I prefer St. Louis Chess Club or CCSCATL (fangirling to Ben Finegold) but yeah.
In other news, I got way too bored with playing Italian and London System, so I switched to Vienna, and apparently have won about 92% of my games with it on lichess, so I'm planning on making it my main tournament opening now.
Also, out of curiosity, what do you all play against the Caro Kann from white? I've been playing more Caro Kann recently, and was wondering if there were some interesting lines I should study...
Ah! I finally get to unveil a ton of opening lnes that I probably shouldn't know but know!
I think the line e4 c6 d4 d5 e5 Bf5 (...c5 is also possible but it's rareish) g4 Bg6 h4 h6 h5 Bh7 e6! is pretty good. The pawn sacrifice just.. it completely paralyzes black.
If black goes for h5 over h6, then e6! is very strong, sacrificing a pawn for a completely busted position on black's end if the pawn is accepted - Trust me, I've been on the black side.
Black can insert Be4 if wished, which can be replied to with f3.
It's worth noting that black doesn't have to take the pawn in either line, and in fact should not. Qd6 is a better move, but after exf7+ Kxf7 it's.. an interesting position that I don't think most black players would enjoy. Note that most players will take the pawn however.
Another similar line is 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5 4. h4 h6 5. g4 Be4 6. f3 Bh7 7. e6
Again, totally busted if fxe6, but Qd6 again saves the day and leads to an interesting position.
h5 is more common than h6 according to lichess's opening explorer, and apparently the best white has is Bd3 with a trade.
e6 is a common motif in these sorts of lines, and you should look for it at every corner.
Blargh that was a lot of writing..
If you want a quieter approach, rather than these lines, which are all very swashbuckling and attacking, the Short variation of the Advance Caro-Kann (e4 c6 d4 d5 e5 Bf5 Nf3) is probably your best bet.
I recommend Hanging Pawns as a good youtube channel with great videos on opening theory, particularly the caro-kann.
tl;dr: pulsar512b is a huge theory nerd that knows too many lines, just go for the immediate g4 and h4 lines and try to mate black. Or if you don't want chaos, short variation.
