ORAS OU Volcanion Trick Room (Currently 1600+ ELO)

Good gosh. Guys, gals, all my pals, I've come out of my hole again, and I have a Trick Room team for you to rate. Based on an offensive core of two mons, Breloom and Volcanion, this team has been giving me considerable success on the ladder. Unlike other Trick Room teams I have tried out, it has proven to be surprisingly matchup-resistant, only struggling against a select few mons instead of entire teams or playstyles. Furthemore, it affords me more freedom and bulk than other Trick Room teams, all without sacrificing offensive presence. Honestly, I believe it's the best Trick Room team I've played with in OU. So without further ado, let's get into the nitty gritty.

We'll start with the typical lead:

Tornadus

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Knock Off
This is your typical Assault Vest Tornadus set, used here just because it works so gosh darn well. It has a positive matchup against most leads my opponent decides to go with, and even if it doesn't, it can just Knock Off for annoyance and then U-Turn out. The only things that truly threaten it are Mega Lopunny, Weavile, Tyranitar, and Landorus. Scarf Tyranitar is no threat, however, since Tornadus can merely use Superpower on it to OHKO, since it outspeeds. Superpower is also good for getting decent damage off things like Heatran, which often try to switch in. Aside from lead shenanigans, Tornadus also does well as a bulky special pivot outside of Trick Room, snagging me some needed momentum and threatening things like Amoongus, which gives trouble to this team. I especially have praise for Hurricane, a curious move where Tornadus aims to the left of his opponent and fires an attack. Still, it's useful when it hits, and Tornadus is quite useful altogether.

Now that we've secured some cruicial momentum, what should we go into? More often than not, our Stealth Rock setter:

Bronzong

Bronzong @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball

Bronzong? In OU? It's more likely than you might think! This critter is extremely useful, adding a crucial Ground immunity to my team and needed bulk to sponge hits. Bronzong's job is simple: switch in, set up Trick Room, set up rocks, then either hit hard with Gyro Ball or hit even harder with Explosion. With Life Orb and minimum speed, Gyro Ball is actually one of the hardest hitting moves in the game, straight up killing anything remotely fast, sometimes even if they resist *cough*Thundurus*cough*. Beyond the Ball, Explosion not only provides a nuke to destroy what is on the other side (provided they are not a Steel type), but also as a means of gaining momentum, since one can simply switch in a sweeper after the debris has settled and sweep from there. This Pokemon honestly isn't used for much other than setting up and exploding, but that, along with having crucial immunities and resistances, makes it an essential member of my team.

But what sweeper do we switch into? A possible one is Breloom:

Breloom

Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Mach Punch
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Rock Tomb
I'll get things out of the way: this Pokemon is frail as balls. Even with full HP investment, it falls to literally anything. That doesn't stop it from being an essential member of my team, however. Mach Punch under Trick Room critically outspeeds Weavile's Ice Shard, a fact which most of my opponents seem to forget. Moreover, it OHKOs many variants of Heatran after rocks, dents Steels that don't resist it, and provides useful priority outside of Trick Room. Spore needs no explanation, but I must say it has added utility in a Trick Room team, giving me critical time to switch in a Trick Room user and get going again. Bullet Seed is obvious STAB which hits Landorus hard even after Intimidate and blows up Water types, and finally, Rock Tomb is for Talonflame who think they can take a Mach Punch and end up taking more than that. All these moves make Breloom into a critical team member and useful sweeper/denter/sleeper which I appreciate greatly.

And now for the other half of the core: The man you've been waiting for, Volcanion!

Volcanion

Volcanion @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 30 HP / 30 Def / 1 Spe
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]

It's like this Pokemon was made for Trick Room, it works so well under it. With HP investment, this Pokemon becomes stupidly bulky, doing freaky things like surviving a Landorus' Earthquake after Stealth Rocks. But bulk is not the only thing this monster has going for it. Until Trick Room, this Pokemon can eschew a limiting Choice Specs set and become a sweeper. It came come in, rocks or not, and start annihilating the other team as it slowly restores health, getting energy to safely switch in again. Steam Eruption and Fire Blast are the tools of the trade, hitting like trucks even on things that resist (Steam Eruption actually 3HKOes Slowbro after rocks, especially if it gets the burn). Hidden Power Ice is for things like Latios, Garchomp, or other Dragons who try to get the resist in on a Steam Eruption or Fire Blast, and finally, Sludge Wave is for Azumarill and Clefable, who arrogantly think they can deal with this thing. Yeah, Volcanion is a beast.

But perhaps even more of a beast is our next Pokemon:

Mega Gardevoir

Gardevoir-Mega @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Hyper Voice

I still have a debt to Trick Room trillionaire Jojobobo for coming up with this set. I mean, Mega Gardevoir under Trick Room? Preposterous! It's got base 100 speed! But with a negative nature and no IVs, you'll find that this thing outspeeds under Trick Room things like Bisharp, Landorus, and plenty others. This Pokemon already has utility in being able to set up its own Trick Room, but it goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to sweeping. Hyper Voice is stupidly powerful, straight up killing everything that doesn't resist it and isn't Chansey. It's the most powerful attack on my team, really, and it's useful for sweeping more than any other move. Psyshock is for pesky poison types like Gengar and stuff like Talonflame who try to switch in. Finally, Focus Blast hits things like Heatran hard, assuming I have prayed to God enough and get a hit. Beyond just straight up killing stuff, Mega Gardevoir has good special bulk with HP investment, and it's ability Trace allows it to switch into a Landorus after a sack, get the Intimidate off, set up Trick Room, and then sweep.

And finally, there is my last, and perhaps most important, Pokemon.

(lol I couldn't find a right-facing gif)

Porygon2

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Recover
- Trick Room
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

This is the second unconventional OU mon on my team, the first being Bronzong. I used Porygon2 for two reasons, really. For one, it's bulky as the sky is blue, and for two, it can hit pretty hard when the Download boost is right (for those who don't know, Download boosts special attack when the opponent's special defense is lower than its defense, and uselessly boosts attack when the opponent's defense is lower than its special defense). This is probably the most common Trick Room setter on my team, often setting it up multiple times during a game when Bronzong and Mega Gardevoir can really only expect to set it up once. Once Trick Room is up, Porygon2 easily can deal huge damage with its BoltBeam coverage. If not, it can easily wear down the opponent as it recovers off damage, widdling away the last of the Trick Room turns before setting up another Trick Room and either killing the opponent or switching out. Yes, this, along with Tornadus, holds the team together, and I am grateful for it doing so.

And that, America, is my team. Your precious groundhog who gives no Pux has delivered something which, while not great, he believes is pretty good. So please, rate my gosh darn team.

THREATS:

Scizor, Choice Band or Mega, is by far the most threatening Pokemon to my team, since my only real counter is Volcanion, which cannot switch in all the time due to hazards. Scizor can easily arrest a Mega Gardevoir sweep (the most common sweep on my team) with Bullet Punch, wall Breloom, and take on Porygon2. I've been thinking of replacing some move on Tornadus with Heat Wave to help deal with Scizor, or switching out Tornadus altogether for Rotom Wash for assistance, but Tornadus with Superpower is quite useful on my team. I would appreciate advice on how to deal with this.

Chansey is very annoying. Given that for all intents and purposes it walls 4 of my 6 Pokemon, and is really only straight up killed by Breloom, it can arrest almost any sweeps and cause trouble from there. My main way of dealing with it is getting a burn on it with Steam Eruption with Volcanion, or going into Tornadus and knocking off its Eviolite and then using Superpower - pretty much just wearing it down.

Weavile can straight up kill all my Trick Room setters save Porygon2. It outspeeds Tornadus, too. While it is completely harmless under Trick Room, most opponents have the sense to keep it in bay until Trick Room is over. At that point, I have to sack something. Oftentimes I have to outguess the opponent to kill Weavile - for example, using Superpower on it with Tornadus as it uses Pursuit.

I think supplying some replays to see how the team works (Trick Room is quite rare) would help the us rate your team.

I am not a fan of Volcanion without Hazardsupport. I also think that without Specs Volcanion does not deserve the name Balancebreaker. Imo it really needs the boost. Maybe Mystic Water or Life Orb over Lefties? With Mystic Water you can fake the Specsset and maybe get some unexpected KOs.
You can also try Explosion if you are at the last turn of Trick Room to set up the stage for the next Trick Room Setter.

Also from my past experience having Trick Room+Explosion/Memento/Healing Wish/Lunar Dance or Trick Room+slow Uturn/Volt is very effective. Only Bronzong qualifies and you have 3 Trick Room Setters. I think 2 are enough.

Also the reason Trick Room is viable is because there are many powerhouses who have good bulk and atk but low Speed. I think Breloom really doesnt qualify as a member of a Trick Room team.

Srry that I dont really have suggestions for you rn. Id really love some replays first to know if I am just talking bullshit.

I can't really scrounge replays right now, but to help people I've created a list of threats to my team. Hopefully from there people can make suggestions.

Hey.

I came across your team just 2h after actually playing against you/someone using your team, and here is something you should really be aware of :

Mega-Medicham just destroys your team. It really does. iirc, I had to pursuit trap the tornadus when it was mid hp, and everything was easier after that. Fake out also makes you lose one precious turn of trick room.
Here are some examples of how OP mega-medicham is against your team (those results were made with calcs, from a 252 EV atk + speed adamant Mega-Charmina)

HJK OHKO porygon 2 with eviolite
HJK OHKO your bronzong ev spread.
Fake out + bullet punch kills mega Gardevoir (99% if lowest roll on both, 100% if lowest roll on both + SR)
Zen headbutt obviously OHKO breloom
Fake out + bullet punch might kill tornadus after SR depending on the roll
HJK 40% chance to OHKO Volcanion, 100% after SR

Basically, he just needs to sack one or two pokemon by repeatingly going to medicham if trick room is up, fake out then switch out. Once trick room is out and medicham is in the field, hardly anything in this team can stop it..
Otherwise, pretty interesting team, I was actually happy to see a team like this instead of boring look-alike teams you usually find in the high ladder.

I won't really comment on anything else since I'm back to OU after a few years, and I'm still learning as well, so I probably won't be of any use.

Good luck though.

Edit :

-You could perhaps go with a support Bronzong lead :
A bulky Bronzong with light clay
-Stealth rock
-Reflect
-Light screen
-Explosion/Gyro ball (depends if you want to keep him alive and re-use it once LS/Reflect are down or not)

-You could also give Tri attack and toxic to porygon2, instead of the boltbeam combination since your team lacks status moves bar breloom with spore.

-You have no status absorber at all. I know you like breloom, so I suggest you to try this set :
Breloom 252 hp 252 att 4 def with toxic orb, Brave nature
-Focus punch
-Spore
-Bullet seed/stone edge (stone edge or rock tombs can take care of some of his counters, mainly talonflame under a sub)
-Substitute
Trust me, with a reflect/light screen on your team, breloom is enough bulky to take some big hits, and can even live a choice specs Draco meteor/psyshock from Latios even after SR.
Focus punch hits really strong : 97% chance to 2HKO Skarmory after SR and leftovers recovery is nothing to laugh at.
