(Un)Official Smogon University PO Stats -- August 2011

IIRC the cutoff is based off of combined stats over THREE months.

and @Scarfwynaut, if you'd like to do that for me, that would be AWESOME. It appears the way it is because it's a tsv (tab-separated values). Easy for importing into excel or whatnot.
I will start it tommorow.

I stopped after Clefable...

Dam Gastrodon skyrocketed, but I bet no one realized how much Roserade grew. I expected Sharpedo to skyrocket though after that one guy got to #1 with one.

UU chandelure, swampert, metagross, hippowdon, lucario, mienshao, darmanitan, cloyster, and machamp? oh my god that would be awesome.
Yup, if we were to update the tiers based on these stats, they, along with Venusaur, Tornadus, Porygon2, and Whimsicott would all be gone from the initial gen V OU, with Gastrodon, Celebi, Espeon, and Mamoswine being the only ones to rise into it.

12 falling (and Garchomp banned) and only 4 rising would mean an OU 17% smaller than it was initially. However, I think that there might be a more plausible cuprit for the tier shrinkage than Over-Centralizing Weather Wars, as Mario with Lasers has pointed out. Going by these stats, UU also only would include 44 Pokemon and RU (if there was a NU) would only include 42. This makes me think that, if we are going to use Antar's formula, we might need to change the cutoff line a little bit.

2.8 seems pretty fair, it stops Donphan from being OU, and keeps tornadus in, although anything in that area should be fine. I don't know about other tiers though.

Wait im confused. Is this unofficial stats for all months combined or just the month of august, because if its just august i believe they'll be a rise in OU mons except with tornadus dropping into uu, and gastrodon to be on its rise to fame. Pokemon like swampert and darmanitan have a higher chance of maintaining OU status, as prior to this they were ranked in the 30's(correct me if im wrong).

These stats are for just August

Hopefully we'll be able to get the correct stats (the unskewed) for August, and then we can combine them with May and June.

Once we do that we'll be able to implement the tier placement changes.

Antar, please tell me you threw out all the data from those ranked under 1001. We don't need data from those who lose more than they win.

Yeah! The OD of the OG is top dragon! I'm surprised Lucario is almost UU. I haven't battled on the simulator at all, but I thought Lucario was pretty unpredictable with his almost equal offensive stats and access to Nasty Plot, Agility, and Swords Dance.

Thanks for the work :D

God this weather centralized metagame is disgusting.

I really hope darmanitan drops to UU. I've been dying to try out a zen mode set in a less powerful metagame where he could have a chance.

Sorry about metagross and chandelure :( They can't drop to UU though, way to powerful. Ferrothorn dropping doesnt surprise me, after everyone started running fire attacks. Magnezone dropped a bit, probably due to many steel pokemon having a fire/fighting/ground attack to kill him with so his trapping wasn't as good.

He has the raw data for all of August and this month, so after some hard coding work he made useage stats from it.

Oh BTW, we won't be able to really tell if the metagame has actually skrunk, until the offical stats come out. I think it has shrunk a bit, but a good 3 or 4 places are probably due to Antar's coding dealing with the fact that the pokemon needs to actually come out to be counted.

Dam Gastrodon skyrocketed, but I bet no one realized how much Roserade grew. I expected Sharpedo to skyrocket though after that one guy got to #1 with one.
Some interesting changes. Big ones to note:
Deoxys-S rising 15 places.
Gastrodon jumping 36 places, the biggest jump tied with Sharpedo.
Roserade, Alakazam, Rotom-C all making significant jumps (20+).
Dugtrio jumped a whopping 20 places.
Abomasnow, Donphan, and Mew, some of the biggest players in UU making a move up towards OU.
Actually Grass types in general moved up, many seeing double digit jumps.
Machamp and Cloyster both fell quite a bit.
And Gorebyss(Lol, typo in the data) dropped a lot.

Since none of this is set in stone we cant really make too many assumptions from this, but i do feel the metagame is more centralised. I wasnt horribly suprised at the small size of OU. I was suprised at the drop in the usage of ferrothorn, especially since he usually comes out earlier in the game because his spikes are more effective then. So we know that ferros usage drop might be more reliable?
hahaha

Swampert wasn't very relevant or useful anyway. No surprise for Lucario or Machamp either. Go team Gastrodon.

On the other hand, I am pleasantly surprised at the rise of usage for Celebi and Donphan, but most especially Donphan. (I mean Donphan? I know it's a king in UU, and it makes a fantastic Rapid Spin user on sunlight teams...)

Thanks for taking the time to work with the stats, Antar. Nothing short of heroic, in a way. We have to wait for solidity in the data though, so everything I've said might be put down.

YES SHARPEDO IS CLIMBING UP. 35 places. i put him in EVERY TEAM I MADE. YESSSSSSS.

rain team? yes
trick room team? yes
dual weather team? yes.

Wow, huge spikes in usage by Rotom-W, Haxorus, Celebi, Deoxys-S, and Gastrodon, all which were predictable.

Huge collapses by Ferrothorn (thats right ppl take that! I was right! Ferrothorn was becoming increasingly underwhelming! yeah, I looked like a complete tard when I said that on the 5th round thread, butwho's laughing now!) Latios, and Blissey. All of which were predictable as well (except the Ferrothorn one, proudly one of the only people who questioned Ferro's #1 ranking :))

@ Antar, thanks for putting so much time and effort into putting this together. Even though you were clearly limited in terms of resources, you still managed to make this work, big thumbs up from me

Also a few personal comments

7 Dragonite 71521 15.09149%
31 Salamence 26015 5.48937%

Wow, I'm disappointed in all of you. Yes Dragonite is better than Salamence, but the gap is NOT that big.

48 Swampert 14349 3.02775%
57 Quagsire 11882 2.5072%

Are you people retarded? As in 2/3 extra chromosomes? The only thing Swampert does that Quagsire cannot do better is bulky CBer. Quaggy counters/ checks everything Swampert does ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I bet this is just a result of scrubs thinking: Swampert is a starter and former top 10 OU, therefore it must outclass Quagsire. Well it doesn't work that way buddy, or else, Snorlax would still be king.

59 Slowbro 11774 2.48441%
62 Jolteon 10885 2.29682%
65 Porygon2 10030 2.11641%

These 3 don't get enough love

38 Bronzong 21951 4.63183%
61 Kingdra 11389 2.40317%

How are two of the best anti-metagame pokemon in the game used so little? Bronzong is arguably the best sand counter in existence. Defeating Excadrill, Landorus, and Gliscor with ease. Kingdra is a catch all check for all rain teams without Ferrothorn/ Empoleon, the latter which is rarely ever seen. At least Bronzong made OU cutoff.

44 Virizion 16658 3.51497%

How the **** is this piece of garbage still in OU????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!! It can't check rain, because many of rain's best abusers carry Hurricane/ Ice moves. It can't check Sand, I mean honestly? you're going to use ****ing 90 Defense to check excadrill? FAIL! Virizion is incompetent both defensively and offensively. I mean lets face it, Grass+Fighting does not net you a very good defensive typing. At all. While 129 SpD is fantastic, many of the threats Virizion supposedly "walls" are either physical, or carry a move that can rock it for massive damage: see Hurricane. Virizion can't even invest much in those defenses either, as it would take away from its only other good asset besides SpD, its Speed! Its offensive sets are complete garbage. Swords Dance... off 90 base Attack. Are you friggin serious? Thats not going to dent anything! Leaf Blade is friggin gay, as you aren't gonna be hurting anything except specially defensive bulky waters with it. Stone Edge can probably be officially deemed the worst non Focus Blast attack in the game, with Virizion's pathetic attack stat, it wont even be scoring OHKOs on some crit SE hits. Coverage my ass. The only physical STAB with any potential at all is Close Combat. But even that fucks up Virizion's otherwise great SpD. 90 freaking attack! and people are trying to run Swords Dance! FAIL! DERP! ABORT! SD Virizion has got to be Electivire version 2. Calm Mind Virizion is just as gay. I mean, once again it comes off 90 base SpA. Thats not hurting anyone. Yeah, you'll be a monster in terms of SpD, but all you have to do is toss a physical attack at it and Virizion is still gonna die. You can't even afford to invest in physical defense either. Because it either ruins Virizion's otherwise great speed stat, or makes Virizion's attacks even more pathetic. Or for those tards that run 252 Hp/ 252 Def Bold, BOTH! Oh and don't even get me started on attacks. Giga Drain is nice, except that your not doing much damage with 90 SpA, Focus Blast is the worst move in the game. You actually have a higher chance of missing than hitting twice in a row! Hidden Power Ice, same as Stone Edge, when your SpA is 90, even super effective coverage is completely gay. HP Ice bounces off the likes of Latias like its nothing. In fact barring a crit, Latias will win a CM war against Virizion even without Roar every time. Moral of the story? Stop using Electivire, Virizion

If this thing is fucking official...

oh fuck do I see METAGROSS IN UU

I'd prolly want Hippowdon to drop(just so I can use it :3)

Now for comments:

1.
1 Tyranitar 95686 20.1905%
5 Ferrothorn 80902 17.07096%
So I herd Ferrothorn was king? People prolly value the ability to Lati-rape and sand than this.

2.
12 Excadrill 49093 10.35901%
I expected higher, especially with Tyranitar being top...

3.
40 Breloom 21085 4.4491%
41 Scrafty 20959 4.42251%
These two seem rather low... maybe they might drop? IDK.

4.
45 Metagross 15163 3.19951%
46 Venusaur 15139 3.19445%
47 Mienshao 14377 3.03366%
48 Swampert 14349 3.02775%
49 Chandelure 13982 2.95031%
50 Hippowdon 13597 2.86907%
wtf is this shit

5.
65 Porygon2 10030 2.11641%
Seems like it finally got DPPt syndrome. Oh well. UU anyone? :3

6.
236 Aron 73 0.14146%
Guilty. I was the one who spammed FEARon in UU. :P

7.
216 Staraptor 99 0.19184%
217 Vulpix 98 0.1899%
what the fuck are these two still dicking around here for

8.
31 Charizard 585 3.08122%
seems like kicking out <1001 battlers do work, but Ubers, I is still disappoint. =.= it scored higher than goodstuff like Manaphy, Thundurus, Cloyster and Arceus-Steel. >.>

It's not official because based on logs.

If a guy swept with only 2 pokemons, only his two pokemons will appear as used, and not the four others.

but it shows interesting stuffs, like ferrothron droping in usage.

@new world order

virizion is NOT TRASH. you will not talk to my favorite pokemon that way.

virizion absolutely walls all special ice attacks with calm mind (takes shit from non stab ice beams) and it can lice a dragonite's hurricane (tornadus too) at +2 which is frankly easy to get to against rain while a +2 hp ice OHKOes both of them. you have NOT SEEN VIRIZION HUH?

wait so... really? really?

45 Metagross 15163 3.19951%
46 Venusaur 15139 3.19445%

48 Swampert 14349 3.02775%
49 Chandelure 13982 2.95031%
50 Hippowdon 13597 2.86907%
51 Tornadus 13422 2.83215%

yes

venusaur you have been missed

also sand just got a huge fucking boost, better than snow by a long shot though..!

38 Bronzong 21951 4.63183%

aldaron's proposal

also, ferrothorn is common enough to warrant NOT using kingdra.
