NU Torterra

[OVERVIEW]

Torterra acts as a switch-in to threatening Pokemon in the NU metagame, including Comfey, Rhydon, Palossand, and, most notably, Heliolisk. With access to reliable recovery, Torterra has an edge over some of the other Stealth Rock users such as Rhydon and Steelix that are prone to chip damage. A strong offset of using Torterra, however, is that it really struggles to switch into Water-types like Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise, unlike most Grass-types. Not only does it take neutral damage from their STAB moves, but it's also extremely vulnerable to Scald burns, making it face stiff competition from the likes of Decidueye and Dhelmise for a teamslot. In spite of having Synthesis to help it as a Stealth Rock user, Torterra greatly struggles to keep Stealth Rock up, as it can't touch Xatu, and notable Defoggers and spinners such as Golbat, Decidueye, and Dhelmise take it on with ease.

Moves
========

Wood Hammer is Torterra's most important tool to damage Water-types such as Vaporeon, Blastoise, and Slowking. It also does hefty damage to neutral targets such as Pangoro and Mega Glalie. Earthquake is instrumental so Fire-types like Incineroar and Delphox don't switch into Torterra for free and is also a useful STAB move to have. Torterra is a decent setter of Stealth Rock thanks to its reliable recovery, in spite of being vulnerable to Xatu. Synthesis keeps Torterra healthy to continually check the Pokemon it wants to and gives it more opportunities to use Stealth Rock. Swords Dance can be used instead of Stealth Rock, letting Torterra be more of a nuisance to opposing teams and threaten some of their walls.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread along with a Careful nature gives Torterra enough bulk to always stomach two Hyper Voices from Choice Specs Heliolisk and two Close Combats from Passimian after Leftovers recovery and Stealth Rock damage. Leftovers also helps keep Torterra healthy outside of using Synthesis. Shell Armor is the ability of choice to avoid critical hits.

Usage Tips
========

Switch Torterra into Pokemon it checks like Heliolisk and Passimian and try to keep it healthy so it can continually check them. Getting Stealth Rock up is very nice, but avoid doing it if it weakens Torterra to the point that it can't check what it's supposed to. This doesn't apply if Torterra happens to have a rougher matchup against your opponent's team and doesn't actually check much, in which case you can play more recklessly with it and set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible, crippling Fire- and Ice-types that would want to switch in, such as Mega Glalie and Incineroar. Ideally try to chip down these Pokemon as they attempt to come in. With correct predictions, Torterra can safely set up Stealth Rock by switching in as a Pokemon it forces out, such as Rhydon, Heliolisk, or Comfey, also comes in. However, be careful of Xatu, as it can bounce back Stealth Rock.

Team Options
========

Torterra usually goes on balance and bulky offense teams as a reasonable Stealth Rock setter. Sneasel is a great teammate, as it takes advantage of two of Torterra's main roadblocks in Xatu and Golbat, trapping the first and pressuring the second, while Torterra's Stealth Rock lets it break more easily. Checks to Ice-types such as Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow are very important with Torterra, as they can switch in rather freely, thus the likes of Incineroar and Delphox make for great allies; Incineroar also checks Sneasel and opposing Incineroar. Checks to opposing Grass-types like Sceptile and Alolan Exeggutor are welcome as well. Golbat helps in this regard and provides a secondary Passimian check, while Garbodor is also a nice choice that provides an entry hazard stacking core and a lure to Xatu. Since Torterra is so vulnerable to Water-types for a Grass-type, teammates like Heliolisk and Rotom can help pressure them. Heal Bell support is useful to make Torterra more capable of checking Water-types so it can be more reckless in regards to Scald burns. Vaporeon provides Heal Bell support and a check to Fire-types and Sneasel, and Mega Audino is also an option. Wish support from both is also very welcome. Vaporeon and Blastoise appreciate Torterra taking care of Heliolisk.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A more offensive Swords Dance set can be used with Rockium Z and Stone Edge, but Torterra isn't hard to revenge kill and pivot around, especially without bulk investment. A Grassium Z Rock Polish set with Wood Hammer, Earthquake, and Stone Edge can also be used, but Torterra is not that good a sweeper due to its low Speed and Attack when unboosted.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: Xatu completely ignores Torterra as a Stealth Rock user, as Torterra can't touch it at all and gets punished by Toxic.

**Flying-types**: Golbat can Defog for free on Torterra, nullifying most of its niche. Other Flying-types like Braviary, Sigilyph, and Vivillon use Torterra as a free opportunity to switch in and take advantage of it.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types can switch into Torterra without much cost. Sceptile and Alolan Exeggutor can force Torterra out with Hidden Power Ice and Flamethrower, respectively, whereas Rapid Spin Dhelmise and Defog Decidueye can remove Torterra's Stealth Rock, and Nasty Plot Decidueye can use Torterra as setup bait.

**Ice-types**: Mega Abomasnow can switch into and OHKO Torterra with ease. Mega Glalie, Sneasel, and Piloswine can easily OHKO Torterra as well but take plenty of damage from Torterra's moves in return.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Torterra acts as a switch in to threatening Pokémon in the NU metagame such as Heliolisk, Passimian, and Whimsicott. whimsicott is really irrelevant currently, and I wouldn't call torterra a passimian switch-in personally. im fine if you keep the monkey mention, but change whimsi to something else imo
  • It's also a good Stealth Rock setter thanks to its access to reliable recovery, making it a bit more consistent, however it is complete bait to Xatu, hence not too reliable of a Stealth Rock user. don't oversell torterra here
  • Swords Dance is also a great asset, as it can threaten many walls in the NU metagame, however, since Torterra can't afford to run attack investment in order to check threats like Heliolisk and Passimian, it's inital hit isn't strong enough, making it easy to pivot around and force out. I dont think sd is worth a bullet up here personally
  • A strong offset of using Torterra, however, is how, unlike most Grass-types, it actually really struggles to switch into Water-types like Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise. Not only does it take neutral damage from their STAB move, but it's also extremely vulnreable to Scald burns, making it face stiff competition with the likes of Vileplume and Sceptile for a teamslot.
  • Much of the NU metagame also takes advantage of Torterra. Xatu, Vileplume, Rotom, Sceptile, and Mega Glalie are notable examples. this last point is largely irrelevant given you can talk about most of these pokemon in other sections
reorganize this a bit because rn you go back and forth between positives and negatives to much:
- switch-in to these pokemon
- workable stealth rock setter because blah
- struggles to check water-types
- struggles to set hazards versus almost every remover

  • Torterra is a great setter of Stealth Rock thanks to is reliable recovery, in spite of a vulnerability to Xatu. i'd focus more on how synthesis makes it a reliable defensive pokemon. you can also mention though how it gives torterra more opportunities to set stealth rock
  • Swords Dance, on the other hand, allows Torterra to be more of a nuisance to opposing teams, and threaten some of their walls. remove its slash but keep the mention down here, im not entirely sold on sd but others may be
  • Last but not least, Synthesis keeps Torterra healthy and capable of continuously checking the Pokémon it wants to. you pretty much already mention synthesis in the stealth rock bullet. no need to do that again here
Set Details

  • The EV spread of choice along with a Careful Nature has enough bulk to always stomach two Hyper Voices from Choice Specs Heliolisk and two Close Combats from Passimian, both after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers.
  • Speaking of Leftovers, this item is very important to ensure these Pokémon can't 2HKO Torterra
  • Overgrow is the ability of choice as it can make Wood Hammer hit exceptionally hard if Torterra is low on HP. shell armor is better tbh.. you dont wanna get cheese crit by lisk and overgrow wont come into play too often given you wanna stay healthy w/ synthesis
Usage Tips
========

  • Using Torterra is quite straight forward, switch it into Pokémon it checks Heliolisk and Passimian and try to keep it healthy so it can continuously check such Pokémon. talk about how you get opportunities to set stealth rock by doing so
  • Getting Stealth Rock up is very nice, but avoid doing it if it costs your Torterra too much HP to the point that it can't check what it's supposed to. This doesn't apply if Torterra happens to have a rougher matchup with your opponent's team and doesn't actually check much, in which case you can play more recklessly with it, and get rocks as soon as possible, crippling Fire- and Ice-types that would want to switch in, such as Mega Glalie and Incineroar.
  • Ideally though, you can try to Wood Hammer or Earthquake, respectively, these Pokémon as they attempt to come in
  • Also, avoid getting up Stealth Rock on your side of the field against Xatu teams, ideally you wanna double as Xatu comes in.
this section has good info imo but you'll wanna reword some parts before you get to gp. phrasing is a bit all over the place.
Team Options

  • what kinds of teams does torterra go on and why
  • Sneasel is a great teammate as it takes advantage of two of Torterra's main roadblocks in Xatu and Vileplume, trapping the first and pressuring the second.
  • Checks to Ice-types such as Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow are very important with Torterra as they are invited rather freely, thus the likes of Incineroar and Delphox make for great allies. Incineroar also checks Sneasel and opposing Incineroar.

  • Since Torterra is so vulnerable to Water-types and isn't as reliable of a check to them, teammates like Heliolisk and Rotom can help pressure those.
  • Heal Bell support is useful to make Torterra more self suficient when it comes to checking Water-types so it can be more reckless in regards to burns. Vaporeon provides this and a check to Fire-types and Sneasel, but Mega Audino is also an option. Wish support from both is also very welcome.

  • A more offensive Swords Dance set can be used, but Torterra isn't hard to revenge kill and pivot around, especially without bulk investment. I'd note that this set can run Rockium Z with Stone Edge to help versus common checks like Xatu and Golbat
  • Rock Polish attempts to mitigame this issue, but a lack of coverage between Wood Hammer and Earthquake makes it hard to effectively break and sweep with.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: Xatu completely ignores Torterra as a Stealth Rock user as Torterra can't touch Xatu at all and gets punished by Toxic.

**Ice-types**: Mega Abomasnow comes in for free and Mega Glalie and Sneasel can also stomach a hit or two. All three easily OHKO Torterra with their Ice-type STAB.

**Flying-types**: Aside from the aforementioned Xatu, other flying types like Braviary, Sigilyph, and Golbat also use Torterra as a free switch in and take advantage of it. expand on this some. mention golbat first and talk about how it defogs for free versus torterra. then mention how sigilyph can easily switch into torterra and start wallbreaking and how braviary can bulk up easily versus it. may as well throw a vivillon mention in here too while you're at it.

**Grass-types**: Sceptile, Alolan Exeguttor, and most importantly Vileplume also switch in for free. The first two can force Torterra out with Hidden Power Ice and Draco Meteor, respectively, whereas the former can set up a Growth or fish for Sludge Bomb poisons. note how specially defensive vileplume can be overwhelmed by swords dance torterra

**Other Offensive Pokémon With Type Effectiveness**: Incineroar and Accelgor can also switch in with decent ease and force Torterra out. i think this point is too generic to really warrant a bullet

I want the order to be the following btw:
Xatu
Flying-types
Grass-types
Ice-types

  • Shell Armor is the ability of choice to avoid critical hits from Heliolisk and the likes, and Overgrow wouldn't be too useful as Torterra would want to heal up and not attack when low at health, most of the time. The Overgrow commentary isn’t necessary imo, remove.

  • However, avoid getting up Stealth Rock on your side of the field against Xatu teams, ideally you wanna double as Xatu comes in. Reword this too.
Team Options
========

  • Torterra usually goes on balance and maybe bulky offense kind of teams as a reasonable Stealth Rocker, but shouldn't be considered for more offensive teams as more offensive Stealth Rock users are preferred in those. It is more so because Torterra is such a momentum sink that it doesn’t appear on offense, but I wouldn’t really bother mentioning this anyway.

Flamethrower forces Torterra out more successfully than Draco Meteor given it can’t Synthesis stall that out.

**Ice-types**: Mega Abomasnow comes in for free and Mega Glalie and Sneasel can also stomach a hit or two. All three easily OHKO Torterra with their Ice-type STAB.

This is awkwardly written adn implies you're replacing Synthesis with SD "Swords Dance can be used instead of Stealth Rock to allow Torterra to threaten to break through walls" or something like that.

Getting Stealth Rock up is very nice, but avoid doing it if it costs your Torterra too much HP to the point that it can't check what it's supposed to. Ideally though, you can try to chip down these Pokémon as they attempt to come in. With predictions Torterra can switch in as a Pokémon it forces out also comes in, so that it can set up Stealth Rock without risk, sich as switching in as the likes of Rhydon, Heliolisk, or Comfey come in. However, be careful of Xatu, as it can bounce back Stealth Rock. In what matchups should you just spam attacks?

Team Options
========

Torterra usually goes on balance and maybe bulky offense kind of teams as a reasonable Stealth Rocker. Sneasel is a great teammate as it takes advantage of two of Torterra's main roadblocks in Xatu and Golbat, trapping the first and pressuring the second, while Torterra's Stealth Rock lets is break better. Aerodactyl should be mentioned for the same reason, except it has even better defensive synergy, taking on flying and fire types for tort. Checks to Ice-types such as Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow are very important with Torterra as they are invited rather freely, thus the likes of Incineroar and Delphox make for great allies. Incineroar also checks Sneasel and opposing Incineroar for Torterra. And Torterra stomachs Water-type moves for both. Checks to opposing Grass-types like Sceptile and Alolan Exegutor, that also trouble Torterra, are welcome as well, Golbat helps on this regard while providing a secondary Passimian check and Garbodor is also a nice choice while providing a hazard stacking core and a lure to Xatu. Since Torterra is so vulnerable to Water-types and isn't as reliable of a check to them, teammates like Heliolisk and Rotom can help pressure those. Heal Bell support is useful to make Torterra more self suficient when it comes to checking Water-types so it can be more reckless in regards to burns. Vaporeon provides this and a check to Fire-types and Sneasel, but Mega Audino is also an option. Wish support from both is also very welcome. Vaporeon and Blastoise appreciate Torterra taking care of Heliolisk.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A more offensive Swords Dance set can be used with Rockium Z and Stone Edge, but Torterra isn't hard to revenge kill and pivot around, especially without bulk investment. Rock Polish attempts to mitigame this issue, but a lack of coverage between Wood Hammer and Earthquake makes it hard to effectively break and sweep with. Expand on a solo RP set: Wood Hammer / EQ /SE / RP with ground-z is viable enough.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: Xatu completely ignores Torterra as a Stealth Rock user as Torterra can't touch Xatu at all and gets punished by Toxic.

**Flying-types**: Aside from the aforementioned Xatu Golbat can also Defog for free on Torterra, nullifying most of its niche, other flying types like Braviary, Sigilyph, and Vivillon also use Torterra as a free switch in and take advantage of it.

**Grass-types**: Sceptile and Alolan Exeguttor also switch in for free. The first two can force Torterra out with Hidden Power Ice and Flamethrower, respectively, whereas Rapid Spin Dhelmise and Defog Decidueye can also easily come in and remove Torterra's hazards.

**Ice-types**: Mega Glalie and Sneasel can also stomach a hit or two and easily OHKO Torterra with their Ice-type STAB. Tort has a roll to OHKO both after rocks.

Torterra acts as a switch in to threatening Pokémon in the NU metagame. Most notably Heliolisk, but it also helps with Comfey, Rhydon (Mention Specs Whimsicott), and Palosand. With access to reliable recovery Torterra has an upside on some of the other Stealth Rock users that are prone to chip damage. A strong offset of using Torterra, however, is how, unlike most Grass-types, it actually really struggles to switch into Water-types like Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise. Not only does it take neutral damage from their STAB move, but it's also extremely vulnreable to Scald burns, making it face stiff competition with the likes of Decidueye and Dhelmise for a teamslot. In spite of Synthesis to help it as a Stealth Rock user, Torterra greatly struggles to keep Stealth Rock up, as it can't touch Xatu, and notable Defoggers and Rapid Spinners, such as Golbat, Decidueye, and Dhelmise take it on with ease.

Wood Hammer is Torterra's most important tool to damage Water-types such as Vaporeon, Blastoise, and Slowking. It also does hefty damage to neutral targets such as Pangoro and Mega Glalie. Earthquake is instrumental so Fire-types like Incineroar and Delphox don't switch into Torterra for free and just hits several useful targets for neutral damage. Torterra is an alright setter of Stealth Rock thanks to is reliable recovery, in spite of a vulnerability to Xatu. Synthesis also keeps Torterra healthy and capable of continuously checking the Pokémon it wants to, and gives it more opportunities to use said hazards. Swords Dance, on the other hand, allows Torterra to be more of a nuisance to opposing teams, and threaten some of their walls, and can be used in Stealth Rock's stead.

Perhaps you can mention Nasty Plot Decidueye can set up on Torterra)

**Ice-types**: Mega Glalie and Sneasel can also stomach a hit or two and easily OHKO Torterra with their Ice-type STAB. (Sneasel gets OHKO'd by Wood Hammer and KO'd by Earthquake with Rocks up. I'd just reword this to say they can OHKO it with their STAB, but cannot safely switch in. Add another point about Abomasnow-Mega being a free switch-in to this set, and Piloswine being able to KO with Icicle Crash while chewing one Wood Hammer from full if necessary)

Rock Polish with Wood Hammer, Earthquake, Stone Edge, and Grassium Z can also be used used, but it's really not that good a sweeper thanks to low Speed and low Attack unboosted.
Checks and Counters

**Xatu**: Xatu completely ignores Torterra as a Stealth Rock user as Torterra can't touch Xatu at all and gets punished by Toxic.
**Flying-types**: Aside from the aforementioned Xatu Xatu, Golbat can also Defog for free on Torterra, nullifying most of its niche, niche, and other flying types like Braviary, Sigilyph, and Vivillon also use Torterra as a free switch in switch-in and take advantage of it.
**Grass-types**: Sceptile and Alolan Exeguttor can switch into Torterra without must cost. The first two can force Torterra out with Hidden Power Ice and Flamethrower, Flamethrower respectively, whereas Rapid Spin Dhelmise and Defog Decidueye can also easily come in and remove Torterra's hazards and Nasty Plot Decidueye can use Torterra as setup bait.
**Ice-types**: Mega Abomasnow switchs switches in without much drawbacks and can OHKO Torterra with ease. Mega Glalie, Sneasel, and Piloswine can easily OHKO Torterra as well but take plenty of damage from Torterra's moves so they shouldn't switch in.

[OVERVIEW]

Torterra acts as a switch-in to threatening Pokemon in the NU metagame, including Comfey, Rhydon, Palossand, and, most notably, Heliolisk. With access to reliable recovery, Torterra has an edge over some of the other Stealth Rock users that are prone to chip damage. (such as?) A strong offset of using Torterra, however, is that it really struggles to switch into Water-types like Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise, unlike most Grass-types. Not only does it take neutral damage from their STAB moves, but it's also extremely vulnerable to Scald burns, making it face stiff competition with from the likes of Decidueye and Dhelmise for a teamslot. In spite of having Synthesis to help it as a Stealth Rock user, Torterra greatly struggles to keep Stealth Rock up, as it can't touch Xatu, and notable Defoggers and Rapid spinners such as Golbat, Decidueye, and Dhelmise take it on with ease.

Moves
========

Wood Hammer is Torterra's most important tool to damage Water-types such as Vaporeon, Blastoise, and Slowking. It also does hefty damage to neutral targets such as Pangoro and Mega Glalie. Earthquake is instrumental so Fire-types like Incineroar and Delphox don't switch into Torterra for free and also hits several useful targets such as or Fire- or and Ice-types that would want to come in otherwise. (doesn't wood hammer also hit ice types? you mentioend mega glalie as a wood hammer target) Torterra is a decent setter of Stealth Rock thanks to its reliable recovery, in spite of being vulnerable to Xatu. Synthesis keeps Torterra healthy to continually check the Pokemon it wants to and gives it more opportunities to use Stealth Rock. Swords Dance can be used instead of Stealth Rock, letting Torterra be more of a nuisance to opposing teams and threaten some of their walls.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Switch Torterra into Pokemon it checks like Heliolisk and Passimian and try to keep it healthy so it can continually check them. Getting Stealth Rock up is very nice, but avoid doing it if it weakens Torterra to the point that it can't check what it's supposed to. This doesn't apply if Torterra happens to have a rougher matchup with against your opponent's team and doesn't actually check much, in which case you can play more recklessly with it and set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible, crippling Fire- and Ice-types that would want to switch in, such as Mega Glalie and Incineroar.

========

Torterra usually goes on balance and bulky offense teams as a reasonable Stealth Rock setter. Sneasel is a great teammate, as it takes advantage of two of Torterra's main roadblocks in Xatu and Golbat, trapping the first and pressuring the second, while Torterra's Stealth Rock lets it break better more easily. Checks to Ice-types such as Mega Glalie and Mega Abomasnow are very important with Torterra, as they are invited can switch in rather freely, thus the likes of Incineroar and Delphox make for great allies; Incineroar also checks Sneasel and opposing Incineroar. In return, Torterra stomachs Water-type moves for both. (you said in overview it can't switch into scald and just below that it's vulnerable) Checks to opposing Grass-types like Sceptile and Alolan Exeggutor (RC) are welcome as well. Heal Bell support is useful to make Torterra better more capable of checking Water-types so it can be more reckless in regards to Scald burns. Vaporeon provides Heal Bell support and a check to Fire-types and Sneasel, and Mega Audino is also an option. Wish support from both is also very welcome. Vaporeon and Blastoise appreciate Torterra taking care of Heliolisk.

Other Options
=============
