the team is that Pokemon capable of putting STAB through their Ice attacks (Mamoswine with Icicle Crash, Porygon-Z with Ice Beam, among others) could be a pain to deal with, especially with Dragapult being the only one who can resist such attacks. Another optional suggestion would be using Cursola as a straight-up Focus Sash attacker with Stealth Rock in the last slot so that it can just wreck teams before it gets the job done (unless you could have a Healing Wish user in that affair). Other than that, this is one of the most solid teams for this episode.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. Mossy Sandwich

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. Note that this is one of the placeholder teams, and thus doesn't count towards any of the Iron Chef's win/loss records.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
This team ended up being quite a standard fare for this criterion except the presence of Archeops and Alolan Marowak; however, what makes up for the lack of creative options is how uncommon the type combinations are showcased here (Fighting/Flying Corviknight, Dragon/Poison Slowking, Water/Steel Gyarados) which are way beyond the standard type combinations Camomons can give.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
The components for a secret ingredient actually complemented each other's capabilities, especially with Gyarados being paired with Celebi as a way of winning games against the opposition. While Archeops stand out as an interesting choice for this team, it may be quite dead weight with its ability and poor bulk.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5.5 / 10
The concept for a bulky offense team is really sound, especially with having two slow pivots, a revenge killer, and the rest being wall breaker/sweepers. However, this team would have scored better if it weren't for Archeops being a Focus Sash lead with Stealth Rock to take advantage of Endeavor better. The team lacks a switch-in to Ice-type moves from the likes of Porygon-Z, who can easily nail Gyarados with Thunderbolt or a strong neutral attack depending on its typing. Outside of Archeops (being a not-so-reliable revenge killer thanks to Defeatist), the team is fairly slow and could struggle to break past and deal with certain Garchomp variants, especially those with Poison Jab and/or Earthquake in their arsenal.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. Mossy Sandwich

Hello, everyone! First of all, I truly apologize for the huge delays that has caused since that last episode.

It took me some time to contemplate and I finally decided to close this project prematurely. I envisioned it to have a nine-episode project; however, lots of things happened that stalled this project for such a long time.

Iron Chef would have not been in this situation if it weren't for the staff I have handpicked in order to keep this project afloat. With that, I would like to thank Iron Chefs The Number Man, Mossy Sandwich, PandaDoux, and Siamato, and to the Panel of Judges whom I didn't get to introduce within this project: Byleth, a loser, and Dragonillis, for helping me out with this rather ambitious project. Oh, not to mention Interim Chairman UT for accepting my invitation to be the Interim Chairman despite having timing issues during Episode 5!

While the project is now declared as closed, I will still leave it open for a week so that those who wish to leave some few words (whether encouraging, criticizing, and all others), please do not hesitate to do in this thread. Will you still look forward to this project whenever an opportunity arises? Will you be able to participate/contribute in this project in the future? What other things you would want to have with Iron Chef? I am looking forward to all of these answers.

See you all!

I will definitely say a few words here.

First off, huge shout out to Euphonos for all the work, care, and effort he put into this project. Every episode was carefully crafted, and a ton of work was put in behind the scenes by him, the judges, and the chefs to make each episode a success.

In addition to being creative, it was also a great introduction to Camo. I will admit I had never played a game of Camo before, and other non-traditional Camo players like Ponchlake and DuckeryDoodle were enticed to compete as well; Ponchlake and I were each even able to win an episode! In some ways, for a new player, the "secret ingredient" isn't so much a restriction as a guide to figure out where to start in a brand-new meta.

It was also fun to follow as a spectator/voter; seeing the wildly different interpretations of the teams each week was exciting, and really showed the creativity possible in Camo. Each contestant had their own distinct style, especially in the tradeoff between function and creativity, and that was fun to see and learn more about the metagame.

If this project had a flaw, it may be that it was too ambitious. In my (abbreviated, sorry again about the timing) one episode as chairman, I got to see all the effort put into building, scoring, and battling by the chairman/chefs/judges. Even as a player, building a team, writing a blurb, and finding times to schedule against judges could feel like a lot any given week, and it took me a while to understand the premise. I think ultimately for the competitors the cost/benefit was still very much in favor of participating, and if the chairman/judges are motivated it is probably worth it to them, but I understand the challenges this project presented.

I am glad this project happened, and it was fun to participate. Thank you again for all the care, effort, and time you put into this Euphonos, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Late AF sorry but I have thoughts. Speaking as someone who almost got involved but was turned off from doing so.

I feel like the biggest issue this project had was the fact that it's ruleset didn't mesh well with the nature of Camomons. The previous installment had both challengers and Iron Chefs build there team around the central dish: this one did not. I could see such a system work for a large amount of tiers and OMs, but Camo really doesn't fit. Part of the challenge is that you want to make a team that's strong enough to beat an opponent prepared for it, but when said opponent has the luxury of customizing their team in anticipation of what you are required to bring, without having to follow said restriction, it suddenly feels very one-sided against you, especially when the Iron Chefs are among the best players in the metagame. I had to ask myself whether going through the effort of making a team with the imposed limitations was worth doing when my opponent could just bring whatever cracked squad they wanted, and in the end I just lacked any motivation to do so. This was only further compounded by my incorrect (read: stupid) assumption that Iron Chefs were able to see what team you were going to bring prior to a match, which doesn't make a lot of sense in hindsight, but the phrase "they will push your team to its breaking point," is what led to me this conclusion. (I will also add that the line after it doesn't make a lot of sense, given that everyone knows the secret ingredient as it's immediately posted, so if this was meant to explain that the Iron Chefs wouldn't know your team beforehand, it didn't do an amazing job of it.)

Such a challenge feels a lot more approachable and interesting when both parties involved have to make a functioning team out of the secret ingredient, as it helps equalize the playing fields and results in both the challengers and the Iron Chefs having to break out of their comfort zone and experiment with unusual team structures or off-meta picks. You still have to face these reknowned and experienced players, but with the caveat that they are playing on your terms, which I believe makes the resulting teams and matches more exciting. Essentially, I'd rather face Gordon Ramsey in a hotdog cooking competition than one where I have to make the hotdog while he can prepare a surf-and-turn dinner. Like yeah, I'm definitely not the better chef here, but it's a hotdog ffs I could probably hold my own.

It was disheartening to see such a large-scale project sputter out and die before finishing, but, as a spectator to the whole situation, I do feel it was the wake-up call Camomons needed after such a troubled generation. I imagine I wasn't alone in feeling disillusioned in Camo as a tier during the whole Calm Mind debacle, and with that issue resolved I'd be a lot more open to giving it a shot with a similar project in the future.
